  1. Looking good. I did the same to mine about a month ago and am much happier with the stance. Two in. spacers, same wheels and tire size as yours. Exact same reaction from my wife.
  2. You could have those restored professionally and be happy with the results but at $550 before you start it's going to be expensive. I bought a set of 4 in similar condition for $100 CDN (about $75 US). I paid $125 CDN each for them to be done by a wheel restoration shop. They ... - media blasted them - painted them silver - turned down the originally polished surfaces to remove the pits return the shine - clear coated them I was fine at that price as I would have spent a lot of time and effort and not got the same results.
  3. Earning its keep at the beach ...
  4. I painted mine with VHT Roll Bar Paint and after a few years UV rays got to it. I could keep repainting it but I'll probably get it powder coated. As for LINE-X, that's a commitment. If you don't like it it will be very hard to remove. I had my bed LINE-Xd and had the UV additive included. After 3 years I am very happy with it.
  5. Loaded for camping this weekend.
  6. Small load but my MJ is coming in handy for carrying steel for a teardrop trailer I'm building.
  7. You guys won't believe some of the stuff I've hauled home in MJ!
  8. I built a hitch receiver tire carrier for my XJ. I've seen a lot of them on "overlanding" pickup trucks and it would be easy to make one for a Comanche. It doesn't show in these pics but it also carries a 5 lb. propane cylinder and has a folding table top and burner for cooking. I also built it so I can still tow a trailer with it installed. I haven't tried it on my MJ ... but now I'm curious. It would probably look better on a Comanche with a cap.
  9. Thanks. Yes, it an original - Pt. #8982200691. They went for $143.95 so that's probably why there aren't many around. It fits around the sport bar the way it should but they weren't meant to be water tight. It wouldn't be possible. The way they were originally mounted is terrible. The front is OK, basically a keder rail that is screwed to the front top of the bed. The sides and rear rely on VELCRO being stuck to the body and tailgate which would look OK when the tonneau is on but awful when it is rolled up. I made aluminum angle iron rails that can be easily taken off when the tonneau is off. I'm going to have the aluminum LINE-X'd so it will blend in with the bed. I also made a second cross bar (2 are better than the original 1). Fortunately I had a second set of the plastic brackets. The tonneau is an original but it's short by about 2". I'm going to have a short extension sewn on so it will hang over the top of the tailgate. The extension will have pockets sewn in so I can insert magnetic bars to keep it reasonably tight ... I hope! I'm not quite finished but here's what it looks like so far.
  10. I've done a few things in the last little while. I straightened out, blasted, painted and installed an OEM rear bumper and lifted the front end 2" to level out the stance. I also installed a front hitch.
  11. Yes, Turbines. They clear the lug nuts (short height) by a 1/4". This is for the rears. My fronts were fine.
  12. I've replaced mine with Dorman studs #610-449 from Rock Auto. RockAuto Although it's not absolutely necessary, I used a Lisle installation tool #22800 ... More Information for LISLE 22800 (rockauto.com) .
  13. Nice. I camped this past weekend with a group of friends with a variety of trailers. One was a 1971 Holiday Rambler. Mine was a bit different.
  14. You could get them turned down in a lathe. I've had 2 sets done, one of which was was badly pitted. I could have sanded forever and still not have been happy with the results. A wheel restoration shop did them for me at a reasonable price ($125 CDN). Anything I would have done wouldn't have come close.
  15. I built a JCR DIY bumper several years ago and it was pretty straight forward. They are cut so that the sections you bend are only about 3/8" or so wide so with a bit of grunt it's not that bad. The main reason they sell them this way is to reduce the shipping costs. Mine came in a flat box vs. one that would have filled half of the bed of my MJ. They do give you a sense of accomplishment if you weld them yourself so there's that factor too. I won't buy anything from JCR ever again though. A year or so ago I placed an order for 2 small items. One arrived and the second one came on the following day. I paid shipping and duty (to Canada) for both items separately. Double the cost for 2 things that could have put in one small box! I called to ask why and they couldn't have cared less.
  16. ^^^ Good lists. A few minor things ... - I always check the glove box for an owners manual. I've even found receipts that lead me to recently installed parts. - I grab small brackets, hardware, etc. that I can restore, basically sandblast and powder coat in large groups, and put in to my stock. It speeds up maintenance and repair jobs later. - Small thing but I've replaced 3 windshield washer pumps with ones from NAPA and the rubber washer for each one leaked. I usually grab a few extras. I always walk out with a bag if small items and tell them they are the fasteners, etc. for the larger parts I'm buying. I've never been charged for them.
  17. Same here re the Spectre rads. I put one in both my MJ & XJ about a year and a half ago and so far no issues. I got them from Rock Auto.
  18. I probably should check it out then. I've only owned this one for a year. I guess the paper work hasn't caught up with me yet.
  19. Thanks again @eaglescout526 . "Three recalls"! I had no idea. Funny thing re the dealership. In 2005 I worked about 3 minutes away from Seven View Chrysler and had another car I owned serviced there. It's about a half an hour away from here. I should go in and discuss the recalls with them. In Ontario, any car that is 20 years old MUST be appraised before it can be sold. Even a parts car like an MJ I sold about 3 yrs. ago. This is so the thieving government can extract all the tax money it can from you. I wonder if they will still be issuing recalls after 20 yrs.?
  20. Thanks @eaglescout526 This is a early LJ. They were only available from 2004 to 2006 and according to many didn't go on sale until July of 2004. No one is quite sure of the lead time but being built in March (St. Patrick's Day!) makes it an early one. It was ordered without a hard top which is odd for Ontario. The woman who bought it new didn't want to pay the price I guess. Not having that option meant it also came without the electrical lines, switches, etc. or the plumbing for the rear window defroster or the wiper. The washer bottle also has only one pump. I had no idea what dealership this one was bought at. By total coincidence I'll be camping 15 minutes from Port Elgin on Lake Huron in May. I'll see if the dealership still exists.
  21. @eaglescout526 Thank you for doing this! I have various build sheets under different names for each of my Jeeps (4) and for a few I used to have. I've got most of them at the dealership here in town. In each case they've said ... "we're not supposed to do this" and then act like they're doing me a favour under the table. I'm not sure what Body Code JX72 means. It doesn't appear on the sheets that I have for this one or on the ones for a former XJ I had, a 1995 which was also a 2 dr. Re "YAC Build To Canada Mkt. Specifications", I understand that all Jeeps sold in Canada come with a block heater. I can't remember my old CJ but every other one that I've owned came with one. Other features may be included in this spec but I can't think of what. Re the dealership it came from, I've owned 3 XJs and each one came from Bob Bannerman Motors. It's a big dealership but Toronto is a big city so I find this kind of funny. I've never been in that dealership. I bought the first one new in 1990 and my local dealer brought it in from Bannerman. I have the original sales receipt for this one. It was bought by a Chrysler employee and shows the 5% discount he got. Thanks again.
  22. Nice pics. I drove my first XJ through the Granby area in 1990 and it was a great winter drive. We were on a ski trip of about 4 days in Stowe followed by another 4 days in Mont Tremblant where I think you are now. It was a new 4 dr. Laredo also black and it was our first trip with it. I too have boxes of old photos and I really need to search through them for pics of that Jeep. The XJ was my daily transport then. My hobby cars were MGs. We took ski trips with a few of them too, Mont Tremblant being one of our favourite spots.
  23. Nope. That's something I've never owned or wanted ... in a Jeep any way.
  24. @89 MJ - You might get a laugh out of the way I painted this one. I did it with Tremclad which is basically Canadian Rustoleum, single stage enamel. I shot it outdoors in my backyard. I has new fenders and a windshield frame plus the doors, tailgate and cowl were off when I did it. The "good parts" have 4 coats with wet sanding in between. I have a few small areas I want to go back at and then I might buff it out and polish it. This is my main winter Jeep and that along with trail rides is going to beat it up a bit. I wanted something I could easily touch up. hence the Tremclad.
