  1. Want to trade the Liberty for one? I can arrange shipping through Uncle Sam.
  2. Spray ALL the connections in the truck with electrical contact cleaner before throwing a CPS at it. You might save some $$$!
  3. Someone showed me a 4 cyl in a Dakota that had 2.4L on the emission tag. Didn't look like the Jeep motor so I assumed it was the same motor used in Caravans.
  4. My '87 shortbed came with a swaybar (someone swiped the D44 before I got it) I tossed it when I did the SOA. Didn't think they were anything special? (I'm using the spring plates to mount my shocks on)
  5. Mine was $85 to my doorstep (it's awaiting time for me to put it into my J10. It is shaped just different enough not to work in my MJ with the OEM front pipe)
  6. I used the original cables, but rerouted the upper part slightly so it didn't hit the exhaust
  7. It depends which 3.8L you get. The 229 is Chev V8 patterned. The 231 is BOP patterned. Gotta watch out for that as neither have 60 degree.
  8. He just meant the bell pattern. The 2.4 is a Chrysler motor. The 2.5 is the Jeep engine. The AX15 bell from a Dakota is the holy grail for TJ owners right now so they are getting harder to find.
  9. 6 inch lift
  10. Most of the time you only need the oring seal kit and a can of BG's 44K in the tank to fix the TBI injectors. (or a bottle of CD2 Maximum Fuel Economy, but it seemed to go away @2002. I tried to save as many as I could. It got my '86 MJ 25-30 mpg average on the trip to Ouray in '02 with a 6,000lb gross weight, 3" lift and alignment knocked out of whack by a delivery truck in CO.
  11. Use the correct flexplate/flywheel. 360 and 304 are slightly different balancing. (360 takes more) Don't use a 4 bbl intake meant for the 304 on the 360 (SP2P especially) If you are dealing with a TH400 to 727 trans, the flexplates are different AND the TH400 required a thin sleeve in the crank pilot hole. If you bolt the 727 up to it with the sleeve still in there (about the size/thickness of a speedi sleeve) you WILL punch the front pump of the 727! It'll run maybe a week tops before it self destructs. (I see that a lot on FSJs when people put '79 and older motors into '80 and newer rigs)
  12. Just a short note: The front frame horns were NOT built for leaf spring attachment. They don't have the weight capacity.
  13. I would check the shift linkage first (does it actually go into park?) Then check the torque converter bolts (see if they fell out) Maybe the tcase was bumped into neutral? (I bought one like that)
  14. NAPA sells the bottle with a new lid too, but I say chuck the sucker and put in a '91 rad with new heater hoses. I had a valve kicking around I hooked up for the flow on/off and it was easy. Don't forget a rad cap!
  15. Just a little word of wisdom here: Only use Castrol GTLMA brake fluid if possible. The low moisture absorption helps a lot and the fluid is formulated to NOT attack the regular rubber seals in these (yes, they are natural rubber. The early ones had this requirement written on the fill lid) This from a guy who started out working on British cars.
  16. 2 different gear ratios can bind the case and not allow it to un-shift.
  17. For an upgrade, get the 4 bolt box from an FSJ or full size '70's GM car. (casting #76 in them) Just make sure you get one with O-ring lines or you'll need a custom PS hose. It comes with an already dropped arm.
  18. The stripping is pretty good around here on the XJ 4 doors and that'll fit. I used some on my '73 J4000 to stop the wind noise and freezing drafts!
  19. Check the fuel filter first. Then check the TPS and Map sensors. After that, spray ALL the underhood connectors with electronic cleaner. Oh, one last thing: You cat's guts may be corking the muffler. (mine did that while cruising at 70. Couldn't go over 15 mph after that and I was on a 70 mph highway with no exits for 5 miles! I had to take a hammer and pound my muffler to pieces then it went like a rocket!)
  20. I had a set of 6" leaves made up for mine in Canada for $350 the pair.
  21. Do you have a dent in the passenger's side of the bumper? That's where the vacuum reservoir is (stupid design!) The other is the vacuum "motor" right above the gas pedal has the hose come off when you push your foot up too high.
  22. Fit yes, but unless the connector is the same, it won't work.
  23. Instead of an AX15/NP231, check out the AX15/NP208J I have.
  24. You can pop out the windshield and use vinyl paint on the dash. I don't understand why people think the whole interior needs to be just one color? Don't they know about black/red contrast?
  25. You can put an AX-15 behind the 2.5L with the bell from a 2.5L 4 cyl Dodge Dakota with AX15. You can also use any trans behind a Chev 2.8L (like used in S10s) but you'll need to make a hole for the CPS if you're not carbureted.
