I am going with a non CAD one just to eliminate a stupid design.
-
So the MJ already has HP D30?? Didn't know that. So, just need to get a non cad XJ one up to 99, then.
-
Which years had the HP D30?

edit: maybe I misread you, and I merely restated in detail the very point you were making? :???: Yep. That's the one.

Cool. That's what used to be in it. 5 sp now. Guess it will be easy to find, then. So, are the newer ones a direct swap? Thanks.

If your driveshaft isn't moving, then the problem is most likely the xfer case, not the axle. I just replaced my xfer case and my axle is busted. But my driveshaft turns when in 4x4. I need an axle, but yours sounds like either the linkage isn't working or your transfer case has issues.

So, why do you use 91 octane? In case you are not aware, the higher the octane, the harder it is to ignite. That is why it is used in high performance engines with high compression, superchargers and the like. The higher octane keeps these engines from pre-ignition (pinging or knocking) when accellerating which is harmful to internal components. If your engine was not designed for high octane or if you are having a pinging problem, then you are throwing your money away using high octane gasoline. The lower octane burns easier and more thoroughly creating more horsepower and usually better mpg as well. I know that doesn't agree with popular belief, but that is because high compression/horsepower engines require higher octane. Therefore people think that the higher octane makes more power. In fact, the opposite is true.

My front axle is boogered up and I want to replace it. How common is the 3.55:1 ratio for a front axle (MJ or XJ)? How about in the newer ones with the one piece front axle? Are the newer ones a direct swap?
-
Having similar issue. I replaced my xfer case as it was an issues anyway. However, my axle is got issues. Someday soon, I will have time to look into it further.

While I was selling cars, I drove a couple of new JK's. I don't personally care for the size of them and never have grown to like the oversized plastic fenders, the Chryco V6 is powerful. It was fun to drive, but I still like TJ's better.
-
Don't care for the JK's either. Just don't like the looks as well. Just keeping the TJ. Maybe add another one to the fleet down the road.

Well, Crap! :fs1: Transfer case in and working. However, axle not. While still on the jack stands, I put it in 4x4 and let out the clutch, back wheels spinning, front driveshaft spinning, no weird noises coming from xfer case. But... Front wheels not moving. CAD was bypassed long ago. I just remembered that I recently welded it. I've already taken a shower for tonight, so will check that another day. Any other ideas?

What he said. The wife's 2.5 5sp only gets about 16-18 mpg daily driven. That is stock with 31's. She loves it, though. Been driving it for 16 years, now. But as said above, if you are at all worried about MPG, don't get a TJ. And if it is all stock, you'll be putting bigger tires on it, etc. and MPG will suffer even worse.

No worries, mates... Came out of a 4.0 5sp AX15 MJ. The old one was popping and then gave up the ghost. Would not engage anymore. Axles are fine. Chain is a problem, but don't know if it was the only one. Picked one up at a JY and worked on swapping it today. Went pretty smooth. I didn't finish, but 90% there. Just have to put the rear driveshaft, skid plate and exhaust hangers back on. Then drain it and put new fluid in it. Will do that later in the week. I know about the differences, so made sure I had one from a good source. Know a little about these trucks after all. :brows: My statement about hoping all went well, was because I just was hoping for no broken bolts, or glued together components that resisted coming apart. :fs1: Should have it back up and running this week sometime depending on OT.

Finally, have time to replace the failed transfer case today. Hopefully all will go well...

Yup, looks overloaded to me. :dunno:

Yes, mine was the manual. Liked the shifter combo a bunch. Only available of the FX4 Level II. Very Rare indeed. -

the 15X7 is why I pulled them off of my Ranger when I had it and installed some Eagle 15X8's. A peak of my old Ranger. Don't have it anymore: -

Doh! Never read past the yay, nay. I had a ranger fx4 so when I saw them, knew what they were. -
Gamblers off a TJ 15X8 31X10.5's. Stock Suspension.

I like them. I'm guessing Alcoa from a Ranger FX4? -
Agree. Sounds like you are carrying too much. If you already added capacity and are still looking for more, you need more truck.
