new fuel pump makes a whistling noise?
eaglescout526 replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
At least you’re not like me where I have to replace the front gasket on my XJs AX5 when I could’ve done that when I had it all apart had I known it was leaking there. -

750’s or 850’s would be just fine. I forgot to mention that Sears lamps will be good too.- 57 replies

You lucky SOB to have a factory hidden winch.

Added the flash to pass. This one is weird to a terminal that has constant power so I can flash the high beams whenever.

Flash to pass function added. This one is tied to the accessory circuit so it will only flash when the Jeep is on. -

1984 CJ running rough
eaglescout526 replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Actually.... yall aint gonna believe this. After looking at it for about half an hour listening to it run and figuring out sensors and examining things like the spark plug wire which he will have to get a new one...it was the injector. Same cylinder he was having issues with. So I swapped 6 for 1 and 1 to 6 and the problem literally went away. Now 5 of the injectors are still original Siemens Chrysler injectors except 6. I think 6 is on a crutch by being in the front with my thinking being that pressure isnt enough in the back of the rail to feed that injector and by having an OEM one in the back has solved his rough running condition. How long with it last? I do not know but I hope its a permanent fix. Thanks for all the help and understanding these Mopar kits. Luckily the owner had the instructions. -
Lol, no Pete, hes pinging JMO to get the dealer who sold that MJ originally

I want to add to this. I am about to add the switch to both my Jeeps and I went hunting for the TSB. The TSB issues that for the early 89 years, the flash to pass only triggers the low beam instead of the high. The TSB tells you to switch the green wire and tan wire in the connector around and it will fix the problem which it does. It is exactly what I ran into on my MJ and now the high beams come on instead of the low beams when using the flash to pass feature. If anyone does add the switch to their pre-Chrysler XJ or MJ, the terminal space is open in the connector, 56 series female terminal and whatever you want to plug into the fuse block. And switch the two wires around to get it to work properly. I mean why not add this switch? Same exact switch other than moving two wires and adding a power wire to the circuit.

Wow its been a few months. Found a couple of the flash to pass switches, I will be adding them to Little Red here and Chunk. I added the wire to the plug as it was vacant and didnt think it was there in the first place. Plugged the new switch in and it does the flashing. Neat! Dumb feature, sure! But another one to add to make them both a little more modern.

This is what I’m hoping for. Will a multimeter help me out for diagnosing his issues? -

This was something I did bring up to the owner, he did rebuttal with it should affect the engine and not just cyl 6 when unplugging the injector. But again, HO's are new-ish to me, I cant imagine the theory of operation being drastically different from Renix 4.0. Owner could be right about that, You and I could be right about the MAP. I will see this CJ in person this weekend. I did leave out a detail, the engine was swapped with another engine that has this injection set up. Something about the original block being cracked and the head was swapped to the doner engine. Let me ask ya Eagle, since this is HO, how could we check to see if it has any codes? Scan tool or would I be able to rig up some sort of light? -
I know, not MJ but I need some help and schooling. Guy local is having some issues with his CJ. It has a Mopar injection kit with the 4.2Litre. I believe these to basically be HO injection systems and not Renix. I know a little bit about HOs, but not enough and I want to help this guy out as theres not many mechanics in the state to get this system running right. So when cold, it runs rough, almost undrivable and owner feels like he is hurting it. Gets warm, little more drivable but still an issue. He had an issue with cylinder 6 injector and had it replaced. Was a little better. Then replaced thermostat, cap, rotor, not sure if the plugs were but he said a basic tune up was performed and it helped run better but not to where the issue has gone away. What sensor could be doing this? 91-92 owners have any thought? Any thoughts or ideas? Maybe any tools or knowledge and literature will help me greatly. @89 MJ, 4.2Litres do not have adjustable valves correct?

Aftermarket fuel pump
eaglescout526 replied to 70barracuda's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I never looked at the new units closely. But after getting really intimate with my XJ's unit, I am seeing allllll sorts of stuff thats wrong, more annoying now that I see them but doesnt mess with functionality. The ground wire for the unit at the sender is usually held in place with a nut. There should be a retainer to hold the top of the pump but I guess that hose is pulling double duty right there. And the fact the pump doesnt sit in a cup like factory but I would guess theres a bushing for the pump to sit in? I dont mean to rip into a sending unit that we asked for for a few years but damn, I hope thats just a picture of the test product and not final. -

What’s insane is it still very much has flex to it. It’s not dry or anything. Just flatter than round and cracking and can be ripped. -

Speedometer not functioning
eaglescout526 replied to ddlanes21's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Question is, does spinning the cable by hand spin either the gear or the speedometer? If not, cable is broke. If yes, you have a bind of the gear isnt making contact with the spline to be driven.
