    KOH

I had KOH on the garage TV for most of the past two weekends while I worked away ... and didn't get much done. I raced in the Canadian Off Road Racing Series (C.O.R.R.A.) series 50 years ago. Apart from what we learned at the races and from other guys we knew, our main information source was the monthly off road magazines. Any videos we got to see back then were rare. The Baja 500 wasn't that old that time and some of our members actually got into some the races. Our cars were primitive but we knew things would evolve. We saw something new at the start of every season. I'm not shocked by what I see today. I like to think that if they had a geezer class I could resurrect our team.
  5. I ran into that too. It was at a shop that specialized in motorcycle parts, engine parts, etc. They did great mostly custom work and weren't shy about their prices. Small shops are your best bet if you can find them. I also had some Jeep MOAB wheels done recently for my LJ. I took them to a large outfit that mostly did production parts for local industries. They seemed to specialize in BBQs. Wheels, car parts, etc. was a bit of a sideline or filler for them. For $125 (CDN) they did a great job. Their prices were even lower if you provided the powder.
  6. I'm sure you'll find a spot and when you do ... I smell a volume discount! Good luck.
  7. The company I used was Carcone's Auto Recycling and Wheel Refinishing. Unfortunately they are located in Aurora, Ontario (45 minutes north of Toronto) which may not be practical for you. I wouldn't be surprised if they ship to the US but it might put the price out of range for you. I paid $125 CDN (about $95 USD) per wheel which is line with powder coating costs. It took about a week. Funny thing was that they almost insisted that they install and balance the tires (included in the cost). They all but told me they don't trust average wheel and tire shops to not mess up their work! They did a great job and I have no complaints at all. Wheel Refinishing Services | Carcone's Auto Recycling The Step-by-Step Wheel Refinishing Process - Video - Carcone's Auto Recycling Love the Turbines btw. I have them on my MJ & XJ. I have 2 spares and am looking for a 3rd which will all go on the tear drop trailer I am building.
  8. Mine were so badly pitted that polishing wasn't going to turn out well. I took them to a wheel restoration that turned the originally polished surfaces down in a wheel lathe. The 4 steps were that they media blasted them, painted them silver, turned the polished surfaces down in a lathe and then clear coated them. I've had sets done for my MJ & XJ and they've held up well (2 - 3 yrs.).

Sorry, I just saw this.    That looks great!   I had the impression that the hitch hung a bit lower.   I appreciate your offer but I've almost finished fabricating my hitch.   I removed a Westin-Fey bumper which had what I think are the right bumper mounts for it.  I've only seen pics of them and of the OEM mounts for my short bed.   I modified what I have (basically boxed them) to add some strength and mounted an OEM bumper to them.   I made 1/4" plate brackets to attach a cross tube that bolts to the 2" receiver that I previously had on the W-F bumper.

When looking into the W-F bumper on e-trailer.com I was surprised to see that it is rated for 3,500 lbs.   If I didn't want to convert to an OEM bumper I would have been fine with the W-F bumper.

Sorry, no pics yet but I'm confident it will tow my tear drop (1,500 lbs.) and expedition trailer (about 800 lbs.) with no problems.

The only pics I have so far are of what I started with and of my "bumper straightening machine" lol.   Lots of sand blasting, refinishing and painting to do yet, but at least it's straight!

  10. @krustyballer16 - I'm interested in a pair of hitch plates. Are or will they be available and would you be able to ship them to Canada - Toronto area? Thanks.
  11. It's pretty rare for me to see another MJ here in our town of about 90,000, XJ's too for that matter. A guy few blocks over had one (now sold). The only time I saw it on the road was when we pulled up to an intersection at the same time. I stopped at a store a few years ago when I came out a guy who was passing through town parked next to me. We talked for a bit and a few months later we parked next to each other at a car show. In the time in between someone had backed into him and destroyed his original bumper. I was at an auto flea market last week and spotted an Eliminator in the parking lot on the way out. It looked like it had had a hard life but it was complete and as straight as could be. So basically I'm lucky to have a random sighting every few years. Here's the guy who parked next to me - I'm on the right ...

  13. This guy replaced his XJ centre console with a freezer. Funny thing is that he removed the XJ hand brake and replaced it with a foot operate brake from a MJ. He also has a fridge in the cargo area.
  14. Up here they'd hire a consultant to advise on how to remove the frying pan without burning their hand ... and then hire someone to actually do it.

  16. I run Canadian Tire Motomaster Total Terrain A/T3 tires (235/75/15) on my MJ and they've been great. They also go on sale about once a month. They're a discount version of the Cooper Discoverer ATP tires. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a similar version for the US market. jeep mountain bikes

I see Jeep bikes pop up fairly often on Kijiji / Ontario. Here's one that's actually a Comanche bike. It's been for sale for the last 6 months or so. It stated at $450 CDN (about $340 US) but it's down to $250 now. It looks like a good one but it's still a bit steep. I rode a similar one a few years ago. They're not great bikes ... and I'm not all that fussy. Jeep Comanche Sport mountain bicycle. | Mountain | City of Toronto | Kijiji

    Overland MJs

I'm 5'8" so I can sleep front to back comfortably in my XJ and side to side sort of comfortably in my MJ!

I've been looking at those too. I'm also all DeWalt so it's the only one I'd consider ... if I can get over the price!

I have a 8" 2 speed oscillating 12V fan with a clamp on it. The clamp will come off when I find a (semi) permanent spot for it in my XJ. The one I really like though is a small (4" ?) 4 speed hand held fan. It charges via a USB port either directly to it or a base stand. It's silent and kind of nice to point it at your head on low speed while you sleep. It's also great for stoking a fire! I usually use charcoal in my UCO Flat Pack grill and can get it hot in no time.

Definitely to keep the mosquitoes out but also for ventilation. The main piece is 2 sheets of 1/8" thick plastic glued together with a sheet of fibreglass window screen between them. I cut the outer sheet so it fits in the window channels. The inner sheet is a bit smaller. The bottom piece is also plastic and is what's used for residential fence lattice trim. It has an "H" cross section. Basically role the window down, put the "H" section on top of the window, flex the "hole" piece over it and roll the window up. I also made some rain gutters which work great. Both sides provide an opening of about 85 sq. in. I have a 12V fan inside and it keeps the air moving.

Seeing window screens in one of the early posts of this thread I thought I'd add what I made recently for my XJ. They'd work for Comanches too but I don't think many of us sleep in our MJ's ... not in the cab any way.
