Three things on my list of gear grinds: -people not shutting cabinets in the kitchen after retrieving a cup/plate/whatever. :fs2: -bicyclists that ride in packs three wide like its the tour-de-france that clog up an entire lane of a two lane road despite having their own lane to ride in. :fs1: -coming out of a store only to find the car next to you parked less than a foot from your drivers side door while you were inside, causing you to have to climb in from the passenger side.

New Comanche w/ Some Issues
AMCJeepMJ replied to RockMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For my missing [at the time] wiper relay, I just hit up the local salvage yard and got a handful of them for $5. They were cheap, and easy to pull out of salvage XJs. Best of luck on your new rig! -
Today's the first actually warm day here in a month. May get to 90 if I keep my fingers uncrossed. Low humidity helps too. I see 45 of the lower 48 are hitting 100 degrees again today. Great summer so far here!... haven't hit 100 yet all summer. :chillin: Which leads me to ask: how do you 100+ degree folks cope with the heat to get any wrenching done?

:hijack: Out of curiosity, what age does one change from 'young kid' to 'old fart'? Is it a slow transition, or is it a puff-of-smoke-and-flash-of-light change? /still want to see bed-mounted radiator pics.

yeah sorry about that... I think it was just the asking price is why it hadn't sold. Things are pretty lean in this part of the state.
-
Did I call it, or did I call it. That's a nice rig; I've seen it in person in Bend. Its been on the local CL for months. Hope you enjoy it!

Relocate the radiator to the bed? Did I read that right? If you do it, I insist upon pictures being posted.

Removal of trans/TC when engine is not in place
AMCJeepMJ replied to AMCJeepMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok, the tranny and TC are out. The method used was the 4by method. Took a while, but it did the trick well. The worst part was getting the 8 bolts for the crossmember off, as they seem to never have been off before today... had to use a breaker bar. Thank you 64 Cheyenne for the wood suggestion! -
Removal of trans/TC when engine is not in place
AMCJeepMJ replied to AMCJeepMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The jack looks like a great option. Unfortunately, I do not have an extra $80 to spare to pick it up at the moment, and I wanted to get the tranny/TC out this weekend while its not too hot out. Looks like I'll be collecting 18" sections of 4by boards and lowering the Jenga towers to get it out. Great suggestion, btw- I hadn't though of doing that to get them out out. -
So, this will be my first attempt at removing a transmission and transfer case from an MJ. I know they're both heavy. I also have a handy-dandy manual which I can refer to, but here's the delimma: The 86 has no engine in it. The transmission is still attached to the transfer case, and the rear driveshaft is still in place. The AX5 is hanging freely with the TC attached to counterbalance it on the crossmember. The manual I have shows how to remove the transmission and transfer case, but it is for the engine still being in place [removing the TC first then the transmission... which doesn't do much good for this situation]. If I remove the TC the transmission will fall, possibly damaging the transmission or whatever it lands on [exhaust, my fingers, etc] as well as damaging any important wiring I may have missed disconnecting. This will also damage the bolts that hold it to the crossmember. I wish to reuse the transmission and transfer case in the future, so unbolting the crossmember and letting it all 'drop' about 18 or more is not something I wish to do [if it were going to scrap, then yes this is no problem]. I can currently pull back on the gear shift lever and make the transmission move 6 or 7 inches up and down at my whim, as the engine is not in place, to give an indication of how mobile it is. The crossmember is the fulcrum point. Suggestions? I do not have any specialty jacks or tools at my disposal- only a floor jack and some 4 by 4s, along with jack stands and hand tools.

Yeah it was way out in the sticks; ran across it by accident when trying to find my way back to civilization last week.

Amen! Testify! Go tell it on a mountain!

Niiiiiiiiice. This wouldn't happen to be the 97+ conversion MJ that is in Central Oregon, is it? http://bend.craigslist.org/cto/2475039018.html

Aftermarket Hood Insulation?
AMCJeepMJ replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Even if the engine is not running hot, it will provide sound absorption and insulation. The teamcherokee insulation is right at $75, but you will be charged for oversized shipping IIRC. -
Oil Light Question-New Question Added
AMCJeepMJ replied to huntinandhopin's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Perhaps the oil pressure switch/sensor is on its way out? Maybe the oil level is overfilled causing the oil to foam and make the sensor think its low on oil? Personal anecdotes regarding the two above from previously owned vehicles: -My 93 Accord had its oil pressure switch fail, causing the oil lamp on the dash to flicker and stay on. Solution: replace the switch. -My 90 Justy was overfilled by the troglodytes at WalMart which caused the oil to foam and the light to come on. Solution: drain the oil and refill to correct level. -
Great junkyard find! If you can't buy it outright, then strip every little thing off that may be of the slightest value to an MJ owner such as yourself. Should probably take a sawzall and a handful of blades and cut out the cab corners if they're not rusty in case of any future incident. I expect to see pics of an empty hulk sitting in the dirt by the time you're done. ;) Side note: I wonder why the headlights are broken out but not the windows.

This is the first thing I thought of when I read it... watch til 1:40.

Is this a repeat from last September? http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/dpp/news/chrysler-auto-workers-busted_20100923_dk

I turned mine in to the local steel recyclers. They were offering $0.70/pound for aluminum [$0.06/pound for steel or $120/ton], and turned in 3 full sets of wheels which came to about 210 pounds... or $147.

I bet the property owners or city streets crew love replacing speed bumps that are damaged from being hit so fast.
-
I was referring to the black Ferrari- only 300 or so 16Ms were made- they are the 'spider' version of a Scuderia.
-
Ah, the 16M. A rare bird- only 300 made worldwide IIRC. I'm surprised the owner didn't have a velvet rope around it.

FWIW, here's pics of the front and rear springs: Since the 86 is a parts truck for the 87, will the 86's long bed leaf springs fit on the 87 short bed?

How to cut MJ in half to make trailer out of bed?
AMCJeepMJ replied to AMCJeepMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I will let the pics do the talking, pretty much in the condition I got it in: It's had it. Pics don't show the accident damage. Its a 2.8, and the wiring is hacked up and good portions missing.
