  1. yea I'm sure its part of the egr system, and we don't have vehicle inspections in Florida where the vehicle is registered. its the 1/2 metal tube the screws into the intake manifold below the air horn and the exhaust on the side right above whatever sensor that is.exhaust air temperature sensor i would imagine. and thanks for your replies guys.
  2. can someone tell me what purpose the cross tube connected to intake and exhaust manifold serves on the renix engine? i put a reman engine in my manche last month and drove it up here to carolina, rode around a week or so and noticed a exhaust leak. found the crossover tube was out of the intake manifold, when i got down there and looked the threaded part of the intake manifold was broke off,i held it in place with a bungee cord and jb welded it that lasted a week, this morning i went to walmart and it was exhaust leak worse than ever.the jb weld broke off or came lose something.i took the whole thing off and cut it in half folded the exhaust side over and put it back in, on the intake side i found a penny fit into the hole and lodged about 1/4 inch up in there on a lip so i covered the penny with red high temp rtv and shoved it in there, after it dried i filled in the rest of the hole with more rtv. hopefully that will hold any vacuum leaks from occuring. but what effect will the tube not being hooked up have?
  3. I'm actually out fo the military now and contracting so i have to square myself away with houseing :) was alot easier when the military did it for me
  4. There's a guy on jeepforum is always setting up URE trips, he has one next weekend.I'm still living in a hotel(this is my 5th week) wasting money i could be buying jeep parts with lol.i should have a rental house here next week or so. then i'll start seriously searching for trails to ride around here.funny you see alot of jeeps here but i've only found 1 local jeep club. i've seen 2 other mj's here. both were 2x4 :)
  5. easiest way to get it out is put a jack under the transfer/tranny mount, loosen the bolts and let it down a little, from there you should be able to get a 3/8 ratchet with a socket on it prolly a short extension too.it your a 2x4 just put the tranny jack on the tranny and remove the tranny mount and let it down some.don't forget to support the back of the engine when you pull the tranny out.
  6. hey you guys still here in Fayetteville? i need to meet some people to trail ride with around here. and i keep hearing about uwarie maybe someone can show me where it is. or some riding on Bragg, all the roads i see off of 24 have posted signs on them :(
  7. Brent i would probably be interested in one would you ship it to North Carolina? John
  8. The transfer plug should have a copper or felt type washer on it.different ones have different types i guess. i've never torqued a drain or fill plug on anything just make sure it good and snug, and since they are aluminum case do not over tighten aluminum is easy to strip. i've never used any loctite on a drain or fill plug either. if you do use the loctite use the one that says medium removable,i think its the red one and blue is the permenant.(not sure though its early and i just woke up. honestly though its pretty simple remove the plug squirt some auto tranny fluid in until it starts to run out of the hole, put the plug in and tighten it up. you shouldnt have any problems with it. john
  9. Are you running a fram oil filter?if so get a different oil filter wix or puralator i had a newly rebuilt eng in a yj 4.2 basically same and put a fram on it after about a week the stupid thing lost all oil pressure while i was trail riding. i shut it off and checked the oil etc everything was fine. it was also ticking a reaqlly loud aggressive tick at the time. after i checked the oil etc i started it back up and it had oil pressure i went home and got online and did some research and found that people with the 4.2 had alot of oil psi problems with the fram filters i went and got a wix and installed. i never had anymore problems. this could have been anything stuck in the oil pump or on the pickup tube that just dropped when i turned the vehicle off idk. but for a few extra dollars for a good filter i always get a wix or puralator now just in case :) John
  10. hey thx for the input mopwrd, what size tires are you running?
  11. I put neon 703's in my mj and noticed easier faster starts and less high idle right after start up. i can't say about the mpg increase as about a week later i put a new titan stock motor in it.(not the stroker) i also put 703's in my sons cherokee his idles better and starts better but still high idles at start up. the 703's we got were used not rebuilt too. John
  12. Thanks for the info Eagle. with that setup what is the braking ratio any idea? John
  13. ok maybe I'm dense i'm not sure, i've read thru the threads about the load sensing valve but can't figure out what exactly i need to do to bypass it.how do i know which line in the back is the brake line and which is the bypass or whatever?i just moved to North Carolina and got noone to help me so i can't crack lines with brake applied or whatever.any bleeding i will do with a vacuum pump. looks like block 1 line on the block up front, take all the lines off the block in the rear and somehow hook the 2 rear brake lines to the line coming from the block up front. is there a t at the parts store to do this? i wanna do this because ive noticed when it rains and i brake medium to hard my front tires lock up and slide.being from florida and now in NC I'm not wanting my front end locking up next month or so when it starts snowing or the roads are iced over lol. thanks for any advice, John
  14. my key tumbler was bad too, thats why i bought it too. wish i would have read this post before i started what a pia that was lol. i never did get that little retaining ring back in place,i pushed it down as far as i could with a socket then put the steering wheel back on and hope it pushed it far enough to set the retainer in place. i drove it and it did ok so i guess its alright.the guy at advance auto gave me the wrong ignition switch so i couldnt replace that.so i'm still using the push button to start it.
  15. i bought a new key switch and a new ignition switch today, will install them tomorrow if i can get the key switch out. also i guess the ignition switch is somewhere on the column too. i read somewhere to lower the steering column and its on it. i'll do that tomorrow. hopefully one of those fixes the problem.i'm almost sure its the ignition switch, sometimes after ive driven it for a few minutes it will start using the key, sometimes not,if itys sat more than say an hour it won't start with the key(this is based only on the last 3 days anyway)
  16. as stated its pretty simple really. 4 bolts hold the fuel rail on the manifold. remove them and then pull up on the rail at both ends.after you've removed the wires.i always take tape and mark what wire came from what injector.I'm not even sure it matters but more than likely it does,I'm sure they have to fire in order with the ignition spark.once those 2 are loose just pull the injector out. sometimes the seals are a little stuck a good tug will get them out.i'd would order new o-ring seals if the new injectors don't come with them.and i've found it easier to put a little grease on each oring before reassembly, makes the rail go back on easier.
  17. i went to the napa and asked for a new starter relay and the guy said it didnt show a starter relay. i know what your talking about i looked at it and wondered what it was. was the only thing i saw that resembled a relay for the starter really. was hoping parts store would hand me a new one. when he said he didnt have a listing for a starter solenoid i was kinda baffled.i'll go to car quest and ask them today or tomorrow. and thanks for the reply. John
  18. ok here's my situation: pulled into popeyes chicken turned truck off(88 manche 4.0)went to leave turn key everything comes on gauges jump etc starter doesnt turn over.its a new starter.maybe a week old from napa. after loosening starter and wiggling etc. finally ussed a screw driver to cross the starter it spun but didnt kick to the flywheel to engage.got a piece of wire and ran from the pos sid eof battery to the little wire on the solenoid and it cranks and starts. i went and got a temporary starter button from carquest and wired it up to start the thing.question: is there a ignition switch in the steering column that needs replaced?also the manche starts without the key in the ignition.it just turns forward and starts(well now it doesnt but it did)the button is working but id like to fix it right anyone know what I'm talking about :) Thanks John
  19. FOB danger wasnt that saddams old palace on the river? we gave that back to the Iraqi's about 3 months ago. not sure what i can write here with opsec and this being a public domain.but your right the worst experience3s are usually the small fobs.I should be out of here in a month or 2 ready to go got here in march of 08.to much time in the desert to much sir to much lol.we have given most of the fobs back now btw. very few left
  20. Dude thats a sweet looking mj,i'm on Speicher right now, contracting, had my gf pick me up a mj can't wait to get home and start working on it.i'm reading up lol seeing what I'm in for :) sucks about your leg man :( John
  21. hey wanna be mj, If your asking where you can get the little u shaped ends he used for his linkage, i'd check the caterpillar dealer near you they usually have a used parts department and theres millions of those little things all over equipment. when i worked at the cat dealer i threw away a ton of those lol.any used equipment dealler would probably have them there used on hydraulic control levers .
  22. :USAflag: Hey man i love the look of your manche, i had a white one 2wd few years back traded it for a bigger truck which i needed at the time. i just found an 89 swb on craigs list for 300$ and sent my gf to go get it.I'm gonna go about the same as you did 33's white spoke wheels (i love white spoke wheels everyone laughs i put them on everything lol). i'm just gonna swap everything over from my yj i have a rebuilt 4.2 w/ weber and dana 44 G4 axles with detroits.only problem is i'm stuck in Iraq right now. this forum has given me something to do over here during my down time and lots of inspiration. Again love the truck Mnkyboy GREAT job on it. John
