  1. Does anyone know what the unused spots on the dashboard were intended for? See above.
  2. Pete sure keeps us entertained the way he puts ideas and words together.
  3. I wonder what all Pete can do with a blue tooth dongle
  4. Anyone installed any new equipment recently?
  5. I recall the 8 track tape players and cartridges from the 60's but I do not recall cassettes from back them. Ancient history now.
  6. Wahoo you have done a lot. Are you sure you do not have transmission fluid leak? If it leaks onto some of the exhaust system, it can produce a crazy amount of smoke like there is a fire.
  7. I had a 95 Grand Cherokee that came with a cassette player. Didn't think cd players came until later
  8. Thanks for the imformation and pics. HOrnbrod, is the temperature guage (showing 67 degress) something offerred by Jeep back then? I have wondered what was intended/offerred for some of the 5 slots on each side of the steering wheel. Pete, i notice one block the size of 3. I have not seen that before. Anyone know what they would all be for? While at it what are the 4 rectangular blanks below the steering column intended for. On 87MJ, the left most one is broken out. Don't know if it was a light or a switch. The other 3 are blanks. All 4 on 89 are blanks. Both 4.0s, 5 speed. 2wd.
  9. No one has a radio he likes? Recomendations welcome
  10. I purchased Michelin Defender LTX All Season Tires on Saturday from Costco. Ordered and arrived on Monday. 215/75/100T ORWL MSPN 98415 70,000 mile warranty. I have had good success with Michelin and Costco over many years. They rotate and service tires for free over the life of tires. Nitrogen fill is included new. If you ever add regular air, they will empty it and refill with Nitrogen free. Nitrogen does not expand much as it heats up on a hot road and theoretically results in more even tire wear.. Balanced, 6% sales tax, $70 off sale with the purchase of 4. $573.24. Very smooth ride. Very satisfied. No off roading. Minor snow here.
  11. Laughing. Yeah it has mental problems. I will send it and my exwife out to you.
  12. The link states that the radio is no longer available
  13. That radio fit ok without having to move anything? Did you have to take the dash apart?
  14. I thought that proud truck had ever option offered by Jeep and then some.
  15. Minuit, after looking at your post and pictures I took another look at the radio. The painted labels at the controls are white. It is the same top radio that you picture above (without the tape player). I have not messed with the radio in over a year. Low and behold, it now works. No sound out of the left front speaker but that could be a bad speaker or wire. The screen does not light up. Is there a separate fuse for that? I previously was not aware that the power/fader knob punches in and out to to control the left to right fader and the front to back fader. The larger outer button in broken but works. The sound is less than glorious. What does the DX button do? Is that an online operators manual for that radio?
  16. Minuit, after reading your comment about white or brown buttons, I had to go look right away to see which it had. You solved another issue. The radio has Jeep on it but has neither white nor bron controls on it. All black. The plastic around it is cracked/broken. Someone must have replaced the radio already (with a Jeep radio). I won't repair it if not original to MJ. It did fit though. Someone that saw the MJ and commented on it said it was the original Jeep radio. He said that he had 16 different Jeeps over time.
  17. 89 MJ has original radio. Powers on but can't switch it from AM to FM. Any suggestions for a radio that fits and fills the slot in the dashboard and sounds decent? Anyone know what the original radios would sound like if repaired? I replaced a grand cherokee radio and it received stronger/more distant signals. Probably the case with old MJ radios.
  18. Has no one made tail lights with a three D printer yet? Seems like it would be easier than making a gun, which i am sure you saw on the news. A mechanic that I use asked me about it yesterday. He said Costco has a three D printer for $1200.
  19. Eagle, there is significance to the clutch engaging when pedal is close to floor? It is a little funky going from one MJ to the other.
  20. Markings are not even a little bit readable on the edge of the driver's side doors. There is no slippage or leaks on either the 87 or 89. The 87 has a horizontal gear shift handle with finger notches with Hurst written on it but I doubt there is more than the handle. A bit of interesting Hurst history is copied and pasted. By the early 1960s, Hurst transmission shifters and other products had become legendary in auto racing, particularly in drag racing, and among custom car makers. Many automobile enthusiasts replaced flimsy factory shifters (and steering column shifters, as well) with Hurst floor shifters to obtain better control of gear selection, particularly for competitive driving.[4] As automotive historian Mike Mueller noted, "If you didn't have a Hurst shifter in your supercar, you were a mild-mannered loser."[4] General Motors' official policy up to that time had prohibited the use of the names of outside vendors on GM products. Pontiac Division manager Elliot "Pete" Estes convinced the corporation that having the Hurst name on its cars' shifters would be an effective sales tool. Various Pontiac models had already been equipped with Hurst shifters from the factory, but the Hurst name did not actually appear on Pontiac shifters until 1965. Hurst's shifters were so good that U.S. automakers were forced to offer Hurst branded gear sticks on their muscle car models, although at the time they preferred manufacturing their own parts rather than outsourcing.[4]
  21. I have an 87 (200K miles) and an 89 MJ (76K miles). Both are 4.0s and 5 speeds. On the 89, the clutch engages near the top of the clutch swing. The 87 engages near the bottom and the pedal is spongy above full engagement. Neither has any slippage. Based on appearances, neither clutch master cylinder or slave have been replaced or worked on in years. I could not find what I was looking for in CC search so found this by using google. This relatively short thread is more than 10 and a half years old. I know of the corrosiveness of dot 3 on the fuse panel. Is the rest of the info still current? No clutch adjustment? Many of the links no longer work. What is current with fluids?
  22. It looks like you are using the best components. How bad is the noise from the ARB with the windows up? Not an inexpensive item. Wood grain dash and steering wheel match up nicely.
  23. You can't hold a good man back!. Kudos for things well done.
  24. Very nice build. Those fender flairs look nice and should be a great solution to wide tires. Do they do a good job of keeping mud and road grime off the side of the truck? What made you remove and replace the bushwackers that were already there?
  25. You have sucessfully managed to put a whole lot of engine under the hood of a not large truck. A relative worked in the tech center for GM testing prototypes. He moved to the marine division of GM and was a liason with owners of boat manufacturers. Vette engines were sold by GM. That engine looks very different from the humble MJ ones. When you might get around to showing us more, if you have an annotated diagram of the components, post that for us too. There is much talent here. Chances are they can tap in to anything you might be missing. I happen to love the annotated diagrams they come up with. Tell us about the smaller window in the doors. I can't quite tell what you accomplished. Replace it with metal for strength? Where did you install two 5 gallon air tanks?
