Really nice Scramblers. I agree, looked like gas station coffee. Maybe that's the point, though.

Front Dana 44 questions
kryptronic replied to Jackrabbit41's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
37s. Gotcha. You probably need the D44. -
Don"t cut. Push in and twist to remove the bulbs. You may be working against a little corrosion.
-
If you get as far as the headlight switch, you should also be checking for loose wiring at the base of the steering column - sometimes wires loosen in the connectors there and the lights all run through there. Also a bad multiswitch (turn signal switch) can cause weird lighting issues.

I was thinking the same thing. JKs came with 32" BFG MTs, and the new JLs come with 33" BFG ATs. I've had both and highly recommend the ATs.

This thread is four years old. I recommend you PM the OP and inquire. Please post an update back to this thread when you have some info.

There's no manual for what you did to your MJ. Uncharted territory. To pull it off at all was a major accomplishment. After a while I bet you come back to it, a V2, with fresh ideas.

I knew there was a checklist. Looks like plenty going green :)

Anytime. I'll be registering mine within the next couple of weeks. Make sure you list Comanche Club as your club. I need to see your checklist :)

July 2019 Mid-Atlantic CC PowWow / All-Breeds Jeep Show

Not sure on the numbers, Bamtam might be a tad bigger based on what you posted. It's big though. Sweet! Should be quite a few of us this year. -
4x4 D35 non-C/3.55 to D44/4.10/LSD?
kryptronic replied to rynoshark's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think he means the current D35 is an open differential, and he'd prefer it to be locked, or at least limited slip. That's what I'm reading anyway. Adding a locker or limited slip and upgrading to the NP242 would all be nice-to-haves, but if the requirement is just to drive in the snow, a working stock NP231 with an open D35 will do just fine. The regear sounds unnecessary - it's 3.55 now running 30x9.5x15 tires. They should spin just fine. I'd say all terrain tires and a working transfer case gets it around in the snow. Those mud tires don't do well in snow at all, in my experience. -
what movie would you like to see again for the first time?
kryptronic replied to Pete M's topic in The Pub
Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Back to the Future - all good choices on my list, however I'd put Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises) at the top of my list. -
July 2019 Mid-Atlantic CC PowWow / All-Breeds Jeep Show
kryptronic replied to kryptronic's topic in Northeast
I'm hoping you make it. I think last year you said you wished it wasn't 12 hours away. This year sounds more promising. I may very well have my YJ done and entered, and if so we can jam out at the show with my new enhanced radio. Might be a good "business trip" to clean out the swap meet of all radios early Saturday morning. You might be able to grab enough stock for the year. That's cutting it close. Hope to see you there - maybe you can sneak away for a day just to take a break. -
You should know that HOrnbrod really respected what you brought to the community when you were on-topic and helpful. Both of you bantered publicly for a long time, but even he couldn't deny your attention to detail, and the quality of work you put into your truck. That's what's great about this community - even polar opposite personalities like yourselves could find things in common to agree on, if only to disagree. As Pete said, it's going to take members just like us to continue on. This site will take on new life, inspired by those like HOrnbrod that gave so much to us. I'm going to try to post more on things I know about. I hope to see you at the All-Breeds Jeep Show in York, PA this year in July. I just posted a sticky in the Pub with details. Would be good to meet up.

I will be there. For certain. Discussion and info on the 2019 Mid-Atlantic PowWow and All-Breeds Jeep Show can be found here: Thanks for getting this started, MeanLemons.

It's that time of year again, only we're getting on the ball earlier this time around. I know @MeanLemons is excited, because he posted a new thread in the Northeast forum in December about it. This year is going to be awesome. Here's the lowdown: About the Show The All-Breeds Jeep Show is in York, PA again this year from July 20-21, 2019. This is the biggest show on the east coast each year, and there will be tons of Jeeps, vendors, food and fun. Check out the website for the club that runs the show for more information and to register: http://pajeeps.org/ Last year we, as a club, made an effort to get a bunch of trucks in the show as well as to get together and meet each other face to face. We had a whole bunch of members on hand, including @krustyballer16, @87MJTIM, @TheDude, @Bonkers, @Alexia, @MeanLemons, Dom and others. It was also terrible weather all weekend, so we're hoping for better this time around. @krustyballer16 will be staying at my place over the weekend, which is about 10 minutes from the fairgrounds where the show is being held. On Saturday evening, after the show closes down, we'll be having a cookout at my place, and everyone is invited. If you come, bring your favorite drink and maybe a snack food or dessert. I'll supply burgers, dogs, etc. Anyone wanting to camp at my place on Friday or Saturday night is welcome, and I've got enough yard where we can park a bunch of trucks. PM me or @krustyballer16 to get my address. The show is awesome. You can check out pics from last year here: Several members are anticipating getting swap meet booths. We'd like to get as many MJs in the show as possible, obviously. Looks don't count - bring your beater. I do. Last year we treated the show and getting together as a way get transport big parts all over and trade all kinds of stuff. This is a great opportunity, with five months lead time, to work out who will be there and what large parts they might be able to get you. Please reply to let us know you're coming! Jeep Turbine 10-Spoke Rims Restoration
kryptronic replied to NEO auto's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
To restore these to the factory look you would need to blast clean, polish the spokes and outer rim clean and bright, then clear coat. -
Talk me off the ledge ... thinking about buying an LJ
kryptronic replied to NHMJXJ's topic in The Pub
TJs are as bad as YJs with frame and floor rot. Notoriously bad. I would closely inspect both prior to purchase. $10k is a decent price for a running, well maintained, clean TJ, however it's not a great price. It might be a great price for an LJ of that condition, though, I don't know. The thing that would worry me about this particular rig is that you say it's running 35s but don't mention any type of axle upgrades. Unless it's a Rubicon, I'm pretty sure it will have a D30 up front and a D35 in the back. The D35 will only handle 35s for a limited time, with a light foot. Those appear to be JK rims, with possible wheel spacers - or they could be aftermarket Quadratec rims. Hard to tell from the pic. It looks like the transfer case may have been dropped for the lift, rather than going the (better) SYE route. For reference, last year I bought a beat-around 2004 TJ (regular size, not LJ). It's got frame rot I didn't see during inspection (snow on the ground, should have looked closer). It has some fender rust, but is altogether in good condition, besides the frame. It's a 4.0L automatic and had 189k miles on it. It's not lifted or modified in any way. It's engine was rebuilt at 179k, and it's transmission was rebuilt at 187k. I spent $7500 on it, and it runs like a champ. -

Good luck. The Gatorback is a good choice. I think it increases tolerances a bit. -

This too. Would need a Wagoneer or Rodeo/Passport D44 rear to match. -
Front Dana 44 questions
kryptronic replied to Jackrabbit41's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Why do you need a D44 front? Are you running very large tires or wheeling your rig extremely hard? As far as I know, the only driver side drop D44s that are the right width are found on 1982-1991 Wagoneers and 2003-2006 Wrangler TJ Rubicons. The swap doesn't gain you much over the stock D30, which is plenty stout. Unless you need a D44 up front, or have more money than most, skip it. -

I could see the belt laying diagonally across the water pump pulley and traced that to the power steering pump pulley. I removed the power steering pump pulley with a special puller, cleaned everything up then reinstalled the pulley on the shaft in the right spot. In my case a bunch of gunk on the shaft was keeping the pulley from being installed far enough onto the shaft to get everything lined up.
