My XJ came from the factory with a carb. I’m going to swap it tot TBI in the future.
And yes a film of what’s going on might help us see what it is exactly doing.
The breakaway rocker arms that probably prevented catastrophic engine failure would. Bad fuel pump. Could be damn near anything that would keep a gas engine from running. Maybe a bad glow plug relay. Honestly who knows.
O2 can be a cause of erratic idle. But we recommended cleaning your ground before we diagnose sensors and such first. Mine didn’t really turn off at 2k but it definitely struggled to get fuel to the engine when the sock got sucked up by the pump.
If you’re going to do this, pull an HO cluster or something to practice on just to get a feel. I pulled speedo needles off with my hand just fine with no issues. But these gauges are smaller than a speedo but same concept.
84-86 won’t work as it uses threaded prongs and that slid into some clips in the back of the cluster. Later style uses screws.
I might have to do a FYI on Renix clusters.
That’s why I asked. So if you have a red face gauge then you’ll need a fuel gauge that screws into the cluster. And those blue ones are rare as the full blue cluster was used in 87 to early 88 only before the new style showed up.
Someone already did this actually. They put the waggy front end on their MJ and put wood grain on it too. Some other members have swapped to the waggy front end in here as well. So it’s a fun idea to deck out and MJ to a “limited” trim.
