  1. Your build gets more and more interesting with each post. What is where the clock was? Did you bring over the alternator from the Escalade? Looks like you are drawing a lot of amps. What are you running off of the compressor while in motion? Love the train horn idea. I have that in mind also. An actual train horn is huge, huge, not to mention the size of an air tank. I am hoping to find an electric one but with the train sound. Many here thought the idea was nucking futs. Actually they are only half right. Here is one to plant on top of your cab. Yours is not a subtle mobile.
  2. When you get a chance, what do the additions to your dash control?
  3. Manchemark, have a close up of the engine you want to share with us? Aluminium block? Did you get it out of a Vette? Not sure which ones, but some Vette engines are used in boats too. Much trouble getting in hooked up? Tell us what you did for on board computer to run it.
  4. Three years ago I bought a MJ with leaking windshield. I took it to glass shop. Asked them to remove windshield, reseal it and replace it. They wouldn't for some reason about messing it up. They wanted to replace it. I asked how much. $135. I thought there had to be a mistake. if you have a leak, you need to check condition of metal after windshield is out. A good chance a repair is needed
  5. Awesome truck. How many hours would you estimate you have in it? Looks too nice to go out tearing up the hillsides. Terrain looks like CA? Just need a wild flame shooting out the back for a Hollywood movie. If you have just joined CC in the last 24 hours, I would say you figured out many things on your own.
  6. Pete, I am beginning to think you are not a preservationist.
  7. How did the First trip in the 86 go? How did a chap on Martha's Vineyard find an MJ in Kalispell?
  8. MJ, enquiring minds want to know. What did you decide?
  9. What are you likely to have done to door panels? Replace vinyl? I would like to have high impact plastic that is used on newer cars/trucks and do away with vinyl. As long as it looks decent.
  10. Thanks for the tips. JeepDriver that link looks awesome. I am on the eastern edge of the continent and they are on the western edge. The dashboard would have to be shipped to them and they ship it back. Have you, or anyone else here, had any experience with them?
  11. Mancheflo, your tires might not fit just right, but you might want to know that from what I see, you joined the CC on Sept 17 and posted your first thread. The thread has 1152 views. Although other threads might have generated that much interest in that short time, I have not seen it. As a new kid on the block, everyone wants things to go well for you and your truck. If some seem hardass, they are. But they mostly give good advice.
  12. There are two kinds of MJs. One has split dashboards and the other will have split dashboards. Repairing 30 years old splits is a temporary patch holding off the enevitable. Carpet like covers do not look like much. Has anyone formed new ones out of neoprene or some other material? Some clever person must have succeeded with this.
  13. mancheflo, by now you have figured out you have a "find" with your 92 in good shape and a long bed to boot. Thought you might find these numbers interesting and why they give rise to many not wanting you to cut it up. I do not know how many long beds were produced in 92. From Wikipedia Phaseout[edit] The decision to phase out the Jeep Comanche "came from a combination of two factors— low sales and Chrysler's attempts to make the Jeep brand fit into the Chrysler hierarchy of Plymouth, Dodge, and Chrysler models" with Jeep housing SUVs and Dodge making trucks.[15] As sales dropped, the Comanche was planned for discontinuation. In 1990, the National Council of Jeep-Eagle dealers asked Chrysler to discontinue the Comanche, and allow them to sell a version of the Dodge Dakota pickup.[16] The company decided to cease production of the Comanche on June 12, 1992, after only a few thousand more trucks rolled off the Toledo, Ohio, assembly line.[17] A total of 190,446 Comanches were made during its production run.[18] Production numbers: 1985: 29,245 1986: 33,386 1987: 43,070 1988: 43,718 1989: 25,311 1990: 9,576 1991: 5,188 1992: 952
  14. Yes that is really difficult to look at such filth. What, may I ask, are you wiping down your engine with? The chrome strips on the front of your truck shown elsewhere look to have no dents and shines like it is new. How did you manage that?
  15. I see there are tire preferences and issues here. I usually head to Costco and buy a new set of Michelins for most vehicles I have owned. Any mistake is those for MJs?
  16. I routinely drive 65 on way to work. If i hit an expansion joint, i might get a shimy in the front end but clears itself. The only time I have had full blown death woble was when the air pressure in tires had gotten way low. I pumped them to 34psi and it did not happen again. If you have done all that you indicate, you might experiment with diff psi in front end tires. Has anyone replaced all of the front end with a nonMJ front end since it must be a design flaw
  17. Wow JD, that your masterpiece? You break loyalties and go to Chevy?
  18. Well hellsbellz JD, I was going to get you to install it for me.
  19. What would 100% be? 65mph? Put on some balloon tires and float through NC
  20. Didn't know about those. I will look for them out of curiosity.
  21. I am going for a top mount. I just need to figure out the best way to do it. Top mount, yep.
  22. bad_idea, my knee jerk reaction is not to go through the roof, but a lot depends on the range of answers that guys post here. Stainless steel, if it polished up as high as you indicate would be a good idea. The Navy keeps coming up with new alloys that weather better than ss. Not sure what fabricators are using now for premium metals (above steel). Was Pasqutank county flooded? FYI, if you had an estimated tax payment or business tax returns due Monday, the IRS has granted until January 31, 2019 for you to file or pay.
  23. Did you drill through the curve of the roof or to the thicker column? Two issues concern me about drilling through the roof. Leaks of course. The second is if there is enough integrity in the roof sheet metal to stand a lot of stress from wind motion rocking the large horn up and down. I am curious to see what multiple metal guys offer for opinions and suggestions.
  24. That washer looks like it is metal with neoprene glued to one side. Correct? By posting the washer, you are tacitly stating that you would drill through the roof instead of some other method? Would those washers be found at Lowes or an auto parts store?
