Hello all. I want to know the difference between tube and pipe, specifically for bumpers. I am in the process of making a front winch bumper for my MJ. Now, I'll be cutting my mounting plates from 0.25" steel to match the winch plate I got from Ballistic Fab (beefy!!). My question is: Is DOM necessary for a tube bumper? The way I see it, the "wings", for lack of a better word, are there to fend off damage to the body, not necessarily serving a structural purpose. What would you guys use?

Where do you guys get 33" implement tires?!?!? A buddy of mine wants some for his XJ.

^^ This.

Or just throw in the tranny/t-case combo and not hook up the front shaft.

Temp Gauge Not... Gauging!!

Thanks! I think that's what may be happening in my situation. I bought my sending units at Oreiley's and was given the right pressure sensor. I then proceeded to look for and replace whatever was most like what was given to me. I DO have the single wire one on the head, but I also have one on the manifold. I wonder if one is redundant or serves nother purpose. Maybe it's to kick on an aux fan on a/c equipped models? -
Yep. It kind of forces your vehicle to land properly if you catch air while blasting down desert roads. The trick to it working is having a stiff front end and a soft rear, with the shocks to handle it, of course.

BTW, 5 inches is A LOT for a DD. If you plan on driving any type of distance on a regular basis with your MJ, keep it 3" and less and get your clearance by trimming. You'll thank yourself later!

Take a look at my build thread. I went from stock on 235's, to 2" on the same, to 31's on 2 inches, and finally on the same 31's with a 3" lift. This is all on the front, mind you. I LIKE Arizona rake. :)

Coolant came out when I pulled the sensor, though. The IAT is on the top side of the intake mani, right? This one was on the side. -

Damn. I'll take pics when I get back to my vehicle, but it was on the intake and it takes a two wire plug. -
Hello all. Recently, I have replaced my idiot light cluster with a cluster that includes oil pressure, ammeter, and coolant temp gauges along with a fuel gauge and the speedo. I replaced the oil pressure sending unit near the distributor and the coolant temp sensor that goes on the intake manifold under the throttle body. I have good oil pressure readings, but get nothing on the temp display. When I turn it on, it spikes all the way to the right, then settled back to 0. Any ideas on what I should be looking at? For the record, my MJ is an 87 2.5L SporTruck with an AX4. The replacement cluster came from an 88 Pioneer with a 4.0.

Good Grounding Point In The Back Of The Cab?

I ran a spare 10ga wire from the dash cluster grounding point to the back of the cab. I hid it undsr the plastic trim that runs beneath thr door opening. -

A buddy if mine has a 4.9 stroker in his XJ. He runs TWO radiators with puller fans to keep his rig cool. Remember, the more power and displacement, the more heat is generated. One V8 swap I would love to see in a XJ/MJ is the 1UZFE out of a Lexus. It's super durable (people call it the million mile motor for a reason), is relatively light, mates up to toyota boxes (should also bolt to an AX15 with some finaggling), and puts out a lot of torque. Besides, you can still tell people you're running a 4.0 without lying to them. ;) -
Cool deal! Make sure thag JK jas some stout tires, though. There's a lot of sharp rocks out there. My KM2's took quite the beating laat time I went out there.

Throwing a 350/SM465 imto a Comanche is going to take a lot of time, money and effort. Sometimes having the parts available isn't a good enough reason to toss em into a vehicle. What do you see yourself doing with the MJ once the build is complete? Is a 350 going to be able to do something for you that a properly built 4.0HO or stroker WON'T do? -
Will do, Spector. Zeb, there's a PDF out there showing some ofthe mapped trails and descriptions of Big Bend. It's titled Roads to Nowhere. I'd post a link, but am currently on a mobile device. :-/

Take water, BTW. I went out to do some surveys near there last summer and it's HOT and DRY.

Crappy cell reception, TONS of dirt tracks to wheel in! I like it, but it's a few hundred miles south of me, so I go infrequently. i'm actually in SA this weekend. I'll look around for MJ's. As far as Mexico, there are a few across the border, but getting them legal if bought is kind of a pain...

I, good sir, am in El Paso. Up here, it's definately XJ country.

I actually noticed a DROP in economy when running premium in my 2.5 MJ. My 4.7 stroker ZJ pings BAD on regular. My CR is somewhere in the high 9's.

Electrical Fail!! New To Jeeps Need Help!!
benjy_26 replied to 88minibitch's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I used #2 welding cable and soldered terminals to upgrade the block, head, and body ground on my MJ. BIG difference. There is a ground junction for all your front end lights in the harness that runs behind the header panel. I opened it up, took out the crimp, ran an additional 10ga wire from the battery negative to the splice point, soldered it all together, and covered it with heat shrink. Took care of a lot of issues that were popping up with my front end lighting.- 17 replies
