  1. Sounds like the fuel pump to me. Test it to be sure tho. It could be bad wiring.
  2. Sounds like you have some mice in there tearing up your insulation and making a nest in the ductwork.
  3. Every car has front and rear turn signals. You probably have a bad ground. Do the front parking lights work?
  4. UGLY grille on Junior's XJ. Looks like the grilles everyone and their uncle is running on fullsize Blazers around here.
  5. Make sure the exhaust manifold bolts are tight and that the lead "donut" gasket where the manifold connects to the exhaust pipe is good.
  6. How tall is your lift? I have driven through Mass tons of times and seen hundreds HUGE jacked up trucks with lifts easily over 12" Sounds like the cop has a grudge against you and had to dig deep to find a reason to ticket you.
  7. Be sure to run hoses from the vents on both diffs and the transfer case to a point higher than the deepest water you plan to cross. otherwise youll fill everything with water the first time you dunk the Manche. Oh and don't forget that if the water goes over your hood then it can get into the engine/tranny through the dipsticks if they are not well sealed. Its gonna be a ton of work to get it fully waterproof and even then its still a gamble to drive in water that completely submerges the engine.
  8. I'm sure some of the needed interior pieces like the center console and possibly the tcase shift linkage will be different. It would be much easier to buy a dirt cheap Cherokee to use for the swap. You can find them pretty often for a few hundred bucks for one with accident damage or severe rust. Plus lots of other Cherokee parts are direct swaps into an MJ.
  9. Junkyard will be your best bet. Bring the old one if you have it. There have to be other cars out there that use the same size rubber pad.
  10. Anyone else get hit? I had to go with my wife to a friends house less than a mile away since we are house sitting while they are on their honeymoon. Well......It took us over an hour and trying 5 different routes due to downed trees and wires. We spent most of the trip with a guy in a Rubicon Wrangler following us helping us to remove debris from the road so we could keep going forward. Some of the worst storms to blow through in a long time! My XJ now has some hail damage and I'm sure the MJ does too seeing as it is sitting on 4 jackstands at my buddies house while I do some brake work on it........
  11. I know this may not help but stock 1990 Dakota wheels will bolt up perfectly to a 1988 Comanche. I'm running a set now until I can get my tires mounted on the Jeeps original rims.
  12. Met a friend of my wifes family. MJ was sitting abandoned behind a boat in his yard not in running condition. Asked about it thinking it was an XJ as I could only see a small part of the nose. He told me what it was and that if I wanted it I could have it. He even helped me drag it out with his tractor and told me I could leave it in his driveway so I could use his shop and tools to fix it up. Later on he even found the 5 original turbine wheels it came with. Turns out it did not start due to a corroded CPS connector! Now it just needs new floors. (floors were the ONLY rust on this truck due to a hole in the roof from a strobe light) I was in shock when he said i could have it and almost had a heart attack when I saw that the underside is still BLACK and clean with the exception of the drivers floor!
  13. mine was laying on the floor and had been reduced to a barely recognizable pile of goo form sitting in water. When i picked it up it came apart like a clump of mud. :grrrr:
  14. REBUILD! that looks to be rather clean on the outside. Pick up a parts XJ for another 300 and swap everything over and you'll have a sweet lifted MJ. While I hate seeing any Jeeps go to the crusher they made a lot more XJ's so scrapping one of those is not as bad.
  15. http://www.decodethis.com/Default.aspx? ... F3JL179079 not much there but some basic info.
  16. I own a 93 XJ along with my 88 MJ. Actually I was given the MJ thinking it was an XJ seeing it only from the front poking out from behind a junk old boat. I nearly $#!& myslef when I foud out it was a nearly rust-free (Only the floors as usual are rotted NO body rot) MJ! 2.5/Ax-4/2WD. SporTruck Decals. No power options other than steering. Looking for an XJ with the same specs but a manual tranny for the 4X4 conversion on my MJ. OH...if anyone wants an old boat....20 some odd feet......tires/lights on trailer trashed and Exposed part of boat has plants growing in it.... FREE if you haul it away....Includes 2stroke 115hp outboard.... Also includes several 5gal Outboard gas cans if you want them. Located in East Hampton CT. Sorry Mods if this is wrong then delete or move the free boat section. Just trying to help a friend who is moving get rid of this boat. Seeing as his boat got me my MJ for free ! Boat Will also include s 327 Chevy stock 1960's 'vette motor that is currently sitting whole in scrap metal trailer. Also a 1960's Yamaha 250cc bike with blown motor and spare motor in pieces with no title. Just trying to help a friend who gave me a free MJ get rid of some of his old junkers before he moves. PM me for cell number If you are intrested in boat and bike.
  17. Change your valve cover gasket. I changed mine and the flood of oil down the side of the engine has slowed to a trickle. That trickle being caused by the POS plastic valve cover on my 88 being cracked. Your engine should have some grime on it but if you clean it nicely then it should stay clean. Oil leaking down the side of the motor is probably the valve cover gasket. don't't cheap out. Get the expensive gasket. It's worth it.
  18. Where in CT are you? The road you described sounds like the one to the dump in EH. If you are in the nearby area then I can come and help.
  19. I have heard that a 1/2" bolt cut down will plug it. Not sure on the thread pitch. I'm gonna try this Tuesday. It's the last step to getting my Comanche road worthy!
  20. Sounds like a blown fuse or bad ground wire. Start with the fuses and if that does not work then start looking under the dash for ground wires and wire brush all of them and put them back together.
  21. I remember one of my teachers having one of these in high school. The first Time I worked on it and got to see it up close I fell in love. I've been looking for a good conditon one ever since. Problem is that I live in the salt belt and every one I see is either horribly rotted or if it's in good shape it's horribly overpriced.
  22. I realize this is an old thread but I see CW lives somewhat near me as I live in Central CT as well ( Near Lake Pocotopaug without giving out too much personal info) That trailer is a real nice piece of work. My friend has 3 of those rims sitting next to his abandoned boat as well. I never knew what they fit but if they are Jeep rims I'm gonna go on the hunt for the 4th!. My XJ is in dire need of a new set to replace the beat set on it now. It would be great to meet another local MJ owner so if your up for it drop me a line sometime. My MJ is awaiting some sheet metal for a new floor as my budget allows but hopefully this summer she will be on the road and hopefully soon she will be converted to 4WD with a 4.0 and AX-15.
  23. A friend of mine has a Nissan pickup with a factory Comanche rollbar bolted to the bed. (not bolted to the frame) He told me when he sells the truck He will sell me the rollbar dirt cheap. I don't know if it came from a LWB or SWB as he pulled it off an old rotting comanche found in someones backyard.( truck is already gone :( to the scrapyard no less to be crushed) so I have no way of finding out what it came off of. Is there a difference in rollbars between long and short bed?
  24. My 88 with a 2.5L had Bosch Platinum's in it when I got it. Ran like crap. I replaced them with the Champion RC12LYC plugs and she ran like a champ. I run these same plugs in my 4.0 Cherokee and have no complaints. Jeeps seem to like Champion plugs.
  25. If you wrap it don't plan on wheeling it. Torn vinyl from tree branch scrapes will look 10X worse than a little scratch in the paint
