  1. Yella, Texas is BIG. From where I am, it's a 12hr drive to Dallas. In my corner of the world, MJ's just weren't very popular, I guess. I'm in far, far West Texas. The good thibg is that the weather out here is so dry, you'rr pretty much guatanteed a rust free vehicle.
  2. Hello all. I was talking to my brother the other day, and, while he is still very much a car guy, he's been once again bitten by the Jeep bug. We've been looking high and low for a suitable MJ for him (he loves driving mine), but have come up empty handed. He's probably going to get himself a XJ, to be honest. We've been looking around, and all the XJ's we've seen have pretzeled rear springs. This is when I had an idea: Pretty soon, I'll have a set of Comanche leaves available that we can rebuild for the rear of whatever XJ he gets. The twist is: Why not make the XJ SUA? He doesn't want to go bigger than 31's, likes to camp (i.e. needs load carrying capacity), hates axle wrap, and would rather cut than lift to fit tires. How do y'all think this would work?
  3. So... I swapped out the headlight switch with a new, Borg Warner unit. The switch feels great, has smooth travel in every direction, and is generally a high quality unit. My issue continued. SO... I decided to just swap back to my old idiot-light gauge cluster. When I proceeded to pull my cluster, I found that only one of the retaining tabs on the connector going to the main gauges was attached. I popped both tabs in... and all my junk worked!!! I still swapped out the switch (What the hell, right?), and now my cluster and lights work as they should.... for the most part. I still haven't driven the MJ enough to make the temp change. Time will tell how it works.
  4. Cool deal. I need to go to S Texas and do some wheeling..
  5. ^^ Ha! That's horrible, man. True, but horrible.
  6. Nice MJ! Can't wait to see what it turns into. Where abouts in Texas are you?
  7. Every 2.8 I've heard has had bottom end knock. Just sayin'.
  8. The 2.8 is NEVER in great shape. Even new...
  9. Did you locate the leak?
  10. I suppose you could do that, provided you run 12v power back there.
  11. Cool deal. Thanks for the heads up!
  12. Here's another twist... When I dim my dash lights completely, my gauges all come back! Should I replace the switch?
  13. If it isn't one thing, it's another. lol So, I swapped speedometers between clusters today, and everything seemed to be working well until I turned on my headlights. When I did so, my turn signal indicators turned on and my ammeter, oil pressure, and fuel gauges all went dead. My temp gauge may or may not be working, as I havent driven the 'manche enough to bring it up to operating temp. The gauge DOES go all the way to the right and then back to 0 when I crank/turn the truck on. At least I know the gauge is getting juice. What do you guys think I did wrong? Oh, btw, my speedo is smooooth now!
  14. I saw them!!! Would they fit in our trucks, do you think?
  15. Cool deal. I think I'm going to go with the GS springs.I don't mind a bit of Arizona rake, to be honest. Was it the GS, or HC springs that have the military wrap?
  16. Thanks, man. That is TRULY appreciated. If you're ever down in Texas, I'm buying you a CASE of beer.
  17. Thanks for the info, sir! I recently had my alignment done. I'll check the conditions of the shims.
  18. I am waiting with baited breath. Seriously, I'm stealing SO much of your build!
  19. Cool deal. Glad you got em working.
  20. Ok, so let me get this straight: If one is installing a TJ front end with fixed arms, one needs cam bolts for proper alignment? I ask because I have a low mileage 98 TJ D30 waiting to get swapped in, and I'd hate to not have everything on hand to do the swap.
  21. Cool. Sorry, I was being dumb. Of course you can! I did, after all, pull the one I have now to adjust the mileage to match my original. I'll be giving up the trip odo, but at least it won't bounce around.
  22. Dammit! Oh well. Is it possible to swap speedos between clusters? My original one works well....
