  1. They are called Vatozone around here. (the Mexicans got it right too! Vato means "know nothing")

    carpet for my MJ

Check 4 dr XJs. That's what I did for mine
  3. I used vise grips before I got the right socket for mine! (but they are old school round jaw 10" and still grip almost like new, even after 30 years of wrenching)
  4. Put in a '91 + XJ rad and eliminate the bottle and rubbish in the heater system except the on/off valve (you can even run without that till spring)
  5. Oval is D35. Round is M20. Stops sign (sorta) shape is D44 (looks like a bigger brother to the front diff) and I forget the Mopar shape other than the tubes are HUGE (I recently got one for the Eagle I am building. The hubs on it are already spinning)
  6. Easily, yes. Expen$ive, you bet! $1500 new or $900 used here all day long (with the Canadian dollar being up, now is a good time to buy too!)
  7. Nice build, but isn't the SD33T 3.3L?
  8. For an '87 MJ. Used is OK. It's a starter project.

    1982 J10

I have some cheaper ones, but they need work and they are on the west coast!
  10. My bad. I thought that was only on the J30 Nope. J30 and M715 came with Dana 70 rear and D60 closed knuckle front.
  11. And Dana 60! I have a matching pair from a '76 (but they are RH drop) I think they are 4.56 gears (haven't pulled the covers to see if they match the tags)
  12. Just for fun
  13. Locktite or rethread the hole and put a larger one in
  14. I use exhaust cement the second time or if I think the manifold might be warped. Ain't no third time fixing one yet in 30+ years!
  15. Put really low profile tires on it and it'll be fine! (smaller tires are like lowering your gear ratio)
  16. If you can find the wire that turns the light on, there is a switch on the trans that grounds when in different gears.
  17. Found an '86 with 2.8 V6 that I am going to take the front off and graft a 2 DR XJ body up to the B pillar on. My '87 is nice, but being 6' tall and 300 lbs keeps me cramped in on long trips now. Probably won't start till February (once the snow goes away at my cabin)
  18. Brembo are good, but come in regular and performance versions.
  19. If I get a chance to take some pics of them over Christmas (I live in the US now and have 3 of them here)
  20. This, I just do not understand. How does running your engine farther up the power band (where more HP is produced) reduce the power output :hmm: It does make sense you felt the deeper gears reduced in less top end since you are used to the engine running at a lower RPM and did not want to run it consistently higher. (As described in Eagle's post). Deeper gears can result in decreased fuel economy but the usable power elsewhere out-weighs the MPG issue. 4.10's and 33's proved to be too sluggish in my TJ. Pull a trailer and it was worse... throw in a headwind and kiss 5th good bye. Try and pull the whole set up over Vail Pass and kiss 4th, maybe 3rd gear good bye. The optimum gear ratio for a vehicle is directly related to what the owner wants out of their rig. Gearing and fuel system changed between Renix and HO. The '87 was set up to torque off the line and quit by @2700 RPM. Injectors are smaller and the cam is the same, BUT the cam timing is dialed 10 degrees more advanced than the HO (which is how they got rid of the knock sensor and EGR valve) HO is dialed to go to 3500 RPM before dropping off. I pull load and drive the highway to and from work. I couldn't hit 65 MPH (motor couldn't intake enough air to get to speed) when I put the 4.10s in.
  21. Nothing like REAL Gladiators! My latest '82 Honcho (360/T18A/NP208 from it are for sale. It's getting my 304/AX-15/NP208) My long term mini monster truck '84 J10 with 1 ton axles (4.6L stroker AW4/NV241 OR) '76 J10 shortbox with J20 axles (currently parting/selling as project) Image Not Found '83 J10 long box I'm parting (currently 4.2L AW4 NP208) Image Not Found RIP '73 J4000 Image Not Found
  22. Try a can of STP engine oil treatment in the trans. I get a year or more out of "dead" automatics that way!
  23. stickshifts? for the 4.0 : AX-15 : late 89-99 for the 2.5 : AX-5 : all years the engines have different bolt patterns Actually, in XJ 84/85 could have a T4 or T5 as an option (tow package) I've only seen 2. T5 is also a possible swap on the 6 (had one in my '83 J10. Not strong enough for a big truck!) I now have a T18A/NP208 in my '82 Honcho I'm pulling to swap in a 304/AX-15 (till I can get a Dodge NV6550 for towing my 5th wheel)
  24. NAPA sells them too, but you can toss them by replacing the rad with a '91 up XJ rad and put on regular heater hoses. If your rad says it was made by Blackstone, it's probably 80% clogged (or worse) by now anyways!
