31. If you get everything put back together with no problems and starts and runs right the first try, then you forgot something on the inside that is going to show up farther down the road. Rob, That avatar is uh,,er,,uhmm, ahh mesmerizing.

Which Cherokee windows will fit the Comanche?
jimoshel replied to CToolmanT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
All 1984 to 1996 XJ windshields and front door glass, 4 door only, will direct swap. From '97 up I.m not sure. I believe all the way to '01 will swap. Some one that knows for sure is certain to pipe in. -
Dash CLOCK,how to rest,I dont know
jimoshel replied to 88AMComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Emptying the box on the bench I found I had 9 clocks. Not 7. The test set up; 12 volt bench power supply Lambda 120. Voltage regulation .01%. 3, 18 inch test leads. 5, vacuum florescent displays 4, liquid crystal displays On the 5 VFD's pins pin A ground pin C battery pin H ign On the 4 LCD's pin A ground pin C battery pin B ign The test consisted of me hooking the clock up, both memory and display and recording the display. Then unhooking the ground lead and waiting 1 minute, then hooking the ground back up. Compared th e two readings. 2 units were inoperative. They got S canned. They were VFD units. Results 2 of the VFD units read the same time they had when turned off. 1 VFD read 12:00 1 LCD read the same time when it got turned off. 1 LCD read a different time everytime it got recycled, 5 times. 2 LCD's read 12:00. I believe this test proves absolutely beyond a doubt several things, being, I have entirely to much free time and need to get a life. Jeep clocks are inconsistent. :shake: -
Congrats an good luck.

I've got 7 clocks in a box. Suddenly got a urge to go plug them in and see what they do. -

This is true only when you turn the ign off but the battery is still connected. It powers the memory. By disconnecting the battery you kill the memory. -
Ring blow by. Worn piston rings. and or leaky valve guides. If your not using any oil, don't worry about it. Even perfect fitting parts will leave a little oil on cylinder walls to burn and show smoke.

Any Jeep that runs and is complete is worth $400. Even if you can't use any of the parts your self. A running 4.0 will bring $300 minimum. $50 each for the tranny and each axle. That's $450 there, Hood, grill, fenders a couple more bucks. A stripped body across the scales, over a hundred bucks. This is of course, assuming you have a place to park it and not living in an apartment or strict zoning, HOA situation.

First thing I would check would be the brake switch. Make sure it hasn't worked loose or is broken.

The dire, embarrassing and expensive consequences of not paying full attention while attempting a difficult landing. Tried to land my Stinson 108 with a 30knot cross wind. Rebuilt prop $1800 Engine tear down to inspect crankshaft $50 Dope and cloth to cover skin rash $150 My ego,,,,,,????????

In the good old days, don't get me started, you could start and hear a engine run sitting on the ground. Hook a battery up, dribble a little gas down the carb and you had a running engine. I don't see how that can be done with a puter controlled system. Thats why I'm asking, is there any way it can be done? Now I don't pull a motor until the buyer has heard it run, leaves a deposit and then I pull it. Or he pulls it. :dunno:

In 2 years I've only seen 2 MJ'S at the local P&P. I did get all the goodies from both of them. There's a third one at the local tow impound lot, but after me and the owner had a little altercation awhile back I can't even get close to the place. The Dork Headed *sshole even parked it next to the fence so I would see it and eat my heart out every time I passed it.

Had an interesting morning. Went to town and on the way back the MJ overheated. Never had a bit of trouble with it before. Took 4 stops to let it cool down and an hour longer to get home. Had coolant in reservoir so it wasn't low. The engine and upper radiator hose were to hot to touch. The radiator and lower hose wasn't even warm. Waiting for it to cool down now and then will check it out. Stay tuned for more of this interesting saga, or just change channels. :(

Replacing ignition with switches
jimoshel replied to 1tonMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Your just doing something wrong and/or not giving us enough info. If you apply +12 volts to all the wires in that connector, SOMETHING is going to happen, somewhere. Turn signal blink, wipers come on, something. -
Have you removed the old pump yet? Or verified that it is bad? There has been times when the rubber hose from the pump to the metal line has disintegrated and the pump was good. If the pump is bad then just replace it with a inline fuel pump.

Only thing I can think of would be to wire a thermistor into the electric fan circuit, maybe in parallel with one of the heat sensors in the radiator or head and tied into the fan relay

Can't speak for all those years as I only have a '98, which I just checked. They are similiar and will swap. Only difference being the child safety latch on the back latch.

Replacing ignition with switches
jimoshel replied to 1tonMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
 Me too. Get a test light, or volt meter. Find the hot wire. Usually it will be larger than the others and red. Hook a short length of wire to it. Take the other end of the wire and touch the various terminals in the connector(s). The starter will be obvious, make sure your not in gear. When you touch the run wire the dash will activate, lights will come on, needles will move. A shower of sparks will be ground. To confuse the enemy you might install a dozen switches on a panel with only 2 hooked up. Bien suarte. -

A 10GA red wire is the +12V input. A 14GA dark green is the starter A 12GA orange is the run This will work and I have done it. However I suggest you take skinnyg up on his offer. Jim -
Unless you've got my stamina forget sharing 5 girls 1 room. Too many long drawn out silences. $90 a night? Forget the hotel room. That leaves the beach and the truck stop. Depending on the individual area the beach can suck or be a fun spot. I spent many a night on Myrtle Beach where they had rest rooms, trash cans, Cabanas, BBQ pits and some times all nite party, bon fire going. There are other beaches where your gonna be their all alone except for vagrants, bums and punks who will give you a hard time. I always had my Colt handy but you do have your dogs. Then there's the semi exclusive areas. Park there and your gonna be hassled by the HOA private cops. The truck stops are a good bet. A restaurant and showers and toilets. Park on the outer edge so they don't see ya and know your not a Truck driver. These places are open to the public but the showers and some other features are truck driver only. Many truck stops have small rooms with shared toilet and shower for rent to truckers only for about half what a motel charges. Park near a motel. In the early morning watch for who ever leaves first. Get in the room, get showered, get out. And in case you're wondering, yes I'm speaking from personal experience. Except for the 5 girls.

I had a Dodge D100 camper van with the pop up roof, 6 cylinder, 3 speed std. It was nice. I really liked it, except for a few minor quirks. It was so lite that if I tromped it on a slick road it would swap ends. Have the roof raised and forget it would bang by head on the edge of the van roof. 2 people could be comfy in it, although it helped if they were intimate. Except for one minor incident, the roof blew off while batting down the freeway, it was a reliable, economical unit.

Loose exhaust Manifold bolts
jimoshel replied to 87Chief's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They either stay put, work loose or freeze-rust and you twist the head off trying to remove them. Consider yourself lucky, clean the hole out good, use anti-seize on the threads and screw 'em back in.
