    Have you put a dvom on it and seen what it is doing with the engine running? Have you tested the alt? Just because it's new doesn't mean it's good

    you can also rig up the cable that goes to it and route it somewhere where you can access and jam

    as long as it doesn't slip off and you can figure out a way to keep it engage, there should be no problem, just remember this gets buried under the dash and any issues you will have to go digging

    I forget which way, it's been a while since i've had to mess with it. lots of pictures and you have to get to the very bottom of the column.

    it needs to be pulled back towards the firewall, i have a write up on how to install the auto column into a manual that eliminates it. you can always just tie it back so that you can turn the ignition to the off position.

    After that start checking the spark while running, use a spark tester, you can buy a cheap one that will pass the spark thru able just watch and see when it quits. But do 1-5 first

    But what gauge set does he have was my question. He says his dad has done it but doesn't state what his gauge set is for.

    R12 to r134 to r20/400/500 all are different gauges. Also why contaminate what ever they were using the gauge set previously?

    You might also check to see what his gauges are, different refrigerants take different gauges
