At scrap yard now.
Manche757 replied to ftpiercecracker1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not settled with him yet. Will drop off the 89 when he finishes with the 87. Per phone, he said $1,875 which includes the heater core. Very satisfied with that amount. FYI someone, probably last fall, posted that he found parts online for $695 or there about. You might want to scout that out if you are wanting to do the install yourself. Keep on truckin' -

Wounded Fighter asked: What's the factory ac suppose to look like? Ran into that as a question on my unit, couldn't tell offhand. As Eagle indicated, the dashboard control is a first place to look Also see if you have the hoses that run to the compressor. Someone might have removed a bad compressor thinking that it was reducing gas mileage but hopefully it is still there. Easier to follow replacing equipment than installing new. The alternative to factory air would be "vintage" ac which is used when an older vehicle might not have had ac available at all; pre 1960 etc. It is an easier install and comes with its own controls. It is mounted under the dash and is fully visible. Not as sexy looking, but it sure beats melting. Just had factory ac totally replaced using all new equipment on the 87 shown in the picture that did have ac originally. I was concerned about the cooling capacity so the mechanic installed an oversized evaporator. I have not picked up the vehicle yet but mechanic said it works great. It took a loooonnnng time to get it completed. Had new heater core installed while the mechanic was there, since it is a b*@ch to get to. This week I will take in an 89, that never had ac at all, to have factory ac installed. If you are contemplating that, the box containing the heater core was not large enough to hold both the heater core and the ac evaporator core, if the MJ did not have ac in the beginning. That box is not available new. Beware the XJ box is a little different and there is a problem with the new MJ evaporator fitting the XJ box. New heater core to be installed for same reason noted above. Hope that helps -

Kudos to Ronnie for original post 2013. I looked today in a local Walmart and did not find them. I looked online and did find them at Target. The online price this morning was $12.29. I bought 2 for 87 and 89 MJs. They were ready for pick up at store in two hours. The local Target had them on hand for $19.99. Glad I bought online and no shipping charge.

"bama's (aka HOornbrod) original post is 6 years old now. Is the 97 XJ still the go to? Newer? Can be found new? Will they work on both an '87 and an "89 MJ? I assume the blades from the 97 are the size to buy? Great solution to worn pins! -
If the glass is curved will one piece still be readily available? Will the track be used at all or will the glass be glued to the body? Will glass company supply new gasket/seal? Old frame and glass discarded?

I would like to replace the rear window with one solid piece of glass. Does anyone know where I might find it? This is the only replacement window that I have found. Anyone have experience with it? https://www.carid.com/cr-laurence/sliding-window-mpn-edv700s.html?singleid=78783648&url=88482808 Past CC forums indicate the gasket is hard to find, even used. Does anyone have experience with this? https://www.carid.com/1989-jeep-comanche-window-components/omix-ada-window-seal-286627562.html

Battery over heating and dies after 4 kms
Manche757 replied to Myles Cyncora's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Myles, you might have a bad starter relay. A $20 part or so. if you no longer have the serious short melting the cable and otherwise overheating, you might have something draining the battery when the ignition is in off position but is worn and not actually off. You might find this of interest: -
Left headlights on a few times. Dead Batt
Manche757 replied to Manche757's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Virginia law requires headlights to be on when wipers are on. Sun comes out and you know the rest. Leave early morn with lights on, arrive later with the sun out also. Thanks for the great info -

Parking Brake Release Cable & Handle

One of those is more than 8 ft long and the other is more than 4 ft long. The cable I am looking for is less than a foot long. -
Parking Brake Release Cable & Handle

Thanks to you both but that parking brake assemble is for a CJ and will not fit an MJ per the seller. The part I am looking for retails new between $14 and $15 dollars. I just need the release cable, not the entire mechanism -
Battery over heating and dies after 4 kms
Manche757 replied to Myles Cyncora's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
35 years ago, i had a battery boil acid out of top of battery. Head lights dim. Car left on side of road. Took a mechanic over to car next day. Without saying anything he slide under engine. Was under car less than a minute and then he was standing next to me. He said start it. I was confused but tried and it started as if nothing was ever wrong with it. He said the end of the battery cable attached to the starter was touching the frame. He rotated so it was not touching frame. The cable had moved by itself from road moment and bumps. Check to see if cable is grounding anywhere. -

Thanks Jason -
Does anyone know where to get a new parking brake release cable & handle. After searching CC, I do not see that it has been dealt with recently and some of the links offered no longer are active. It is a discontinued part for Mopar but the part number is 52000861.

How to find out which model I have
Manche757 replied to Manche757's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for that. I will have to look and see. Do you an opinion about which is better? Does it make a difference? Diff question: CARFx shows the original titling in 1989 and then retitled in 3013 to same owner when he moved to a diff state. (Then sold to a new car dealership and then to an independent used car dealership and then to me.) I believe I am the second owner. Do you know if CARFx shows all titling or is it likely to be spotty? Any other source to trace ownership? s/b 2013 but you know that -

Vin number for the 89 is; 1J7FT36L4KL436210 A data base used by a State Farm agent shows it to be a 1990 but a 2013 North Carolina title and car CARFx show it to be a 1989. Trying to find out the model
