  1. i had this same problem about 4 months ago.i replaced the key switch and it didnt help so i got a ignition switch.didnt fit went and got another didnt fit either.after 4 different switches at 3 different stores that didnt fit i gave up and did what the po of your truck did.just ran a pushbutton switch from battery to starter solenoid. after that from time to time the key wouldnt crank it so i just push the button and it would start.that went on for about 2 months on a random basis. honestly though it has'nt happened in at least 2 months.i know none of that probably helps you. my guess would be the ignition switch, when you installed yours did you have the slider in the right position?i can't remember the procedure but its here on the forum somewhere.maybe try and find that and read thru it and see if when you installed yours everything went like it says there?hopefully that will help

    uhwarrie

Anyone know when uwharrie opens this year? i think its the 1st of next month? when ever it opens anyone interested in meeting up and riding some trails? i'm gonna have to go on the easier or intermediate trails, the only vehicle i have here is the manche so i gonna try not to destroy it to bad lol. will need it for a ride to work.
  3. welcome to the insanity, at least you're here ,you'll find alot of answers to the questions you'll soon be asking :)
  4. when I'm in florida the only store near me is a autozone which normally i hate but since its out in the forest a couple of the guys there actually know what they are doing.they hired one guy about 3 years ago that actually owns a cj7 that he has built with a 350 and other stuff so i always go to him.he's the one that got me the bastard u-joint for my 9 inch rear end in the manche. i had went there a few hours earlier and asked for it and they looked at me stupid when i replied to the what car is it going into and i said a 88commanche and a 76 ford f150. after a few minutes of discussing it i asked when rod was coming in lol.soon as i walked in they had already told him i was coming he had the ujoint on the counter waiting :) up here in NC i use napa, our compnay has an account with a 20% discount we can use and they do sell a higher quality part.and usually they will go to a book and find that crazy weird part no one but a jeep person would ask for.go ask a autozone person for a generic transmission transfer mounting bushing and watch the glaze come over their eyes and the blank face they make. ask a napa guy and usually he'll grab a book open it to a page full of rubber mounts and say which one you want :) edit: if i find a parts store with a girl selling parts and showing off goods i'll switch to there no matter how bad the service lol
  5. whichever side the little spring wraps around the seal on goes inward or toward the oil source look for a little spring thing on the lip of the seal
  6. no one said a COMMANDO? i had a 69 (i think) commando with the dauntless v6 in it man that thing sounded soooooo sweet when you tached it out in low range scooting thru some mud. sounded way better than any v8 i ever heard. it rode terrible and the all around drum brakes didnt really stop it very well.given what i know know id change the axles out anyway.get new spring packs. the older ones with the wrangler front end are awesome looking. the newer ones 70 and above i think? the front end looked horrible. :)
  7. i ordered parts from rustys when i came back from iraq last year. UPS wouldnt deliver them because i live on a dirt road. i waited about 2 weeks after being home and called them and said hey wheres my $#!&? they said it was returned undeliverable. i was like great i have to go to NC in 2 weeks can you send them expedited using FEDEX they're like we don't use fedex sorry. i said ok well just credit the money back on my card. they don't credit your card either they give a store credit. so basically they still owe me 270$ i think it is. they're just rediculous we don't use fedex why is it you don't i mean wth? and no refund on my credit card I'm not even sure that legal lol. i'll never order anything from them again.i had nothing but $#!&ty experience with them

    top speed

on my way back and forth between N.C. and Florida i usually cruise around 75 or 80 mph sometimes i'll look at tom tom and i'll be edging on 90and have to slow down.I'm actually suprised at how smooth this thing drives at higher speeds. at around 55 it starts to shake but at about 65 it smooths out again. i do have the wide axles out of a full sized truck though.
  9. when i did my soa i used a ford 9 inch rear end. i used the perches that were on the axle cut them off and moved them to fit . when i got it running it did have axle wrap and hop bad in sand. i went to tractor supply and bought some tractor turnbuckles and some cold roll steel rods and made braces. i actually made mine kinda short because i only grabbed 1 rod instead of 2 and i live so far from the store iwasnt going back. it worked though so it was all good. when i soa my yj i used the bought perches from a 4x4 shop and welded them on didnt have any axle wrap with the yj. i think the lightweight of the mj bed makes you hope and wrap alot.
  10. i reb uild hwmmv's at work, we always replace the thermostat. in my opinion the way to replace one is like this.remove the old one and clean it up real good get all the old gasket and rtv off it. clean the block where the housing goes good too. once you get it all cleaned spray both with brake kleen or something like that.then aply a small amount of of rtv to the housing stick the gasket on it then some rtv on the back of the gasket too. stick the thermostat in the block and put the housing on and bolt it down.tighten both bolts down evenly a little at a time until they are tight enough.(I'm not sure what the torque is i just tighten them down)let that sit until the rtv is dry before you put the coolant back in. the key is getting everything cleaned up good so the rtv sticks and let it dry completly. this method works for me on a weekly basis hope it helps someone here.
  11. ok i drove the comanche to Florida for christmas.about every 120 miles the gauge would get down below quarter tank. id pull in and get fuel but never held more than 11 gallons.in looking around it shows they came with 23.5 gallon tanks? has anyone else experienced this before?i'm wondering of my gauge is bad or maybe someone put a small tank in it? I'm gonna grab a 5 gallon fuel can and drive around until i run out and see how long it goes after it gets to empty.
  12. dejavu i replaced my waterpump today also and also had the manche run hot on start up and the surge tank never drained out any of the coolant in there, i removed the top radiator hose and filled from there when coolant started coming out of the block where it attaches i stuck it back on and tightened up the clamp fired it up and everything was fine after that. i guess alot of guys cut that hose and put a radiator cap tube assembly there.

I'm in the Fayetteville Sanford area work outside Ft Bragg. i went to uwharrie last year for some event have never been on any of the trails yet. maybe this springs we cann meet up somewhere and do some trail riding? met one of the guys on here thats from Arbarmale bought some parts from him . would be cool if we could get 4 or 5 manches all together out on the trails at the same time.
  14. I was a generator mechanic in Iraq last year we always replaced the standard military spec batteries with the yellow tops, for any of our vehicles we used red tops.i run red tops in my jeeps and havent had any problems.we used the red and yellows in iraq because the water in the normal batteries always went away in no time over there.after replacing a battery with a yellow or red top i never had any problem, i was there for 14 months.i'm not sure how any of this relates just my experience :)
  15. i got basically same setup but with ax15 tranny only time i did fuel check was highway travel between nc and florida highway miles. i was running pretty fast 75 to 80 mph according to tomtom anyway. i was getting 15 mpg during that trip
  16. depends on what 4.0 for the renix you can use dodge neon injectors the last part of the part number is 703. if you look on cherokee forum there a thread about what injectors are compatible with what. theres also a guy that sells the 703's for pretty cheap. i ordered 2 sets and put them in my mj and sons xj. the difference in the injectors is the old renix are single nozzle while the 703's are 4 nozzle, supposedly they have better spray pattern and better ionization.
  17. hoping someone here has an answer, i hate asking anything on JF cause you get so many different answers your usually more confused after asking than you were before you asked. on a 89 yj with the 4.2 engine what does the 02 sensor control? my thinkng was it would effect the fuel somewhere in the carb but the carter was changed out for a weber so that wouldnt be the case anymore right? does it have anything to do with the spark advance at the distrubitor maybe? i was thinking the distrubitor was vacuum advance but can't remember. having a problem on my gf's wrangler seems to run on sometimes and then sometimes wanna stall out at idle Thanks John
  18. i love my tom tom i don't know how i found anything the first 40 years of my life i swear.

    Gas prices

2.99.9 for 87 octane today in Fayettenam lol guess thats pretty cheap compared to rest of you guys. anyone know how to convert the tires size to mpg thing? when i was driving from florida back up here i was averaging 15 mpg but thats with the stock drive egar driving the speedo. so with 33's am i getting better or worse mpg?
  20. didnt chrysler sell there share of jeep to Fiat? and the one they showed was a wj or tj and looked really cool, think it was a proto from like 2005 if i remember right which usually never happens lol.
  21. wd-40 pb blaster and those type penetrants work great for dissolving glue also. where i work we get vehicles with stickers all over everywhere i just spray them with pb blaster and wait about 10 minutes then scrap them with a scraper.I'm not sure what effect it has on paint long term when I'm done i spray window cleaner on the area and clean it up that way.pb blaster is good for when you stuff on your hands that go-jo won't take off too like jb weld lol. sparay and let it sit a few minutes and it comes right off.
  22. yea get rid of the 3.07's it'll feel like you got a new motor when you do lol
  23. i wasn't even aware there was a torque for the knock sensor, when i got a new one i just tightened it up. been running fine.
  24. Brandon, Theres a store in Ocala/Bellview called performance 4x4 (i think) that has all that kind of stuff. they also have used gear sets etc and new sets. they carre shock mounts and spring perches. if they don't have it they can tell you where to get it. its right on the side of 441 just before ocala.theres also a decent jy right before them called marks that usually has alot of xj's in there. last time i went they had a mj in there too that was around christmas.i bought a transmission crossmember with the mount for 12$. John
  25. with a cooling system pressure tester you can test for a cracked head or blown head gasket if its blown in the cooling side.to do so remove the radiator cap install the pressure tester but don't pump it up. crank the vehicle and watch the pressure gauge if it builds up over system pressure its probably a blown head or gasket. leats thats how we checked on the diesel engines back in the day :) idk about the water pump seems either it pumps water or it doesnt, i guess over time it would wear a little but it should still provide adequate water flow to the engine. as i drive down the road my temperature gauge goes from 190 to 210 back and forth as the thermostat opens.if you have an accurate gauge it seems you would see this maybe with a less sensitive gauge you wouldnt not sure. but if you have a good gauge how would you not see this?( i guess it could depend where your temp sender is located too)
