chevy tbi 350 in 86 comanche x 4x4
DJM/78 replied to jeepers's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There isn't a harness listed but they do exist check with this guy . If you go on this site be prepared to turn down the speakers on your computer , unless you want to be instantly blasted back to the mid 80"s ... http://www.jimsperformance.com/ Check this link . -
Nice seats help make the truck , one of the better upgrades on my truck . I couldn't stand the bench very long at all . :D
-
Red Mj's must come in pairs ... Thats a clean truck for an 89" , I think the interior looks good enough to keep for a while .

Hi, I'm here to introduce Lilly, my 88 Manche

Welcome to the club ! -
Self employed Goldsmith / fabricator , Welder , Gemologist . I like to light things on fire ...

Most of the parts they sell are high quality , their shocks are rebadged Bilstein's and everything has held up good . The bad thing is their Track bar ends , although they have a good amount of flex , they don't hold up very long . I would probably go with a Curry track bar end and mount next time I'm in there .

rear wheels lock up when i hit the brakes ?!?!
DJM/78 replied to one_bad_MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Adjust and clean the rear drums , check the lines and anything else that could be wrong , sometimes its just rusty drums . I went with discs in the rear so I did away with most of those problems . -
Wider stance?backspaceing question....again
DJM/78 replied to smithe1811's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I ended up using a 15x10" wheel with 4" backspacing , they'll rub on a stock to mild lift though . Up to about 3" then your good . Just flair rub , not on the LCA's . -
Just wipe it down and apply , that stuff can stick to almost anything .

'88 Eliminator... Feb. 2009 - June 2026
DJM/78 replied to neohic's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
You can finish the wheels the old way with sand paper and mothers polish , or you can save some time by sending them to the blaster and refinish from there . They'll look brad new for sure . If their not too bad than just use some 3M liquid rubbing compound followed by a crap load of mothers , use a polisher attached to a drill ( power ) . Repeat if needed . :smart: If you were closer I'd show you some of the projects I've done . They'll finish out better than stock . -
What are the plans for that thing ? Fix it or swap it ?
-
It is a tough call , thats for sure ! The more I drive this couch around the more I like it . My resolution is to fix it up while its in the Caprice , make it super Lt1 , then I'll put in the manche once everything is how I want it . Yeah , a charged 454 .... :agree:

These are the pics I promised .... Meet Los wagon ... Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Yes its only the stocker now but its got plans . Image Not Found Image Not Found The way I figure it , its got all the harness right there , it works and runs decent , all the sensors are there and as a bonus its got posi loc rear . The only problem now is I like driving it , it takes absolutely no effort to scoot around town , making city driving a cinch . If I put this thing in the manche , it will light up the tires no problem .

Yeah , I'm doing a stroker build to the 92" eventually , probably when the motor goes , hopefully a long time from now .... :chillin:
-
A stroker is a complete engine rebuild , done right anyway it will cost a little more than just rebuilding with stock specs , larger injectors are not a must but if you intend to actually get any power out of it I would do that as well . I would also look for a high output motor to get the true benefit of all the 96+ plus upgrades like the 97+ intake and other little goodies that will push some pony's . IMHO , just swap a V8 in it and be done .

Yep , we are all left to making our own ... Its all good though , thats one of the irons in my fire . :redX:

Bought another Comanche... Fix or Recover Parts and Scrap?
DJM/78 replied to comanche09's topic in The Pub
See now thats what I'm talking about , hell if your going to go through all the work swapping motors harnesses sensors and trans , never mind re gearing and interior stuff . Might as well go all the way ... -
Cool car man , I had two of them . One of them had more mods than that , I bought that one the same way , mostly tricked already , however those parts are designed for racing , not driving daily , its only a mater of time that the turbo corrodes the exhaust valves , the crank goes for a walk in the park and the dual friction clutch takes a dump in your wallet . Why do you think all that stuff has been replaced already ? Turbos usually blow their seals every 30k miles and they have the ever hated timing belt and tensioner . If you even slip two or three teeth on those high friction motors , your going to bend every valve in the exhaust or intake side , or both . That happened to me three times on two different cars , one time was a faulty tensioner , another time it was just the tensioner pully . Just my two cents , fix it up best you can and sell it for a profit and sell the thing to some unsuspecting kid who doesn't know better . Listen to the guys on the site , we must know something . Sure fix it up have fun but don't keep it long at all .

Yes sir bring that trailer with you and I'll FINALLY pay you for it .. I've been wanting to meet you for a while . :wavey:

This was a topic thread on NAXJA the other day . We'll have to sneak one in somewhere .... http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1037865

Chrysler already has made a nice truck , its called the J8 , however their trying to con the government into buying it for a patrol vehicle , used for border patrol . That way it pays for all the RD and overhead cost of the vehicle . Currently its being sold to overseas military like the Egyptian's and other middle east country's with little money to buy million dollar armored armada's . Its also available in Europe where people actually have more money to spend the 50+ k euro on a recreational vehicle . Until our economy shapes up and we actually pony up the cash for our products and start paying good prices for our consumer goods , they have no interest in selling this truck to the average joe . Lets face it guys we are all a bunch of cheap @sses , as much as we b@tch about wanting a new pick up , we probably won't be running out to get one anytime soon .

So for about a month I've been looking for a motor for the 91" , yesterday I stumbled across a unique deal . Its a 95" Caprice Classic wagon , fully loaded without leather . I know , don't laugh because its already lowered with Impala SS mag wheels . However I bought it for the drivetrain , it has the LT1 Z28 motor from the early 90's Corvette and Camaro Z28 , it also has the 400 trans and 4 bolt main with posi lock . So I'm guessing this will make a nice upgrade to the 91" sport truck . I had my hands on a LS1 V8 but it didn't have all the sensors and the wiring harness was in pieces . Turns out the motor had allot of miles and had been sitting for a period of years , ( Outside ) . Now my only problem is I kinda like the Caprice with its couch like handling and Loco looks . I'm now torn between the ripping this thing out since its already a daily driver , it has about 80k on the OD but in far better shape than the LS1 I found , also IT RUNS , everything works and with just a touch of throttle it scoots this behemoth right down the road . I know , :needpics: Los Locos kick your balls into out-er space .... I'll have some pics up soon , what ya' think ?

Just plain sweet man , I'll probably run out of energy and patience well before mine ever looks like that .

Bought another Comanche... Fix or Recover Parts and Scrap?
DJM/78 replied to comanche09's topic in The Pub
I'll probably see about the 2.5 , I'm still pissed at it right now . I just put 300 bucks in the front pully's timing chain and Harmonic balancer , new seals all around and it still needs a cylinder head rebuild . :fs1: -
