Thanks man , wow its been a while since I've put any updates on this thread . I've been slammed with work for months , can't really complain but I've been working on a few different drivetrains at the moment . -

On top of what Pete said , no one emphasized steering ? Yes yes , you don't have to swap steering but at 5+ inches of lift , even a aftermarket adjustable track bar will be screaming to blow the bushings . A good lift will cost you no matter what you do and its all expensive , cheap out now and you'll have to do it over , that doesn't get any cheaper . If you don't want to spend good money , don't lift it . 2-3" max before all hell breaks loose in your suspension , steering , drive shaft angles . If you plan on bigger tires than 35's , don't even use the axles you have under your truck , go ahead and throw D60's in it now , or a Ford 8.8 axle . If you still want a 5-6" lift , than add steering and knuckles to your list . It will need it . As far as what kit to go with thats on you , remember you get what you pay for . RE makes some good springs and control arms but the track bar sucks , for that go ahead and purchase an over the axle track bar mount and custom make the track bar with Big Azz bushings , preferably Currie . Tera-Flex is expensive but so far the best equipment I've purchased so far , everything is drivable and durable , my steering has kept perfect alignment going on six months of abuse . Inverted TRE's all the way man . Glad I spent the money on those . -

Since it looks like the radiator is MIA as well , might as well go for gusto with the V8 , however the stroked 4.0 HO is a toss up as far as cost . Might be able to swap a V8 for cheaper ... -
Do you prefer a body colored tailgate handle on your MJ?
DJM/78 replied to fiatslug87's topic in The Pub
I don't know about prefer but they look better on street trucks than off road vehicles . Better than chrome ... -
91" is a good year to get , welcome to the club ! Pics ?

Yep , ends up working out cheaper for the insurance and you . Of course Jim , you get them for free anyway ...

Of course Don actually has them all hooked up and looking good with pics ... :clapping:

Comanche of the month, Aug 2010 --- CWLONGSHOT's 1989

Sure has come a long way CW , nice write ups and build progress . -
Yep , I missed seeing that truck , everyone started telling me about it knowing I owned two of them . Kinda gave me the inspiration to start my sport truck build .
-
I had two Nighthawk , CB750's . Other than the fuel tank issue I had , I've never had an issue with any of the Hondas I've owned .
-
Do you mean honeycomb style like on the limited edition waggy's ?

It sure sounds like something with the ignition , like the points grounding out once it gets hot , hard for me to remember what those things had in them . Good thing is , there isn't much to them . I did the same thing with those carbs , spent all the time cleaning and replacing the seals , ran for about a full tank of gas until all the crap in the tank clogged them right back up . That time I pulled the tank , flushed it , relined it and replaced all the fuel hoses new . That finally fixed it , turned out the fuel was corroding the liner from the inside out , every time I filled it up , it just threw more gunk in the carbs . Your problem more sounds like something wrong with the spark or overheating of the plugs or points .

As much fun as a lift kit or cool bumpers look on your truck , I think its better to have a dependable , working drivetrain . My vote goes to new axles , transfer case upgrade and HO motor upgrades . 456's are a plus and a locker is a must . Most of my vehicles are sleepers , I'd rather be hauling azz in a primer gray bucket with a highly tuned V8 than stuck in the mud with shiny bumpers . Don't cheap out either , go all the way with the important stuff like axles and you shouldn't have to rebuild them anytime soon . I spent 1500 per axle on a complete build up of each axle . Solid axle shafts , alloy gears , welded and reinforced housings and tubes . After my gears broke in , I found out how much of a benefit it was to have overbuilt axles with 456's . I've already pulled two Jeeps out of a bad situation , one of them was stuck in mud all the way to the rockers on a 6" lifted XJ with 35"s .

Looks good man , welcome to the club ! My 91 had the same mirrors .

Sounds like it sat around for a long time , problems with starting and ignition are common with a bike that sits . The fuel system would be my first guess considering it only takes about a year for the fuel to go bad . Corrosion of the inner gas tank and fuel lines or pepcock valve are more common around here . I had a CB 750 that only sat for 9 months , it took me disassembling all for carbs and cleaning them spotless , replacing the the fuel lines and the reserve grommet . New plugs and wires and I was good .

So I spun a rod bearing... now what?
DJM/78 replied to Philistine's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I agree , after looking at swapping my 2.5 in the 91" , I found it to be the same amount of work and money to swap in a TBI V8 . I'm working on that now . -

Yeah , thats the problem , usually you have to make the track bar out of DOM . Cool thing is you can use whatever threaded or welded ends you prefer . Looking real good man ! -
In my opinion , a well built D44 is the best all around option , Alloy axle shafts , reinforced housings , welded shafts and alloy gears are the way to go . This coming from someone who has broke more D60's than 44's . Sure , I'd love a new set of matching built D60's , but unless someone wants to just give me a couple of custom built axles , I'm sticking with my guns on the 44 . I'll turn the the D30 into a super turdy and be done with it . No the 92" won't be crawling on 20" foot boulders or be sportin' some 40" tires but it will see its fair share of madness for sure . The 35" tires are max for me as well .

Thats some progress in a short amount of time . What are your plans for the track bar , I see you used the lower mount on the axle . Mine blew out in less than three months , so now I'm going with an over the axle track bar mount and custom made bar w/ Currie ends and brackets . The RE track bar brackets are great but the bushings suck . -
Exactly !!! Found a truck and it happened to be a Jeep , thats win - win in my book !

The day we get rid of NASA is the day we become a third world country , almost every piece of technology we have today is thanks to some NASA involvement . Computers , cell phones , GPS , Laser welders . not to mention all the cool materials they've come up with in last 50 years , like making ceramics and titanium a household product . Now lets talk economy , all that money is going to pay American people to build , R&D and overall production of these products . The military and NASA use and fund Private contractors that intern pay our asses to build a 100K dollar HHMMVV . So what's the b*@$£ ? I don't see any of our asses wanting to pony up the change for R&D . Simply put we are a bunch of cheep asses . Most of us don't make what a scientist at NASA makes , so we see the spending as gross waste of money . However we sure want our cheap GPS navigation device for our used Jeeps ! This is still the land of opportunity no matter how much spending Obama is throwing out , bailing out big insurance and bank's. I started my own company three years ago . Since then I've been able bust out over a 100k a year making my own products and selling them , right here in the USA ! We still have something these third world countries don't have , its called infrastructure . They can blow up buildings , we'll just build another one , they can get all the technology , until we outsource it to another country . China is sitting pretty right now , but wait until we pull the rug out from under them . You've seen what happened when we started doing business with their enemy . I love my country , I think I'll stay right here and watch the euro dollar drop and drop , like it has been doing .
