  1. I've got a dozen trans&TC'S. Rather than just tearing them apart is there some clue what will be in it by just looking?

    canyon rims

I've got 3 good ones and one broke one with good tires. I think shipping would void any advantage to buying them. Zip 81004

    My UTI Rant

I have had 3 experiences as an instructor. In Spain I taught English to civilians and military and electronics to Spanish Air force personnel. In the states I taught advanced comunications, data processing and computer maintenance to Army and Air Force people. With military people some of them wanted to be there, some didn't. With civilian people they want to be there. They are paying for instruction. They deserve to get what they are paying for. If there is a complaint, get it resolved. Talk to the instructor first. Maybe he was having a bad day. If you don't get satisfaction, then go to his supervisor. But you deserve to get what your paying for. EDUCATION.

    My UTI Rant

Everybody holding down a job has a supervisor. Suggest you and your friends go talk to his.
  5. If your circumstances allow it don't get just the parts separate. Get a complete XJ and remove what you want. You can buy a rolled XJ for what you would pay for just the motor and have everything ya need without numerous trips to the JY. And get half your money back selling whats left. The last wrecked XJ I got had 32K on a rebuilt motor and AX15 Tran and I paid $300 for it.
  6. I didn't see the movie so went to rent it. There are 3 versions. Which one is the one I want? I would guess the '98 version. but not sure.
  7. It very well could be. But I'm thinking it's a CJ5-7 with later fenders. But either way it looks good.
  8. When we got married me and the wife had a discussion. Kids or Jeeps but not both. Flipped a coin, Jeeps won. We lived happily ever after, or until she found the 2 headed coin in my dresser drawer. :rotf:
  9. Who pays the shipping to get it to me,,,er,,,to the winner?
  10. Read the thread above you in this forum. Looking for stock driveshaft lengths
  11. Any aircraft supply Co will have aluminum in different sizes, shapes and grades. If I remember right Lamborgini P400S had an aluminum driveshaft. Goodluck finding one of them in the JY. If you have a military facility or tech type colledge close by check when they have surplus auctions. Get lots of good stuff there.
  12. Made from scrap metal from the scrap pile. Made for one thing only. To push with. Was going to mount a snowplow on here, the 2 holes, but put it on another J20 I have instead. Just to help you get ideas.
  13. Prices vary around the country. Here I sell a low mileage 4.0 for $500. High mileage $400. Thats both motors runs good, no leaks, no noises. A AX15 I get $100. TRansfer cases( Don't them things ever break?) $75. I got over a dozen of them. The only time I've seen a 231j break was on a '73 grand Waggy. I estimate it was revin around 5grand when I slammed it into L from N. Long story, Don't ask.
  14. Could some one please explain to me exactly what is a HPRC dana 30 and what is the purpose? :dunno: :smart:
  15. In my life I've pulled maybe 40-50 cars, trucks out of the ditch. All freebies. Got paid twice.Once when I refused his offer he just reached over and crammed $20 in my pocket. The other time I was going down Raton pass after a fresh snow storm and highway wasn't plowed yet. Safe speed for the road was maybe 20MPH.Because I had a Jeep J10 4WD studded snow tires plus chains, if needed I was doing 30MPH. A yahoo pulled up behind me and let me know he didn't like me taking up the middle of the road, hit his horn and blinked his lights. I pull over and as he goes by he flips me the finger. He's driving 4wd Jap crap.2 miles down the road he's in the ditch almost all the way over on his side. I stop. He asks me if I would pull him out. I says for $50. He screams at me "$50, Just for pulling me out" I said "no I pull you out for nothing. It's $25 for driving reckless and $25 for flippin me. If ya don't like it I'll send a wrecker when I get to town." He paid. Also stayed behind me rest of way into town.
  16. Want to trade? Rust free but not as clean as yours. Already has 4.0 in it.
  17. I was told that for best fuel economy keep the engine on it's torque peak and max vacuam. So I installed a tach and a vacuam gauge. They were right. I haven't burnt a drop of gas since I hit that garbage truck I didn't see 'cause I was busy watching my gauges.
  18. When you check the harmonic balancer don't just look at it. Reach down and move, shake, jiggle it. The HB went out on my '77 J20. For over a week I'm getting funny noises from under the hood. Would eyeball everything and it all looked good. I felt the fan blades, steering pump pully but not the HB.Finally it threw the fan belt. It wasn't untill I was putting the belt back on that I caught on to the fact that the HB was shot. There wasn't a shred of rubber left between the pully and the hub but it looked good just looking at it.
  19. Not a typo. Brain fatigue. I saw it wasn't a B10 and 'assumed.' And we all know what that means. The engine and tranny weren't together. Didn't really look that close to see what's what. Tomorrow's another day. Check things out mor e closely.
  20. Well, it was interesting. Her ol man is in jail for slapping her around. The kid is wanted by the cops and disappeared. She filed for divorce. City an neighbors on her case to clean the yard up. The MJ was stripped, totally, completely. Kid was gonna make a hot rod out of it.Left front fender and front bumper dented. Rest of body straight. No rust, nowhwere. Aluminum Cover, nice shape except hydraulic holds the tail gate open don't work. 350 Chevy and TH350 in bed of MJ. Also in bed was 2 boxes containing Detroit Locker parts. New, never used. A T10 Warner, seems to be OK. couple Holly carbs a couple drive shafts, source unknown. Pile of stuff by the fence. A Jeep 4.0 with AX5 and 231 TC. 2 driveshafts, radiator, looks like everything that was stripped from MJ, Seats, floormats, etc. SOOOOO,,,gave the lady $200, she gave me the title, says 1988, not '86 and I got everything there. Gave 2 guys next door watching $20 to help me load up. IT WAS INTERESTING..Jim
  21. I just got off the phone talking to a lady about a '86 Comanche with camper shell, runs good $600. Me;How good does it run? her;It runs real good. My son drove it back and forth to school. Me.What motor does it have? her;Oh, It doesn't have a motor. It's gone. Me;What transmission does it have? Her, Oh, It doesn't have a transmission. Me, Would you be interested in just selling the camper shell? Her;I can't do that. Me; Why not? Her; It's got a motor and transmission in it. Me.Does it have 4WD? her;It did until the axle broke. Me.Would you take $200 for everything? her. When can you be here? Don't know whether to take the trailer or the dolly. Stay tuned for the conclusion. Should be back in a couple hours. :huh???:
  22. Might try asking your PitBull. Sorry. couldn't resist. It has to do with the proportioning valve for the rear brakes. Which most MJ owners have removed. There are threads on this in the DIY section.
  23. Just a rough test. After the engine has warmed up grab the upper radiator hose. If it's to hot to hold your operating temp is about right. If you can hold it as long as you want your operating temp is way low. Got a ohm meter? Remove the wire from the sending unit. It should read around 1-1.5K at 100* it should read 60-100ohms at 220*. That tests the sending unit. To test the guage apply 12 volts to the wire you removed from the sending unit. The guage should peg. You will wipe the guage out if you hold the voltage to long. Put a 100 ohm Or there about, resister in line between the +12 volts and the guage wire. Guage should read 195-260. These are rough tests but will tell you where the trouble is.
