  1. So it's a slow day. Trying to remove the nuts, the ones that hold the head on, from a 1950 flat head 134 that's been laying on the ground for a couple years. Unable to budge them by hand I got some help. 4ft by 2" pipe with this result. So the question is; is this a cheap tool because it bent? Or is it a quality tool because it didn't break? :dunno: Hey...I said it was a slow day.
  2. Considering that it's a horrible engine that's not even heavy enough to be a good boat anchor, it's a terrible choice for you. And it's not even an easy swap, since your truck was originally set up for a 4.0L. It would be easy for you to get a complete wiring harness out of a wreck, and just go with the 4.0L again. If you really want to avoid EFI, get a Wrangler (or AMC) 4.2L, which was basically the same engine but with a longer stroke and a carburetor. I really hate to disagree with such a noted authority as Eagle, but in this case I feel I must. I have found the 2.8 to be an excellent boat anchor, provided the boat isn't to big, or the currant to swift.
  3. I got a couple. Pay the shipping on one, it's yours.
  4. Great story. Congrats on getting the truck, AND the MJOTM award.
  5. I tried to convince her that $3k was just to much for this part of the country. When she wouldn't come down any I suggested she try ebay. I see she did. Anyway I made a offer of $1,000 on it. Not going any higher. We'll see
  6. T18 with the Dana 20 TC
  7. JY. Junk yard. Pick and Pull. Pull and Pay. You wander freely through the yard and see something you want, pull it, take it up to the front counter and pay. For the larger stuff, you unbolt everthing and then call them. They have a hoist to lift it and drop it in your truck.
  8. Any bolt will break off, eventually. By using harden bolts you just make it harder to drill out.
  9. If it was blowing the fuses, I'd say there was a queer electron in the circuit. Sorry Don. The Devil made me say it.
  10. If I can't buy it at the P&P or Craigslist, I make it.
  11. The beer ? or the whiskey? Anyway I've done both. The whiskey was real rotgut. The beer was OK.
  12. pulling a MJ transmission. 1977 J20, one of Jeeps better creations. That thing gained weight. 20 years ago when I put in a new clutch disc and pressure plate, I lifted it up and put it in place with one hand while I lit my cigar with the other. This time it was a real chore getting it out. I must be getting old, or something. NAH. Just the wind and cold. Rusty floorboards must be a Jeep thing. This is the only rust on the whole truck. Reckon I'll weld in a new floor while I'm at it.
  13. I can't even stand upright on dry ground. Damn that was impressive, and looked like fun.
  14. When you get guages get quality, Stewart Warner, Gale Banks, Moroso,etc.. Not them $4.99 specials at Wally world.
  15. The following suggestions are not from a degreed mechanical or chemical engineer. Just an old pharte that's been messing with old vehicles for way to many years. Drain the old gas and flush the fuel system. Replace all liquids, oil, coolant, brake fluid etc. Over time they absorb moisture and go bad. If sitting on the ground tires tend to dry rot. Inspect them very close and replace if cracked, dry or brittle. If a tire has been flat, replace it. The sidewalls are shot. Remove any rodents that may have taken up residence. Give the thing a good cleaning. Remove the seats, carpet, floor mats etc. Gives you a chance to better inspect it and sometimes you'll be amazed at some of the things you'll find. Inspect drive belts, looking for cracks or brittleness. Make a walk around check on lights, turn signals, make sure they're working. Get a manual on the vehicle. A FSM is best but even a Haynes or Chilton is better than nothing. Don't hesitate to call on CC if you have any problems or need any help. Good luck and welcome to the club. Jim
  16. I moved from NM 20 years ago so this info is 20 years old. State has no smog requirements or enforcement. The city of Albuquerque does. Then, Las Cruces did not have any smog laws but the way it's growing they may have come up with some since. Sorry couldn't be of more help. Try Googling NM or Las Cruces smog laws and see if they can come up with anything.
  17. Man o man,,,When I see all those neat, shiny and clean Jeeps, makes me want to run out and wash mine. So I sit down and have a cup of joe until the urge goes away. :rotf:
  18. Is there a story behind that?
  19. I've always wondered why nobody ever answered my question.
  20. Actually I have 11 now. Got this one after the above pics were taken. Don't have pics of the other two. Do with them? How about just stand back and admire them?
  21. I'm in. Image Not Found Image Not Found
  22. Looks like a good buy. 10-4 on the pics. The steering column in MJ'S are GM. Shouldn't be to hard to find something like you want.
  23. The 277 is the FSM. It covers all the mechanics, engine, wiring, tran, axles, etc,. etc. The The 278 covers the body and related parts. The original 277 is harder to find altho still one occasionally on ebay and Amazon. There is a CD of the 277 available and quite common on ebay. I think the going price is $19.95 if I remember right. The wire you're looking for is light blue. The wiring is the same for guage/lights.
  24. Remove the cable housing from the speedometer. Remove the cable from the housing. Clean, lube,Graphite and replace everything.
  25. Not yet. They had a family emergency come up and had to cancel. Going down Wed and get it. er,,I mean take a look at it.
