  1. AX5 is in a number of other Jeeps too. XJs, YJs and a few Eagles ('83-85 with 4 cyl only)
  2. I plan to use a commercial handle to make my tailgate locking.
  3. more HP usually equals less MPG. I like the Renix system, but you'll have to undo the harness from the XJ and swap ALL of it (including under the dash where the computer lives) for it to work. I don't know if the connector for the tail lights is compatible. Your 2.5L TBI is already Renix. 4 cyl axles will give you a good ratio for putting on taller tires and still getting 17 mpg or so.
  4. Long distance, drop the driveshaft. 50 miles or less, flat tow in 2wd or towbar. (my cabin is 50 miles away and I have towed mine numerous times, depending on my home parking area)
  5. This one needs so much work (and I'm still unemployed) that I'm tempted to put it up for $3,000 with the spare body parts I have.
  6. Mount it on the kickpanel MJ style!
  7. A: Remove AX4 speed. B: Install AX5 speed. Easy Peasy! C: Later wish you'd found a Dakota with 2.5L to get the AX-15 bell and clutch from for an upgrade!
  8. And blinker fluid as well as muffler bearings!
  9. It's still pretty easily done if you can solder.
  10. My '87 is sort of in between. All the basics are done (6" lift in front done right, SOA, 33/9.50/15 tires, brake upgrades) and I have it posted for $3,000 obo. The project extend-a-cab is considerably less, but I can get $500 for it at the local pick-n-pull (I got $400 for the '86 4x4 with dead 2.8 V6 sitting in the box and this '89 is 4.0L auto)
  11. I have 33/9.50/15s and I have locked them up in the rain at 50-70 mph and it wasn't fun! (fortunately I have lots of practice over the years at doing bootleg Uturns so I knew how to handle it)
  12. http://www.huskytow.com/Products.aspx
  13. I'm soooo glad not to be sick all the time now! I would've had my bad teeth pulled a couple years ago if the dentist I had back then was more interested in my health than making money from fixing my bad teeth as they were killing me! Still not quite up to par (I get pretty tired after only 4-5 hours labor now)
  14. I'm hoping there are no wire crossups from '87 to '90. I just unplugged it at the firewall from the '90 and plugged it into mine, and fished the trans connector through the firewall.
  15. 4.0L weighs about 65lbs more than 2.5 (I can lift a complete block and carry it, but not a longblock)
  16. Who is on ignore? Me?
  17. I think that even newer models (on WJs) went back to single coil per plug setup. Might want to check into that.
  18. Sounds like the cable maybe bad
  19. You guys are wussies! I had a storm hit in '78 and it hung around a long time then took off with my house, cars and everything! I call it "Hurricane Diana" after my ex-wife.
  20. If the pedal arm is slightly bent it will push the master in at an angle that wears them out in a hurry (also makes it hard to bleed!)
  21. I think it may be the same assembly as my Eagle I parted. When I work on the stuff at my cabin I'll try to remember to compare them.
  22. I picked up and loaded my son's '90 2.5L complete with flywheel and put it in the back of my '82 Chev. I'd say about 250 lbs. I can't lift 500 like I used to!
  23. Probably someone on here selling it. I paid $600 for the '89 longbed I bought and it wasn't complete (grill and rad missing. Motor swapped in doesn't run, pass door gone and bed nearly shot from scrap hauling damage) I got it because it had the tilt column auto shift I wanted with gauge package and I can convert it to 4x4 and extend the cab later.
  24. 1-800-radiator (out here it's Moose radiator) I think they have a NAXJA group discount. (forgot the name of energy drink in aluminum) bottle makes a fine overflow bottle too!
