Black wires are grounds. Let's just stick with that test first. So ohm between the spot where you spliced to the ground behind the taillight.

Which multimeter do you own?

Ok, ohm between the black wire and ground With the key off. If that's 0 ohms check for vvoltage on The blue wire with the lights on. These wires should go to the bottom circuit of the light bulb. Once you've done these we will check the next set

Got a test light?

Does the vehicle have any other ac components? As far as dash they are the same as a xj I dunno about replacements but either a good upholstery shop or car part. Com Welcome

Looks like a broken bulb, when you say darker, sounds like the wires are flipped. As for the reverse lights does it have the trans fuse in the fuse block. Also do you have a test light?

Ain't that the sad truth, had my xj stolen in broad daylight couple years ago. They caught him driving around and arrested them. after that I had to fix it, I'm getting the cost of parts, no labor. That's if I'm lucky to ever see a check.

Motor has returned from the machine shop and had to be bored. 030 over just to true up the cylinders. When I said this thing killed mosquitoes I wasn't lying. I stopped traffic one day after I floored the thing. Stay tuned for the build of the haggard polara that this motors going into.

they should be 3 wires on the right side and possible 6 on the left, the left side feeds the right side other then turn signals. the dark blue ones should be the parking lamps/taillamps the black is ground and common on both lights the gray with a black strip should be left turn signal and brown should be right turn signal the last two are also brake lights

Did you index the dizzy? If you pull the Vac line of is there fuel. Do the auto parts stores rent a pressure tester?
