rear disc brake conversion
DJM/78 replied to misterroadman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Does that still apply to the 89" XJ dana 44 ? I am assuming they are pretty much the same . :dunno: Thanks ! :dunce: in training ! -
Sweet truck by the way ! I used allot of different cleaners but if you experiment with a couple of soap / water mixtures that works pretty well . My door panels where terrible , none of that worked so I used Gumout " carb and choke cleaner !! That shiz will take anything off, however bleaching the surface a shade or two . Looks good though , for door panels with no hope . :chillin: Here is a pic of mine :

rear disc brake conversion

I'm wanting to know as well . Could you buy the parts new , from say NAPA or OEM ? Are the parts a direct swap ? What should we look out for ? I am doing this , or trying anyway to my 89" Dana 44 . -
Buy both of them ! Use the drivetrain and axles from the 90" and the interior , panels from the better of the two . Or wait till a newer model XJ comes around thats all good . Thats what I'm patiently waiting for , one day when I have the money .

Alright ! I got the shop to make new brackets for my bumper , I got the D" rings welded . I'm trying to get it on this weekend with pics ! Thanks to all you guys who told me it was upside down , I would have never guessed that was the problem . :fool: :dunce: Anywho , I,ll have pics up this weekend ! -
I used the 2" Rubicon Express lift kit , came with the pucks and the ad-a-leaf in the rear . Didn't need a new brake line or at least until I go past three inches . I also used the RE lift shocks and am working on RE drop brackets , w/ new ZJ V8 springs in the front . I rides better than it did stock ! Here is my shiz !

I have to say , they do look good ! However I would have to agree with some of the above posts , I would like to see them real clean to the body lines as possible . I have a fabrication shop myself and know all too well the costs of production ! I think you have too see it as a business gamble . I have to put thousands of dollars in product to sit in my showroom and collect dust . The one thing I have learned is that if you make it , your going to eventually sell it !! Make a good est. of how many you think you will sell and make a little more than that . I bet you that if you came up with a real nice and clean version , just for the MJ . Showcase it ! I know allot more guys would want them on their trucks . " If you build it they will come "! I think the rounded corners would look good . That being said . I'm sure you will do a great job . I'll go out on a limb and make a gamble myself ! I'm in !! IN 1.) Jeepcomj 2.) Cdn Glenwood 3.) pingpong 4.) 88pioneer 5.) dakal 6.) Raoden83 7.) DJM/78 -
Does the armrest still bolt on ? Mine had a little plastic shim , but that fell off , only one side had that on there , I lost it though . :dunno:

I left my steering box alone until I have the money for an aftermarket steering box . The suspension is the first place I would look. My 92" has allot more miles than yours and the steering and handling sucked . For starters I replaced the track bar that was shot , I also went to a larger tire and wheel , replaced the shocks and got a set aftermarket bushings . I am impressed with how stable the ride and steering is now . Next is WJ upper and lower control arms and ZJ V8 springs . A new sway bar is in order too .

Mine does O.K , up until about 10,000 ft . Then starts to get a little sluggish . I put a new air cleaner on and it does run a little better .
-
yeah , man !! Come on down and see me . I live in the springs , let me know when your coming down . Pete's right though , plan on a tune up before you come up here . the lack of oxygen makes it hard on old motors . Dave M.

My personal opinion is the old school look , just black no chrome , but the way it looks with your truck , I think that looks real clean . Nice upgrade !!
