  1. With the proper bracket made you can run a YJ steering box. The YJ has a 3.2:1 fixed ratio unlike the XJ/MJ that is variable. You can also run a Durango box with very little modification.
  2. My post was in response to 87Warrior about just swapping in a WJ D30 axle. :smart:
  3. WJ is 5 on 5 bolt pattern. It was the first one that Jeep went back to the larger bolt pattern with. WJ also has different size coils (larger diameter). So the coil buckets need to be changed even if they are in the correct position.
  4. If it's a 3-link setup (aka the upper link mounts on the inside of the frame rail on the same bracket that the LCA mounts) than it's a Gen. 2 or Gen. 3 kit. The difference between the Gen. 2 and Gen. 3 kits is that the Gen. 3 kits have hi-clearance arms (they are bent). 4.10 gears on 35" tires in my opinion is not that bad. I'm running that combo on my YJ that is daily driven and it only has a 4 banger and it's fine (though I don't drive a ton on the interstate). It'll do 60mph fine. It has a decent amount of flex. I recently upgraded shocks to a longer travel when I did my axle swap and it's helped a lot having the extra travel in the shocks. It's all in how you have it setup so the suspension components compliment eachother; not hinder.
  5. RK does not officially make a lift for the MJ. The front components from the XJ lift will swap into the the MJ however. RK never has made a 6" lift for the XJ/MJ; it's a 6.5" lift. Depending on the generation of the lift kit will depend on the quality. RK has 3 generations of the XJ lift, Gen. 1 was made by the original owners of the company and was total rubish. RK than was sold and Jeremy (the new owner) scrapped 99% of the designs and started fresh. Gen. 2 and Gen 3 kits are very good quality. With a 6.5" lift you can fit 35-36" tires with very minimal trimming. It's all about bumpstopping correctly..... My MJ with 6.5" lift on 35" tires
  6. A '86 model will have clearance issues with a 4.0L. The firewall is a bit different on the '86 model year than the 87+. You will need to "clearance" your firewall a bit to fit the 4.0L in.
  7. They are cut to reflect the angle of the frame rails. From a manufacturing standpoint it's easier to make a relief cut and have the customer simply "push" them up to fit the proper angle.
  8. Don't know if this will help or not, but here is a short clip of my XJ. 4.6L Stroker, Flow Daddy Header, Flowmaster Muffler http://jeeptv.com/video/6423
  9. Your actually one of the only one's I've ever heard say that. I take it you don't have an AW4 tranny? Their are some major clearance issues with the AW4 and that header. However for the $$ I will say it's a nice header and do like the fact that it includes a down pipe as well.
  10. I've used it on rockers on our XJ's and also did my entire bed of the MJ with it. It's held up great for several years. The trick is in the prep. One thing I've found that make it hold up better (not flake off) is to shot a coat of normal black paint (I typically use a semi-flat black) than while it's still "tacky" apply the Duplicolor Spray. Picture from my build thread:
  11. Order them in black...
  12. However the bushings are Poly. Poly and control arm bushings in my opinion do not go together. The "expensive" one's use a rubber bushing with a metal sleeve and ride/function much better IMHO. Look into Rock Krawler. Adjustable, made from SOLID STOCK, has a Krawler Joint (flex joint), and a lifetime warranty. Plus if you ever get inchitus you'll not have to replace them with something else.
  13. I ended up using 1/2 x 3/4 angle, and aprox 1.5" long. I than drilled a hole in the center of the 3/4 side for the bolt. You can find it at your local hardware store, and just cut it into pieces. I've sold close to 150 sets of vents over the past few years. I've typically got a few pairs in stock. PM me if your interested in a set.
  14. 4" LCA - 16 3/8" UCA - 15"
  15. Have had the vents installed since the beginning of 2006. No problems with water to date effecting any sensors. Yes we get water/snow in Indiana and I've not had any issues; plus my XJ sits outside as it's to big to fit into the garage at home. I run them on several other of our Jeeps and none of them have had issues either. Some guys have made "drip pans" for them as they worry about water. Here is a pic of Eric's drip pans;
  16. You know you can just swap your existing (pre 97) headlight buckets from side to side and they bolt up and fit with the newer style headlight bezels. You than don't have to splice anything as far as headlights go. All you'll need to do is worry about the turns.
  17. Or I simply have no clue what their rates are. I must hate them, along with Clayton's, Superlift, Zone Offroad, BDS (4.5" & 6"), and all the others I left out since I don't know the rates of.... :dunno: I actually hate Rusty's but I posted those since I know them. :smart:
  18. From center of hub. To many variables w/tires (aka tire size, mud/street, how much air, etc) when measuring from ground. When you measure from center of hub tires do not matter.
  19. In most cases your doing a SOA swap when welding on new perches. Yes the Mopar one's may be cheaper, but they are not very long. When going SOA you want a longer perch to help fight axle wrap. The "aftermarket" one's typically are much longer and will help prevent problems down the road. Long story short; in my opinion spend the few extra bucks and get "aftermarket" and not the Mopar ones....
  20. Those are C4x4 Front and Rear Bumpers (just a FYI).
  21. It's all based on the type of material used and the spring rates that the coils are made to be. Here is a bit of info on the coil spring rates to help you decide (info provided by each manufacture directly); OEM XJ Coil - 145 BDS 3" XJ Coil - 240 DPG 5" XJ Coil - 198 OME 930 XJ Coil (aprox 2") - 160 OME 934 ZJ Coil (aprox 3" on XJ) - 180 TeraFlex 3.5" XJ Coil - 170 TeraFlex 4.5" XJ Coil - 200 Rustys 3" XJ Coil - 150 Rustys 3" HD XJ Coil - 180 Rustys 4.5" XJ Coil - 150 Rustys 4.5" HD XJ Coil - 180 Rustys 6" XJ Coil - 180 Rustys 9" XJ Coil - 180 Rubicon Express 3.5" - 241 Rubicon Express 4.5" - 169 Rubicon Express 5.5" - 185 Rancho 2.5" XJ Coil - 235 Skyjacker 3" XJ Coil - 218 RockKrawler 3" - 180 RockKrawler 4.5" - 180 RockKrawler 6" - 180 Motion 3" XJ Coils - 165 Motion 4.5" XJ Coils - 165 Motion 6" XJ Coils - 165 REMEMBER THAT THE COIL SPRING RATE DOES NOT DETERMINE 100% OF RIDE QUALITY!!! IT VARIES GREATLY BASED ON THE SHOCKS YOU RUN!!! NOT TO MENTION CONTROL ARM ANGLES!
  22. From JCW Website: Funny, cause that lift is for an XJ and will NOT work on a MJ. The rear leafs between the XJ/MJ are totally different.
  23. I've seen it in person as well. Dave's had it for quiet awhile now. Dave is always willing to deal, so make him an offer on it. He's located back by the airport in Warsaw, just show up some day and he'll happily show you around. If your looking for a project I have an '86 LWB that has very minimal rust (small hole in the floor) I'd part with for cheap.
