Some solid numbers have come out about the storm. - 90 mile wide band running North-South - 770 mile track across the Midwest - 130 mph wind speeds in areas (mostly from central to eastern Iowa) - (17) EF0-EF1 tornados were spotted during the derecho The storm in total took around an hour or so to pass but the worst of the wind lasted from 20-40 minutes depending on location and were equivalent to a category 4 hurricane. There are still some areas without power because of shortages of transformers and other line equipment. Pretty much everywhere you go is flat corn fields, crushed grain bins, missing/damaged roofs, and every tree is missing large limbs if it survived at all. Most yards still have large piles of debris out front. The city just picked up my pile today, our small town compost filled immediately and the county opened up a large area of land for people to drop off debris. Watching some of the videos on YouTube you can get an idea of what it was like during the storm as well as the aftermath. Here is a video from cedar rapids, this is one of the best quality videos from inside a building I've seen but there are many that show during the storm and the aftermath.

Fuel line leak - not the O-rings!
Dzimm replied to CaptainPatchy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You can get the quick connects from the HELP rack at the auto parts store. On mine, I cut that plastic line off back at the metal fuel line and attached the rubber there and a new quick connect fitting. It takes like 10" of rubber hose to replace the plastic section. If you leave a little bit of the plastic line on the metal line, it will act like a flare to help seal and hold the rubber fuel line to the metal line. The metal line doesn't have a flare there so it can be tricky to keep the rubber on there. Just be sure to use hose rated for fuel injection systems. -
Info on Renix Keyless Entry/Gen 4 Camaro keyless
Dzimm replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm sure there was plenty more tied to the ecu at that point. I'm not exactly sure how the options work but I believe all 97+ XJs with power windows and locks should have the wiring for keyless entry. As far as I can tell it's a matter of adding the overhead module with the correct keyfob. Don't worry, it's hard to know everything about each version of the XJ/MJ. I personally know Jack about the Renix system. -

What do you mean by "tied to the ecu?" My 97+ truck has keyless entry from a different Jeep than the ecu came from. -
Yes. Don't worry, I didn't know what it was for the longest time either.

No it's for holding an individual match so you can get it down into the grate and not burn yourself when it lights. A box of matches wouldn't last long sitting out in the rain.

It should be similar or the same to measure on any vehicle I'd think.
-
I wouldn't measure it on the top of the ball joint because it's not necessarily square with the knuckle or the tire. I'm not sure exactly where to measure it, the flattest surface would be probably be the brake rotor but not sure how you could have weight in it and measure at the same time. Maybe there is a way to measure it off the outside of the tire looking from the front of the truck with a drywall square? Have you looked online at all about how to measure camber?

No rear brakes
Dzimm replied to Dickinson County Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sounds like you have air in the lines. Try a good brake bleed and see what it does. -
It's entirely possible these pictures aren't actually online anymore. Are these the only 3 photos you have? I'm trying to make out stickers on the truck or something useful in the background to better locate it.
-
It's only bringing up the link for this post on CC and a search for "red Cherokee" for some reason. The first photo wouldn't even let me search it. I'll have to try it on desktop later, maybe mobile is being dumb.
-
i think that applies to many of us. Where do you find this picture??? We definitely need to do some digging on this truck. As fiatslug87 said, could be an unaccounted for street MJ.

I'm talking about the operating system. iPhone 6 cannot download ios13, iPhone 6s and 6s plus can but will be limited on the features. Basically the phone is at end of life and won't be receiving new updates. It will still function but some things may stop working or slow down over time, especially as websites and apps start to use new things that the old OS can't run or support fully. It also introduces major security issues because it won't be getting security updates. Apple is notorious for "planned obsolescence" with their devices in that they will lock out features quickly to keep people buying the newest device. If you plan on using the phone for anything more than talk and text, you'll have to get a new one before too long.
-
Well there is the problem right there What version iPhone do they have? IPhone 6 and older aren't supported anymore. Do they have issues with other sites? Was there an update to the CC site recently?
-
Mobile or desktop? Also does it happen with other websites?
-
On android w/ chrome click the three dots in the upper right and there is a checkbox to turn the desktop version on and off. No problems with pictures here.
-
You should still be able to buy the entire truck, I doubt a service center would retitle these as salvage or junk if they aren't actually a junkyard.

Yes as Money_Pits said, it is called a Derecho. It's straight line winds that get really powerful. They were recorded up to around 100mph sustained in many places and some areas saw higher than that. An F1 tornado is in the range of 73-112mph In some areas speeds were real darn close to F2 tornado speeds. Literally looked like a hurricane, but came quick and unexpectedly like a tornado. We knew rain was coming but had no warning otherwise, sunny skies and within 2mins it was at full force, the whole thing lasted 45-60mins.

First Comanche Metal Sign
Dzimm replied to MJCARENA's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Don't higher ups at the company usually get dibs on the first handful of vehicles off the line? -
Good to hear they got power back. Still quite a few places without here. The family farm is still without power and they quoted 2 more weeks there. Brother-in-law is staying with us until they get power back. Few people at work ended up with some damage to their homes and vehicles. One guy has a farm near Ames and from what I've heard so far he got tons of damage. He's been out all week dealing with it. We went from seeing signs at stores about being out of toilet paper to now signs saying "we are out of generators, chainsaws, and bar oil." Its also incredibly nerve wracking to be at a 4 way stop with 8 lanes of heavy Des Moines traffic going every which way because of a dead stoplight. This year just needs to be over with already.

Do you have to pass a vehicle inspection? That will play a huge role in what you can get. As far as performance cats go, it's just got less material in it and thus less obstruction, they are usually called "high flow" cats. Many older vehicles in Iowa have no cat as they rusted out and were just replaced with pipe. We don't have inspections and unless you are being obnoxious and pissed off the cop to the point he is writing a ticket for everything he can find, I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for it. I don't have a cat on any of my Jeeps just because they either didn't come with them or I didn't want to spend the extra money when rebuilding the exhaust. Your truck won't know the difference if you had a cat or not because there is no downstream O2 sensor in a 90 so it shouldn't really matter what you put on it.

Would I be an idiot if I? AW4-BA10/5
Dzimm replied to Knucklehead97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If it were me, I'd leave the running and driving truck alone until you can get the parts to do what you really want to it. You say it'll be a lot of work to get the parts MJ running, but doing a transmission swap twice in your running MJ and once in the parts rig if you decide to fix it down the road is also a lot of work. Believe it or not, leaving these things sitting for long periods really doesn't mean they need a lot of work. Worst thing to deal with would be bad gas in the tank but that is just a drain and fill if you're lucky, new tank if not. Otherwise a good battery and new oil and will be just fine. Put the parts back you robbed and good to go. -
Do you know what axle is in your MJ and what XJ axle you pulled the parts from? The most common axle is a D35 and in that year range they should be the same in regards to the drum brake parts. If by chance one of them has a D44 or something then they may not use the same parts. Also double check that all you brake parts and cables are seated correctly. Reference pictures online to double check everything is correct.

Oh man you really lucked out then. It seems interstate 80 was kind of the southern cutoff of the really bad stuff. We have some friends 10 miles south of us and they didn't get it too bad either.

Glad to hear you made it out relatively fine. It seems that some areas got it worse than others. Also our power just came back on!!
