$600 MJ in Northwest Ohio (FB)
Skorpyo replied to Skorpyo's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Better now? -
Great parts rig or restore base cosmetically is pretty decent looking. Trying to repost photo. MJ is listed on the Facebook group "XJ MJ Parts and Budget Builds" https://www.facebook.com/groups/453604781437098/permalink/1162582447205991/?sale_post_id=1162582447205991 Hope that works.

Pinion angle is dependent on what type of driveshaft setup you have. If you're staying with a stock slip yoke setup your pinion angle should pretty much be 0*. If you convert to a double cardan where by you eliminate the slip yoke (referred to as a Slip Yoke Eliminator SYE kit) your pinion angle should be 1-2* below what the down angle is on your T-Case output. Essentially if your T-Case output is 6* down, your pinion should be around 4-5* up.

Vakarian's Comanche 'Trailbreaker'

If you're checking in a JY and the axle is still under a vehicle you can check the door tag on an explorer and the axle code would identify what it is. Here are the codes for an explorer: 43 Open 3200 3.08 41 Open 3200 3.27 42 Open 4.10 46 Open 3.73 45 Open 3200 3.55 D4 Limited Slip 3200 3.73 D2 Limited Slip 4.10 L73 Limited Slip 3.73 Good luck! -
When setting it up make sure you note that an 8.8 pinion is NOT centered. For mine I cut a 2x4 the exact distance between the caliper mounts, then I used cross bars that were 39.5 inches apart on the outer edge since I was using 2.5" perches (which you would as well) and then placed the perches on the outer edge of the cross bars resulting in 42" on center. You can probably come up with your own method, but I found that this, though a bit painstaking, worked out perfectly.

Nice looking MJ! You've done well by her so far. Not sure if you've considered it but Ford 8.8s out of an explorer can be found with 4.10 gears a bit more easily than XJ axles. They'll require about the same amount of work to swap in since you'll need new perches on either. They're about 1.5" narrower than XJ/MJ axles, but lots of folks compensate with spacers, rims or just go with it as is. ps. I should add that the 8.8 I picked up for my MJ was only 150 after core IIRC and I had a choice of several, finally settling on one with 3.73s and disc brakes. -
Shifting gears a bit; was a November MJOTM not selected? Just curious as it's almost December. My vote still goes to @Trailhawkmj for his sweet rebuild here: If we're skipping November then I nominate him for December

Pretty sure it's not a scam, they bought it at auction and are trying to flip it for a profit, but I think they overestimated the value they would get for it. Eventually someone will buy it, but until then they're pretty much spamming CL with it since they tried eBay twice without a sale...

I managed to score a set of Rough Country adjustable control arms on CL so they went in yesterday. In the process of doing so I managed to fubar a lug stud on one of the front spacers. I'll have to pull the spacer and see if I can swap the stud for a new one but I'm not hopeful... Spotted a small gas leak near the filter that seems to be due to a loose clamp so I tightened that up while I was at it. This thing really is the project that never ends. I'm less hopeful I'll get it back home before the holidays since the shed hasn't materialized and I'm not yet done building the wife her farm table so half the garage is in woodshop mode while the other is her parking spot lol. Soon enough I suppose...

Very jealous! Wish I could find a place with a setup like that in my area that wouldn't cost $1M... Wife and I are planning to move out of the burbs as soon as we can after my son heads off to college. We'd do it sooner, but the schools in our area can't be beat. Someday I'll have the space I need to justify my 4 vehicles... Until then I'll just drool at photos of your place!

I'm planning to put mine near the rear along the frame rail where I put the union from the old brake lines to the new brake lines. I deleted the LSV when I put in an 8.8 but mainly so I would have room for a full size spare. That and it wasn't hooked up anyways. I'm also planning to put a shield piece under it so that it doesn't get covered in road spray and get ruined.

In Martinsburg, WV and he's asking 650. Some header parts are cracked. Just throwing it out there.

Concur with letting it air out for a bit before install. I laid mine out in the basement with a set of golf clubs under the hump for a week before I installed it. This eased the creases from it being folded from shipping and after that the main challenge is slowly trimming the front edge (firewall) until the hump and seat well areas lined up. Get a few carpet knife inserts for a utility knife as these were way better with trimming the mass backed carpet.

The 100$ Ram Charger, plus ferrets
Skorpyo replied to Wiggilez's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
Sweet, I love the rear windows on those things. There's an old Dodge Ram pickup in my neighborhood that has the exact same front end look on it. It's just sitting there. I'm not sure I've ever seen it move. After reading your story I thought about asking the owner if they were looking to get rid of it. My wife might kill me tho if I get another vehicle... -
He meant the link for the DIY listing contains an article on how to do it. Specifically this one:
-
At a bare minimum there should be a statement of what the site is, purpose, etc and a featured content. MJOTM is my vote, but adding on "popular topics" would be good.

Cool, hate to see those who have earned MJOTM since August get stiffed on a "Front Page" honor -

Did you ever get a photo of it out of the garage? My huskies have their winter coats now too, but we're just starting to see freezing temps at night down her in the Old Dominion. -
I think the MJOTM should be front and center, but I do like it when you can see a listing of "Hot Topics" and recent photos too. That would be cool.
