  1. Wow. I've sold two of 'em. I'm in the market too- I'd be PMing some peeps on this thread if anyone was closer.

    I HATE ICE!!

So beater after the hospital didya drive home? :D My knee has osteoarthritis and osteoperosis because I was in a hip to toe cast for 6 months after being T-boned on a motorcycle. Crushed my tib/fib and I still have enough problems 10 years later I have to have at least 1 automatic vehicle to drive on the really bad days. The good news is I bought a Jeep instead of a motorcycle as my toy! Good luck!
  3. Yeah my wife just said I could buy a Comanche even though we have 3 vehicles and none of them are hers. She's a keeper! However, having the wedding on her birthday was a bad, bad idea. Just for the record. Congrats on your anniversary... but the real question is how long have you had the truck?
  4. I traded a 74 Comet GT with 8" slicks and a scoop for a freaking Spyder that blew up 1/2 way back to college the same day I traded. Then the girl who was the reason I traded it in the first place (gas mileage to her college) broke up with me. Sigh. I always say I'll never own anything but a 4wd, but I always think to myself "unless I find a Comet GT".
  5. How about if I say it a bunch you keep 75ยข and I get a quarter? Who's funding this venture anyway?
  6. hullo offroading bye bye money

    B I G Money

These are my favorite kind of people. Seriously if all those people back in the day hadn't bought MJs only because they look good there wouldn't be a straight fender or bed out there in the world. It's the posers of today who create good straight used Jeeps and parts for the future.
  9. What are you talking about? I took my 2.8 from Indianapolis to North Padre Island in Texas and back. Well sure it was all flat and by the time we got back to Indiana it was spitting and dying a nasty death, but it made it and that's how I got my 3.4L... :D

    Should I ?

looks like it might need tires. :) parting? building? restoration? what's your plan?
  11. I stopped voting because it gets me out of jury duty in Indiana. It's not even that I mind jury duty, it's just a messed up system that only registered voters are in the jury pool there.
  12. They all look good. Boy I miss my comanches.
  13. Actually there are companies that do nothing but provide vehicles for the movies. They would have provided a running MJ and a carcass to burn- the carcass only needs to be close, thus the XJ probably being an easier find, previously wrecked etc. I think the company I stumbled across specialized in "military looking" vehicles and I remember thinking about the weird psuedo dictator's Jeep that isn't quite right in shows like the A-Team and realizing they all came from the same source- "Need something without an engine to flip off an exploding ramp? No problem!"

    Feeler - 88 MJ F/S

Well I sold it. Better than dragging it all the way across the country just to fail emissions (and make it worthless in the land of rust free). The Atlas II is ready to go in my TJ and the 8" lift I'd shoehorned on is sitting in my buddy's garage b/c no one in Indiana seems to want the darn thing. Sigh. So I'm no longer an MJ owner at the moment, although someday I hope to be able to go in for the truggy thing or the Cheromanche route... ah well. Bought a little something to console myself in my MJ-less days though: Hopefully it will get me by until I can find space for another MJ. :D Cheers to all!

    Feeler - 88 MJ F/S

Well the plan is to have seats and it will probably have tires now that you mention it. But still, any thoughts on price? I'm thinking $1100 with some moderatly treaded 33s?

    Feeler - 88 MJ F/S

Yeah, that was awhile ago. Just the only photos I had that don't show stuff that's not on the truck anymore.
  17. You can persuade the axle to go beyond what gravity will do without hurting anything.
  18. Hyperbole my good man... but I have passed up a few purchases because they came with Rusty's, and I have given away Rusty's used parts because I couldn't in good conscience charge money for crap.
  19. If I don't sell it to the guy who's finishing it, my 88 MJ is going up in Indiana. I just wanted to get a feel for price: 2.5 L 133K 4x4 4.10s 30 and 35 Locked front and Rear 5.5" RE ZJ coils Spring over rear w/XJ axle and relocated perches new clutch new pinion seals new rear main there's rust over the rear fenders and I welded in metal to make a floor. currently there are no seats. assume the tires will be these bald arse stock ones When it was stock: Floor: Engine: I'll have more pics when it's done, but I'm kind of trying to get a feeler on price here. Any thoughts welcome.
  20. Front truggy it
  21. Back in the day I had rusty's springs and one full compression on the driver's side and it was sagging 1-1.5". Replaced with RE springs and they were totally different (at the time ... 1997-ish) Rusty's sucks @$$... I'd rather pay double for the same springs just not to give that Jackweed any more of my money.
  22. I think back to the original question- unscrew the bump stops with a pipe wrench put in between the coils, when it drops out inside the spring then you can either stretch one of the coil spaces enough to get it through or drop it out the bottom by removing the spring retainer. I usually just drop the axle to widen all the spring gaps and push one of the mid coils wider to get it through (having forgot on occasion to put 'em in the spring before installing)
  23. there are Tall TJ seats and short TJ seats... the tall ones are early, and the short ones are later. When I sit in a 2006 I feel like my butt is on the ground, this also gives rise to the "hockey puck" mod popular with late TJs...
  24. I'd say you're looking at the cost of a donor XJ that has the same setup as the MJ and the cost of driveshaft shortening for the rear. If you're looking at a non-quite-exactly-matching XJ (say a 2.8L v6's ax5 and tcase going on a 2.5L MJ) the cost of a clutch kit, miscellaneous pieces (say the throwout bearing in kit isn't right on install) and the time to take out the tranny and put it back for tweaking. That's about as close to an estimate as I think you can get as it depends on your ability to get the donor vehicle (or parts piecemeal). While you're in there, putting a new clutch and checking your freeze plugs and even a rear main are all good ideas. As long as you've got the tranny out...
  25. yeah, some of us were born BEFORE the MJ's debut... and speak oh-so-much, but oh-so-unknowledgbly :D ...but I'll second the greatest truck sentiment!
