Kix "Atomic Bombs' is what I want to play to blast people. Anyways. The Head Unit that will go into my Avalanche has the ability to store CD tracks. Well, I think it does. Not sure on how many tracks.
-
CDs came out in the 80's. Yeah, I have a few CDs from local or regional bands of Central PA. I do have some cassettes from back them. Played 'Friends of Mr. Cairo' some weeks back. Then bought the CD. I could see retaining the cassette and get a USB port attached.

I like to run a bit stiffer shock on the front and then 'tune' the rear shocks. The ability to tune the rear helped with the KYB MonoMax shocks. I used this on a MB 240D. Bilstein Sports in the front and Bilstein Comforts in the rear. Sort of counters the heavy engine, yet leaves the rear a bit softer.
-
I had Rancho 200s they were too soft. The Ranchos have different levels. I do have some of the 9000RS Adjustable on my XJ. I like them at mid adjustment. I had some white box ones from Iron Rock Outfitters on the front. Soft too.
-
I had the KYB silver ones made in Japan on the front of an XJ. I like them. I use the KYB monomax on my 2" lifted XJ. I like them, but they are firm. Not quite as firm as the Bilstien 1500s.

OK, projects. First is, I'm finishing the upstairs above my garage. Finishing and painting the drywall from like 2006. Also, linoleum (plastic sheet) flooring. Then finishing my mobile home in WV. OBS on the exterior. New windows. And finished(Almost) a metal roof. Took me 3 weeks on that. And well an ongoing 'project' of a 2010 Chevy Avalanche LTZ. Rebuilt the motor. Redid the brakes, and interior. Two bad smokers. The Ozium and several cans of it didn't help. Well, the automatic trans blew in WV a few weeks back. Waiting to get it back to IN. Yeah, the fun of a 6L80E rebuild. $$$.

I've had two '98s and an '00. I think the best year is the '99. Some improvements over the '98. The '00 and 01 do have some issues with the wiring. Still, as has been said by Pete, the best condition one.

Saw a Mint colored one south of Moorefield WV. So, north of Seneca Rock. Was in with a lot of other vehicles.

I understand that. It seems everybody is using Face Book. FB denied my account. Used to be you could at least look at the FB page.

Still, cool that you fabbed it up. I will say that taking off the solid bumper on the BDF Hidden winch setup, is fairly easy. So, switching in and out to a tube bumper would not be a big deal. I can see around town or such, the sheet metal bumper might keep some from messing with the winch.
-
Boostwerks makes one. "This does not work with OEM sway bar mounts' 'Not sure what to think about that. I need to go look at my truck and see what the issue is with fitment.' Other have swaybar extensions for their setup. Also for OTK setups. I think a knock on the Alpine, is that it hangs a bit lower. Also, I'd contact Bad Dad Fab. See if he thinks his setup would help pull out your frame rails. I looked for my Boostwerk setup. I'm in a rearrangement mode.
-
Also, might check out Alpine. I think they are in CA. I know they make a track bar brace. They might make a hidden winch setup.
-
The Bad Dad Fab has a tube bumper, that looks to have access to the cable. Also, with winglet outer bumpettes. I'll be using a synthetic line. As to minigate any kinking.
-
I agree with you. The thicker metal should be better. Maybe welded vs bolted on. 'Which do you prefer and why?' I have the Bad Dad installed. I haven't installed the Boostwerks. I am not sure if my version of the Boostwerks has the sector shaft bearing. The Bad Dad is a bit of a pain to install. It is a 'U" shaped piece. So, that slides on the outer frame. I did have frame rail reinforcements. I had to grind on them a bit. I also have Iron Rocks steering box brace. I like it. Only issue was that my frame was bent a bit. I could not or didn't grind the slots so the sector shaft bearing would fit.

I have the Bad Dad Fab and the Boostwerks. They too, you have to cut out the front plate.

What shocks?

'I also had an alignment done, the guys said my tie rods weren’t tight enough. they could be right. I didn’t have a torque ratchet to check. Still haven’t. Need to go get my ratchet.' Are they saying the taper fit is loose? That Jeep Guy brings up if the frame is cracked. That happened to me. Mine was the opposite of Pete M's. Mine was fine. I took it in for alignment. Then DW. That was one the one with a cracked frame. I had one with a 'slotted' trackbar bushing. It would change lanes, but no DW. I have driven with no trackbar attached. Yeah real fun. On my '00 XJ, I didn't get one of the ball joints tightened correctly. or the contact with a curb really loosened it up. Also, the sway bar can affect things. I didn't have the rubber bushing in some ZJ sawybar links. The front end would float and veer right. I changed to stock XJs with ploy bushing. Drove good after that. Also, what lift and are the upper and lower control arm bushings good?
-
I have Wild Peaks on one of my XJs. Really like them. As the OP noted, OMG little to no road noise. I've run them about 7 years now. I do have a set for my Avalanche. The H2s. Had the rims redone. Waiting. Suppose to be this week. Only know on Wild Peaks is mud traction. They did OK for me, when wheeling in mud though. As for tire pressure, as said before a lot of variables. Also, modern tires can take a lot more pressure. I run mine about 36 psi. Especially when doing highway miles. Maybe a bit more. If snow, then I'd air down to say 32 psi. I can't say much about MPG. I don't think I took a penalty. I am still tracking MPG on the Avalanche. I do have to runs with 20.5 and 21 MPG. Most would be happy with 18 MPG in an Avy. I did get 18.5 and 19.5 in my last long distance runs. I was down on tire PSI at 30 PSI compared to 36 PSI. Having issues with fillups on gas. Some pumps kick off with 2.5 gallons to go. I haven't tested the Wild Peaks in snow yet. Seems weather has not cooperate on that.

Weak Brakes - Need Help Diagnosing
75sv1 replied to dotnetrob's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I was going to post something similar. I used mid grade NAPA pads on my Avalanche. They really didn't bite or brake well. I am having rims redone. $$$. So, it was suggested to use Ceramic pads. I went with Aldios pads. Supplier to Toyota. I like how they brake. From post on the net, Centric and Wagner Thermo quiets get good reviews. I do have the NAPA/Wagner or is it Raybestos Reactive pads and rotors. They are OK. I plan to change the fronts to Black Magic pads at some point. -
I've stacked washer too. I also found some castle nuts of different heights.
-
For some reason, I want to do a 97+ swap. Yet, I want to keep the front grill or header panel. I need to cut out some areas to have the headlight adjusters fit.

another coil spring question

I also run an adjustable shock on the rear. A bit firmer shock on the front. KYB Max(??). I run Rancho 9000s on the rear. This is on an XJ with 2" lift. My rear shocks are on the middle adjustment. Really, balanced out the vehicle. I was running some white box shocks. Probably a Rancho 200. The rear sort of floated. I could see that with varying loads, an adjustable shock would be good for your vehicle. -
Weak Brakes - Need Help Diagnosing

My take. The previous job looks hacked. The routing of the rear lines, is suspect. Makes about anything less, questionable. Yeah, I'd put new calipers on the front. I went through this with my Chevy Avalanche last year. Looked like recent parts. I found chunks in the Master Cylinder. I botched a new one. I didn't bench bleed it right. I also had a '78 Civic. Had the brakes replaced a few times. The rotor on those were pressed between the bearing. They didn't bleed the front calipers. When I did, there was a rust blob that came out. Yeah, new calipers. -
another coil spring question

Old Man Emmu (OME) does make a 1.75 spring. I'd try a KYB shock from a TJ first. I used a 2" spring from Iron Rock Offroad. I am not sure where they source their front springs. The rears are Rough Countries. Except the 3.5". -
Rough country steering stabilizer.
75sv1 replied to 90comanchegirl's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For stock shocks, I like the KYB Silver ones (Japan). For a steering stabilizer, Old Man EMU or Tenneco. The Tenneco one I used survived a long bought of Death Wobble, and was still good. I have used some Rough Country parts, although not shocks. Of late they have been upgrading the quality of their parts. Still, there are better products out there. Also, add Doetsch-Tech to the list of shocks. I'd second the Core 4x4 control arms. Good quality, good price. As for front springs it depends if stock or lifted. Old Man EMU, Metal Cloak.
