I think I kept my original door handles, will look tomorrow. Buck.

Great find Rich! Was it crowded? The LKQ in Daytona usually is swamped on 40% off weekends.

Nice rig and welcome to Comanche Club. You have done an awesome job getting to where your wife is proud of it again, great accomplishment! Looking forward to more updates and feel free to browse around, it is a great place. Buck.

Derf, I agree, spot on. I would say that has to be a hell of a blind spot on both sides but it probably has 24 cameras to show you what is going on around you.

I remember the Trucks TV show cut down a long bed C10 pickup to make it a short bed. If I remember correctly they even cut the bed down. The work involved in that was so extreme, even though they made it look doable by normal humans I can't imagine taking on that type of work because their original premise was that the short bed C10 looks better and is worth more money, I couldn't see justifying the work and cost to get a short bed. Just to shorten the truck to fit the short bed or to shorten a long bed to fit a short frame would be a huge undertaking. Also, this site is made up of a great number of knowledgeable people who don't judge but give great advice and also a lot of people like me who marvel at the work others do. I think a lot of people may have seen your original post and thought your project is out of their league. I think Dzimm wrote what some probably thought, make the work as easy and inexpensive as possible. Good luck! Buck

I would just go with the cheaper one. Agree that if a FedEx truck or the like ends up needing help they can afford to pay a recovery company.

Thanks eagle scout, I didn't mean heavy sanding as in start with 60 grit, figured it is going to be just a lot of elbow grease and patience. As bad as the truck is I was pleasantly surprised in the condition of the flares, no big gouges etc. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J727AZ using Tapatalk

They are actually in good shape. I scrubbed them down and can send you close ups if you want. They will need to be sanded heavily because the truck was painted on top of the original paint and they didn't do a go job of prep, several bubbles. They are still flexible and all the tabs are there. I do not have the brackets for the driver's side and the passenger side brackets have some rust and every nut broke off when I took them off. If you look at the first pic I posted the driver's side brackets are in really bad shape and were fitted with at least 3 different size screws and nuts and they are all seized by the rust. That flare took some select words to get it off without destroying it, but glad I had the patience to get it, at least I didn't have to worry about damaging the bedside, it was more flexible than the flares!

And none of this stuff is for me except the stereo, b pillar speaker brackets and the dash bezel. Need to get up in the attic and see what else I have accumulated and have a garage sale. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J727AZ using Tapatalk

Had to use my brain to get the parking brake pedal out of the way to get to the only screw on the kick panel. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J727AZ using Tapatalk

You are welcome, good luck getting one, at least grey was so common, that is what I have also. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J727AZ using Tapatalk

It is still in one piece but it looks like someone took a Dremel tool and cut a slot (about 1/4" x 3") it in for some reason, that is why I left it.

Well I did the best I could and ran out of energy, couldn't get the rear slider window out. It is there and has been started but I was going to break something if I kept working on it. I do have a complete grey interior except for the dash and under dash panel. I also tried to get the spare tire winch but there is too much rust, it is part of the truck. I even soaked the bolts when I got there and that didn't work. I also got the rear wiring harness and the b pillar exhausters. The headliner is in rough shape, but I did get it out in one piece. I also left the drip rails, sorry I forgot about those. Even though it is beautiful weather out, it was getting toasty in and around the truck. I learned a lot so if I ever take my interior completely out to redo floors, wiring etc. I will have a better plan. I am beat, will post pics later, done for now. Buck.

Thanks for the list, unfortunately I was in a pinch after getting the rear fender flares off, what a pita because of the rusted bolts. The B pillar vent covers were already gone. There is a rear slider and I might go back tomorrow morning to get that and the interior trim pieces, I didn't have my large torx with me to get the seat belts off. Both bumpers were home made junk. The hood was in the bed leaning against the cab, I had to lift it off the cab to see if there was a cargo light, no such luck, even the under side of the hood had significant rust, never had seen that before. I did look at the spare tire winch also and it was in bad shape, I don't know if I can get it off in one piece. Whoever took the bench seat took the brackets also. If anyone thinks of anything else let me know, I will try to snag it, I hadn't thought of a few of the above items, thanks!

That is my plan, got distracted. Having the VIN on their ID stickers is much easier than trying to read the tag on the dash! Thanks for the reminder!

There is an mj at a local lkq. It is a '91 and was in bad shape before it was put to rest. The lkq pics showed only one tail light and bench seat, both were gone when I got there. It had less than 140k but looked like it came straight from the rust belt, destined to fold like a greeting card. I got both rear fender flares, driver's side was a problem because the plates had non factory bolts and nuts which had rusted. I was able to work the tabs out with a flat edge without losing any! Snagged a few other things like the jeep stereo, b pillar speaker brackets. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J727AZ using Tapatalk

Free Comanche got a fuel tank question
buxmj replied to Derek502's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Welcome to the addiction! You are going to see some very jealous mj owners pop up. To have been given a good condition, low mileage Comanche given to you is awesome! You will find all your answers somewhere on this forum. I did just see a thread about gas tanks and fuel pumps, sorry I am heading to work and can't lead you there. If you don't already know this, everything from the doors forward is the same on the Comanche (mj) and Cherokee (xj). You might have problems finding same color header panel but should be able to find the right parts. Good luck and keep posting pics and progress! Buck. -
Saturday I took out the tray my radiator overflow tank sits on and wire wheeled it and painted it black. It was looking bad from the coolant purges and bad caps over the years. Makes my Mac's aluminum tank look much better.

Wow, just wow. I just read this whole build thread and I am not worthy to be in the same thread as you. You are doing amazing work, thanks for sharing and thanks for being so detailed oriented. Now I must go clean my mj from top to bottom with a toothbrush and q tips. Buck.

Hello everyone, trying to do some small things, had bought new cables from MeanLemons a few months ago and finally put them on, great product. Going to start to go through more electrical issues, get Cruiser's tips done and see if I can prevent future electrical issues.
-
Wow, very impressive that you didn't have a lot of experience wrenching and you jumped in head first with a Comanche! Great work, keep the pics coming. Yes this is a great place to be for info and help! Buck.
