  1. Here's one I saw today... I was daydreaming about axles and looking at Unimog portals... wouldn't you know the big version is missing. Looked at all the pages and even poked around the website directories. I'll blow it up but it won't look so great: Anyone seen any other pics of this rig?
  2. Just to weigh in, I'm 6'0" at 315lbs ... do I win?
  3. And the smartest XJ guys just go to the full comanche? :D
  4. The Skyjacker XJ kit I have is designed to work with the stock XJ mounts as an attachment point. I'll update you sometime in the next month as to how it fit on my MJ... :jump:
  5. Careful - some long arm kits fit over the Lower Control arm mount at the frame. If you look at an XJ this mount is just a 3 sided box attached to the frame. On some* MJs the box has thick metal down one side and down the back in a short and long bracing slope... which means all long arm kits might not "just fit" like the XJ. *I'm no expert - one of those wiser want to chime in on whether it is "some MJs" or "all MJs" with the bracing? or some answer a lot more pedantic?
  6. Actually that's what I did - I beat the inner pinch seam flat. It still holds and no tire cutting. Heh-heh I suppose that's not quite what you meant..
  7. I wish somebody'd told me that. I had great luck on my XJ with Rubicon Express 5.5" ZJ springs ... the ZJ front end is heavier so you get more lift. I ran that and lower control arms that had a bit of an elbow on the front end. As for the back I don't know... I'm new to the back end of the 'manche. And you know if you buy Rusty's kit you'll wind up piecing together a bunch of different stuff anyway as things don't fit and then others bend or break the first time out... Good Luck!
  8. I wish I had before pics. The whole interior was covered with thick black grease/dirt that was just ground into everything. The white stuff is leftover OxyClean paste. Man it was disgusting!
  9. Yeah the gas tank looks like straps coming from the driver-side rail and under the plastic cover that then make an upside down L shape. Through the foot of the L is a long bolt with what looks like a J-hook on the other end. The J hangs in slots in the bed, and there is a nut that tensions the straps. My thought was to use bolt cutters on these... the top should drop out and the bolt post and nut should come off the straps. Then I can either replace the J hook or possibly fab something so the tank doesn't tie into the bed anymore. Any skid plating options for the MJ gas tank?
  10. Question 1: My muffler goes from the driver side of the 2.5L and crosses directly under the very rear of the oil pan. Then it goes all the way down the passenger side and back over the rear axle. It's first in line to get crushed at the oil pan, but I'm not sure where else to put it because of the fuel and brake line cluster and the gas tank. Where are your mufflers routed? Any better ideas? Question 2: I started to remove the bed and one of the three bolts in the emergency brake cable Y bracket came out then the second one broke. I threw up my hands ... I'm trying to decide: pull the bed to work on the rear shackle hangers and rusted bumper or leave it in place. Is it worth the effort? Any thoughts welcome. I would like to put the bed back when I'm done - partly because I don't have the facilities to build a truggy.
  11. Here's mine in progress: And with some silicone and Herc: You can see where the pass floor was done on the outside of the frame rail. Mine actually started worse than Bounty Hunter's but in almost exactly the same pattern. If it wasn't for the extra metal and the 4wd lever I would have sworn that was my truck. :)[/img]
