I really like the new burnt orange metallic on the 2011 jk. it would be tough to touch up if you wheeled it alot, though.

It's part of the Jeep Mystique, some things just can't be explained! -
Flaring an OEM brake line?
alleydog replied to ComancheKid45's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Are you talking about the wire wrapped line? You can just unwind the wire and remove enough to re-flare it, But I would replace it. If PA is anything like Iowa. the rust never sleeps. I usually buy brake tubing in 25 ft. rolls. You can buy the fittings separate, and you may have to re-use some of the wierd ones. I got rid of the rear valve, and it seems to brake real even. -
Must have washed it in hot water

Couple things to check. Is the belt on, and tight?with the key off, not running, is there battery voltage on the red wire at the alternator?the red wire goes to a fusible link. if the link is melted, there will be no voltage to the alternator, and if it is charging, no power will go to the battery. next check the yellow wire, with the key on, should have battery voltage. If it has voltage at those 2 wires, I think it needs an alternator, it's time to take the alternator in to get it checked at the parts store.

I like my 1/2 ton ford dana 60 in the rear. I built a hp 30 with 79 f150 hubs and rotorsfor the front, but wish I would have used a complete 44 instead, as I still have the small tubes and ring gear now.

A bad speed sensor can cause a no upshift problem. As i understand, it's just a magnetic switch that cycles on and off as the output shaft turns. Its at the leftrear of the tranny, and can be tested with an ohm meter.

My local napa store only stocks 2 filters for a renix 4.0, a cheap one and a better one. Last time I needed to change my oil, they were out! ?? Guess thats why they went all out and stock 2 now

your truck is probably sagged an inch anyway, so raising it 2" is really only 1" over. I bet they'll work

Just wondering if alot of people use synthetic motor oil in their jeeps I drive a 91 YJ 2.5 to work most every day, it's only 2 miles each way. I have been running 5w30 havoline for the last 4 years, and the engine is real tired, lifters tick alot, and the oil really gets beat up bad. So last time I changed it , I put Havoline full synthetic in it, and after 300 miles, it runs better than it ever did, only ticks a little at times, and I actually use 5th gear again on the highway. Could the oil do this? It's all I changed. The only other explanation, is, "they always run better just before they blow!"

I would get the correct bolt, I think you need the smaller head on the bolt to avoid interference with the axle on a tight turn.

Unit bearing source brand do you recommend
alleydog replied to sinkrun's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I usuallly leave the nut on the axle untill the hub is out of the knuckle. That way it all stays together. The slidehammer sounds like a good idea, if you have the right flange adapter. I usually just knock them out with a 2 lb hammer. Then use a 1/2" impact to take the nut off. -
No you don't need a transfercase drop. That rear shaft is plenty long, so the angle is OK, I have the same set up on mine and it works fine.

can't beat free! thats a nice size, you'll have a lotta fun with it.

About the Check engine light, Maybe you don't have manifold vacuum to the map sensor, it's easy to get it on the wrong port. And what is the the code for the module problem, do you have a knock sensor hooked up?

We did the same thing on my friends 83 CJ 7, the quick and easy way to go. I ran pretty good with just the stock Astro van computer.

How's it going,? did you get the transfer case parts yet? Can't wait to see where this goes -
Mark here. Between my wife, kids and me, we have 6 jeeps. We're from Decorah Iowa

Sounds like the intake valve is leaking a little or the exhaust valve isnt opening. I would pull the valve cover off and see if you have a broken valve spring or if a pushrod is bent or something like that. Good luck, mark

We camped in pop ups and a tent in the back of my 41 ford and had a lot of fun. Now we have a big camper with slide out and a nice truck to pull it, and I think about the old days and really miss them.

Looks like a good start! Being from Iowa, I know all about the rust, but it can usually be fixxed just fine. Have fun, and keep it cheap!

Soa Pics and a qiuck question...
alleydog replied to JCole's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I used the regular size weld on oerches, and a stock spring. I definitely have some spring wrap and wheel hop. I'm thinking about a traction bar or making some longer perches. -
I hope it has an AMC engine in it.I Like em done right, chevy engines in chevys, Dodge engines in dodges, and chevy engines in fords!
