x3 here. So here's a good question to add to that. I'm going to re-install my liner, but I want to paint/bedline it (not walmart crap hehe) but wanted to get some suggesstions on what to use? More to preserve that take any abuse, I happen to like the plastic bedliner.
-
:wall: lol! Its almost creepy..
-
^ he nailed it. Just use some of your old line to practice double flaring and youll get the hang of it. But good idea to replace all of them, mine were all rusty and ready to explode at the next panic brake..

Backroads MJ 86 4x4 longbed 4 banger
Backroads replied to Backroads's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I only really thought I wasnt gonna like the longbed before I actually saw it hehe. I wanted a short bed to not have such a long wheelbase for a little wheeling I will do in it, but as it turns out I'm a longbed for life kinda guy now! anyways..current update on my project...been getting a lot done, just not takin any pics :dunno: Got my whole front end snugged up, ZJ steering box, draglink and tie rod. New bushings in my sway bar, fixed all my current leaks and its at the shop getting inspected as I write this! I'm stoked -

is that cupholder part of the console orginal or an add on? -
Black and tan is perfect! I love the newer xjs that have the black and tan mix interior.

So how does this work? Isnt some of that reading anthracite property? (I have a permit btw) Are these other trails open all the time, or is this just something that is permitted when its a group ride organized like that?
-
^x2, are you actually cutting that out so that you see the U into the unibody frame rail, or just cutting off the edges and welding the new piece in over top of that?
-
the headlight of course!
-
wow! Looks nice!
-
or if its anything like mine, replace the crusty old rotten isolator with a nice new one!
-
was putting the final touches on my alignment after replaceing the steering box and draglink.tie rod (with zj v8 components) and was backing up to straighten the wheel, when my PS literally BLEW up causing this... Image Not Found luckily it turned out its just a hose and not the steering box itself  But word of advice, if you see a shotty connection on the PRESSURE hose....buy a new one. on a side note, drivers side of the engine bay is looking a little more spiffy

is there any common reason why ....

2.5 questions...update 5/20/2010
Backroads replied to manimal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Is your 2.5 a TBI? I'm wondering how that would work, or if its even possible to turbo a TBI style engine. If its possible, I'd be pretty interested to give that a go! -
pretty sure I've got the answer. ANY draglink will work, MJ, XJ, ZJ. up til '91 + you would need to swap the whole assembly including the smaller TRE at the pitman arm as well as the adjuster tube because of the larger diameter rod.
-
damned bastard child 86!!! Well either way it needs the entire draglink replaced, both TREs are shot at the axle side as well as the pitman arm side. So I guess as long as I get 2 compatible pieces they should work. So well see what I come up with and I will report back for other 86 owners!
-
hehe fair enough. I guess that was my main issue is whether the knuckles of the axles were different, thus requiring a different size joint on the TRE. Other than that, everything else 'appears' to be the same.
-
which part was thicker? The actual rod end with the joint? or just the bar itself was thicker?
-
I discovered that my drag link on the knuckle end is sloppy as all get out. Since its all a large one piece tie rod end (basically) Its not really a serviceable part, and just swaps out. Luckily I live nearby to quadratec, although I'm not a q-tec fan...and they carry draglinks. They specify 2 different ones, 84-90 and 91-01 (i believe those were the right years but I might be off) they only list them as cherokee part, but I know they interchange. So on my 0 dollar budget I might go to the JY and pop one off for now, SO can anyone tell me what the differences actually are? For obvious reasons I would prefer to pull a new-er-ish one. Just don't wanna waste my time pulling a late model if its different somehow. If all else fails I might just buy a new replacement!

skip the chinese crap, get some MOOG tie rod ends. Good high quality parts IMO.

Front axle swap, brake questions
Backroads replied to Backroads's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks Eagle. Solid information, and just for the record I'd buy a book that has info like that in it! So basically as long as I keep the brakes rotors etc the same for that year axle, and not the original year of the vehicle, its all good? Thats pretty much what I was assuming anyways. I wasn't really planning to swap my brakes over or anything. The axle I have to swap in in complete with newer hubs rotors and pads on it already. So I guess the major thing is just to note the year of the axle and go by that for buying axle components in the future i.e. My MJ is an 86, if it has a 94 axle under it, just get parts for a 94 cherokee. -
Front axle swap, brake questions
Backroads replied to Backroads's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Pretty much what I had planned. What year rotors are good/bad? -
Decided to take out my battery box and make it so it will actually HOLD the battery in place, and ended up welding in a big patch where it was rotted out beneath the battery!
