If it's the mag I think it is, it was FSJ magazine (the only one dedicated to full size Jeeps) taken over by some yuppies. I canceled my subscription.

It's the same axle, only without the vacuum crap. It's the tcase that engages 4x4. The axle disco was a feeble attempt at saving fuel.

You have to make sure there are NO spaces between the {img}and{/img} like {img}http://images20.fotki.com/v382/free/cb025/1/10323/4339569/DSC02288-vi.jpg {/img} For some reason cutting and pasting is adding a space.

I got a 2 week warning, then mine ate the rad and fan belt.

Guess I was wrong on that one (didn't read close enough and I wasn't there to personally check it) I wonder if the tcase shifter fork broke and it's stuck in low and high at the same time? If you move the tcase shifter to neutral, it will disconnect the front one at the very least. How about lifting one rear tire to see if it spins both ways? (try with tcase in high and neutral)

Oil filter, which one does this use?
carnuck replied to rocketwheels's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Fram filters are loosely tied element inside a can. I opened the one up from my '73 J4000 (came on the 304) and it was collapsed, blocking the oil flow so the motor clattered badly. The one I took out of my Ford van imploded and CHUNKS of the filter medium are stuck inside the oil passages of the 460 motor! (I get no oil pressure reading at the factory or mechanical gauge with a brand new pump and the lifters are starting to collapse from lack of oil) Now I have to take off the Wix filter on it and take out the oil pressure sender to see if I can blow the clog out with air pressure! -
My rebuild (some humongo pics)

I'd drop the gear ratio down a notch for more power. To retard the timing (knock sensor controls a lot of that) you can slot the CPS mount and move the sensor slightly. Is this a fresh motor? If so, the power won't come up till the motor is broken in. Too bad you went with another 904 trans as they are power/fuel robbers. The later models ran AW4 with 4 cyl (starting late '88 I think) and the '94 YJ 4 cyl I had was a plastic cover engine (I was surprised because it didn't look like plastic) I stuck that motor into an '84 XJ but sold it when I sold my house before the EFI was installed. -
Don't feel like reading. US government? Don't see why they'd close it off for US citizen use then. Just like they don't block off area 51 and all military bases?

You haven't been paying attention! READ what it says! The gov't ALREADY owns all the land needed!

Sarge is coming together slowly

Is it in Chilliwack? I may know the guy. Check back before the end of this month as he has a tax bill due. -
Take the starter off and give it a push start (with the battery cables taped back to prevent shorts) and see if the noise went away. Has it run since the motor was changed? If not, the later HO flywheel is different than the Renix one (HO flywheel won't operate the Renix EFI system). So is the starter after '95. The CPS may have come loose or been bent during engine install. Then of course there is always the "oops I dropped a bolt. Oh well, it won't hurt!" or a missing flywheel bolt rattling around inside.

If the power has dropped, your cat may have imploded and puked it's innards into the muffler, making a darn good clog to power and exhaust output. I gutted mine after I dropped to only being able to drive 55 mph and that cured it! Run Chevron Delo 15W40 (and stock up on the regular non-low sulphur stuff if it's still available in your area)

http://zmjeeps.com for a Chev HEI conversion for AMC V8s. (I'm doing the 6 cyl HEI swap for my '82 AMC Spirit) Edelbrock makes aluminum heads, intake and EFI for AMC V8s now (more for racing than offroading and NOT for fuel economy! ) I like the 2 bbl or an SP2P 4 bbl with TBI from a GM on 304s (I run the 2100 Motorcraft on my '73 J4000 and haul 6500 lb payloads) It depends on what you want for it. I would run the 4.0 before doing a V8 conversion. I have a 4.6L stroker awaiting assembly to go into my truck. Then I can unleash all 300 ponies under the hood! :redneck:

Fram has been the death of at least 12 AMC motors I personally know of in the past year. (definitely stay away from PH11!) I think (WIX made) NAPA 1626 is the early filter and 1085 in the later metric one. That's the Gold series at NAPA and the 9xxx is Nascar (aka spinflow) and 2xxxx is Silver series (about equivalent to Fram's mid grade filter) -
Harmonic balancer about to fly apart is another noise they make like that.

I like mine better (will be much nicer once I find an M715 extended frame or use the IH 2 ton frame I got free to put my flatdeck and this drivetrain into) Image Not Found I loaded one vehicle on the back (with my engine hoist) and another on the towdolly.

I want to take a 2dr Cherokee and graft the front 1/2 up to the B pillar onto a Comanche to get more interior room!

School me on (bedless) Comanche's

Why not go 5.5" front lift with rear SOA and run 33/9.50/15s? (apparently swamper also makes a 36/10/15 now) -
Muahhahha! It's amazing people think that way when there is a TON of aftermarket stuff for AMC motors. I have a 4.6L AMC 6 stroker pushing 300 hp and 350 ft lbs of torque to put into my rig with almost stock other stuff. (mixing and matching tcases, axles etc to handle the power)

I have a Nash 327 with TH400 and Quadratrac I thought about putting into the '86 Longbox (too many other projects) Also thought it would be super cool to do a 304 punched with 4.0L pistons and LPG. (with a 727/NP208J combo to keep it all Jeep!)
