Headlight harness upgrade
mikekaz1 replied to Sir Jacob the 2nd's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the old plug is in the mix still because that is whats used to open and close the relay. 85/86 on a relay is the activation coil. setting it up like this allows you t still use the factory headlight switch to control the headlights while still removing the load from the switch. -

How does the stuff handle getting wet though? Its water based so I'm guessing not a great idea if you have leaks or do off roading around bodies of water water based only matters when initially wet. once it dries its the same as oil based. most vehicles made...painted now use water based lacquers.

Weird Issues With Dana 30 In The Front....
mikekaz1 replied to BootsNTrucks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
He is remembering incorrectly. Jeep never offered a limited slip in the front Dana 30. Not in the XJ, not in the MJ, not in the ZJ. Maybe his dealership was installing them as a dealer option, but it was not a factory option. I think a front limited slip would create some real handling problems in snow or ice. grand cherokee WJs with quadratrac came with front and rear limited slip Really? He is remembering incorrectly. Open diff's, computer pulses the brakes to transfer power to select tires based on wheel speed. (Wheel speed sensors at each corner) my bad... quadra drive. not trac. same difference though -

for your speedo to work properly you will have to use your factory original sending unit. if I'm not mistaken

got the back rack mounted up. rack was part number 10313 listed for a 1996-03 DODGE DAKOTA 1997-03 TOYOTA TACOMA and the mounts were 92001 tonneau adapter slightly modified to allow me to still use my tool box. overall the fit is pretty good. the side hoops sit a little high but the top cross bar with the tonneau adapter goes perfectly around my cargo light and sits about 1/4" higher then the cab. if you don't have a cargo lamp the standard mounts will work fine. and the adapter brackets not needed. but with the cargo lamp the bar ran right across the lamp, effectively making it useless.

no I did not have the factory quad wiring. i just too that opportunity to wire a HD relay setup. if you do have the factory harness, and its intact with the plug for the drivers side harness. it should be 100% plug and play -
ahhh I'm going to guess its because of the 86 crossover year. you must have a very early 1987. the late 87 and on all had a passenger side fender mounted hood prop. yours appears to be header mounted and must use the older style header still, the newer style did not have the reversed mounting stud. I wouldn't even bother putting the nut back on on reassembly.

I think this one was specifically a 87. but all 86-90wagoneer headers are the same. lighting is just as good as the single headlight, wattage is all the same, just lenses themselves are smaller. but no issue seeing at night whatsoever. wiring the quad lights just involves separating the factory 3 prong plug and wiring high beam power to one light and low beam power to the other. maybe 5 minutes of work. -
personally I keep that agle brackwt on theheader as they tend to be easier to take out of the raditor support and negates the risk if cracking the fiberglass studs

the top one looks like it was snapped off. not uncommon.

Judging by the column and wheel. Id bank it at 88-90. Gm cylinder with the round jeep horn with the allen heads.
