  1. Those are spring clamps that are probably original to the truck. Use a pair of channel locks and squeeze the two tabs together to release the tension to slide the clamp off.

  4. Oh damn, I will have to make sure my girlfriend doesnt see this collection. Lol. Fixed it for ya! :)
  5. Oh goodness lol! You can’t forget that to top your antenna. Classic.
  6. We’re all forgetting the most important thing here. The fact that if you’re gonna go 80’s, you’ll need to ditch all but two formats, vinyl and cassette.
  7. Lol a chrome factory brush guard. That would be neat! But a little over the top. Kinda like a be like a modern day for or dodge with a chrome guard.
  8. Always Making Changes.
  9. Ya need the running boards! Lol.
  10. I had a feeling. 87 is that weird cut off year for what they started doing in 86.
  11. Wasn’t 86 the only model year with the 4x4 on the rear end of the bed or was that the later years?(I know I can look at the catalog but work is busy)
  12. It’s easy and hard to tell. 86-87 were the only years for the 2.5Litre nameplate. 4.0Litre was 87-90. The location of the 4x4 badge is also a thing. Grill is an obvious one for most as are the Marchals as sometime in 87 AMC switched to the ROLs due to Marchals going out of business. Another plausible way to tell is the rear bumper doing away with the license plate light bezels for the later years. Otherwise all are externally identical. My 88 has an 84-86 only 21 slot grill.
  13. Lol just the obsession, it does help to look at era correct aftermarket stuff but also looking at the OEM accessories in the Comanche outfitters guide gives ideas which knowing you, probably already gave a lot of once overs lol.
  14. I agree with the rear window louvre. That definitely gives it the 80’s look. Damn that topper kills it for me, can’t argue with free on that. I’d recommend looking at other cars from the 80’s to get a good feel as to what you want to get at for the looks.

  16. If I had two MJs with one in the locations as the OP and one in the typical factory spot, I would then have an answer for you. Buttt that being said the tow mirrors are bigger and are further out than the factory mirrors so I am sure the difference is minimal.
  17. Could’ve been one of those dealer install sets where the customer asked for the mirrors to be where the stock ones are.

  19. There’s still some left. I think they are going fast.
  20. I think charcoal was an easy sell neutral color for the 80’s as those colorful interiors of garnet, honey, light blue, Baltic blue and those other vibrant colors were going away. Hell you can see with today’s interiors that black, tan or a sand like color and various greys are vastly popular. I’d love to see a modern day garnet or cordovan interior but the closest we will get is the Ram Rebels with their red accents.
  21. Some crazy shop here is going to be dropping a helephant into a JT.
  22. Heh. Welcome to hell for that. For whatever reason AMC and their infinite wisdom had a hose made specially for that. One end is a small hole and the other is large and that’s a special hose too. Replacing it is gonna be very tricky unless you can find the right hose and modify one of the ends for the larger diameter.
  23. No problem. Good luck with the swap!
  24. It will directly swap. You will need to remove the tach from the housing and adjust it to match the actual RPMs of the engine. It’s best to have nickintimes REM to get the tach reading to the right pulses. I want to say moving the potentiometer to the right is for 4 cyl but it still needs to be adjusted as I thought moving it all the way to one direction would read right but it read like a 3 cyl. So it’ll take a few trial and errors to get it to read right.
