Biting the Bullet ... Time for Historic Tags
Automan2164 replied to beepbeepmyredjeep's topic in The Pub
WTF? :dunno: i don't know the real reason either. maybe if they limit it to 11 months, then you can't just plate your vehicle with hobbyist ones and drive it year round. i forgot to add, in WI you must have at least one "regular" plated vehicle in order to have a vehicle with hobbyist plates. Yet another reason I am jealous of you cheeseheads. I am moving up there as soon as I get the chance. Well, as soon as you guys boot out Walker that is. Rob :fs2: -
If this is what I think it is, its a click only when turning one way, and it only comes back when turning the other way... This drove me crazy for a week, I thought it had to be the track bar, but everything was high and tight. Turned out to be the sway bar link. ZJ's have a cup/ball link, and if it wears out, it can click in and out of the socket. Turn left and it would click out, not making a sound until I turned right and clicked back in... Until it finally let loose. So I just bent it out of the way, and will change it next oil change. Rob

Talked to the head of the archives about the Thunderchief this morning. We won't be able to see it this weekend. He said the reason we haven't been able to see it up to this point is the sheer amount of vehicles in the way of it. He's cramped for room, and its buried among hundreds of vehicles. Also, let's face it, we are most likely the only ones that know what it is, let alone asking to see it. To complicate things, a couple weeks ago they were dropped off a special project. The current project is so secret that they can't even let the corporate guys though. When I offered to be led blindfolded through the place with a hand on his shoulder until I got to it, he just laughed and told me the project is so big and involved that there is just too much of it around not to see some part of it. He did say however, that once things slow down here, he will make time to spit shine it up, take it outside into the sunlight, and get whatever we want. He said he could take pictures, measurements, even a video if we would like. Since the auction of the vehicles last year, he said they have a bit more room to stretch, and on top of that, they just had a tenant move out of their building, further helping the cramped quarters. At the Chrysler museum, you can sponsor a museum vehicle that is in storage. Unfortunately, the Thunderchief is not a museum vehicle, but a corporate one, not usually displayed in the rotation. Before I let him go, I asked about the Comanche club sponsoring it, or getting it into the rotation. He said that we couldn't sponsor it. He did say however, that if he is going to go through all the work to get it shined up and ready for us, that he would see if he could get it displayed as part of the "70 years of Jeep celebration" that the museum is putting on currently. Just got off the phone, and we are slated in for a museum tour at Noon Saturday. I made it for Saturday because we had a member who couldn't make it Sunday, and this way we can take a break from the heat/rain... The forecast don't look too good for ol' Detroit this weekend. The woman I talked to was very nice, and was very interested in our club. She told me to do a write up and include some pictures about our club/trip. She said she would love to get it into the Chrysler newsletter that comes out in December. We will have to get some good pictures! This time Friday I'll be at Pete's! Less than a week! Rob

I really like the clean crispness of the white grill and surrounds. The placement of the fog lights are perfect for that look too. Rob -

Wake up grandma! Let the kids stay up late! If this doesn't make your socks go up and down nothing will. Rob -

Friend built one out of one of my wrecked trucks. He cut it at the firewall, then cut away the cab, notched the framerails, and bent them into the tongue. Gusseted it in the right places, and called it a job. Let me add that it was a little weird that when I put the period at the end of job that I automatically entered comancheclub.com mode, and added a .com after striking the b key... Cripes. Rob

Only reason mine is for sale is the hope of getting that diesel. Interested? I know we sent a few pm's around, but I never heard back from ya. Rob

It would be easier to specify what you're looking for. I have 3 '86, 4 '87, 4 '88 and 3 '89. I don't have any '90'S. I'm keeping one '87, my DD and one '86 4wd for winter use. None of them will be over $1500. Want a '92 to bring back? I need to clear a space, and get some cash to give me any chance of picking that diesel up. You would be one of the few I would trust with it. Rob :brows:

Its not going to be just the 4 of us is it!? Anyone? :redX: Rob

I usually swear like a sailor when working on GM products. Usually swearing them off for life, and that I will never work on their junk again. Some of the crap they do is ridiculous. Just today I had to do some A/C work on an '09 Impala, and they put the service ports in stupid areas. One was under the airbox, the other was on the backside of the line, against the firewall, under the fuel lines. Of course, everything was smoking hot with the cop driving around in the blazing sun, and then takes it straight over when his a/c shut down. 475 PSI on the high side is apparently out of range for the sensor on the A/C system. I guess I'll bring the bumper... Looks like the museum is open until 5 both days. I'll ask when the Jeepiest tour guide is available. Rob :D

Of those going to Pete's, does anyone have a preference of Saturday or Sunday for the museum? I'd like to set it up in the next couple days. Rob

Make sure you get a quality unit if you don't want to be back under there within a few months. Rob  -
The only reason I didn't do a bright, flashy color was I wasn't sure how the general roughness of the fridge would turn out. I went with flat black to keep it simple. I have a set of metallic grey old style Eliminator decals I have from Neohic, they fit perfect on the sides... I also thought about stenciling the couch's Pioneer hockey sticks and duplicating them on the sides. I love the trim idea. Wade, I might take you up on the offer for the molding. Might I get that other thing you've been sitting on at the same time? You know what I mean. Don, yes, it would be a "Beer fridge" with the chrome handle, but that's too flashy for me. I like the old black worn one I pulled off the Farmer. That is a lock cylinder under the handle. For about 10 minutes, I actually thought about painting the inside black, and putting the black interior white checker on it, then I reminded myself that I am not that nuts. Now I just need to find something else to MJ-ize. Rob

With Angela's older brother renting a room out from my place, the fridge has become a bit, well, cramped. This gave me an excuse to put a project I wanted to do in the spot light. I've kinda been after a bar fridge for down by the bar in the basement. I had my heart set on one of those latch style huge bastards, but figured they'd be way too big, and a power monger. A mini fridge would be perfect, but not just any mini fridge... From the maker of this: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=26931 I present the Manche Fridge: Take one $25 mini fridge hot off Craigslist. Remove handles and Brand name. Sand, bang out big dents, and weld up holes. :D :brows: Ta Da! The emblems are magnets. And at home in the basement. Feels good to get another little project done. I don't have the money to paint/POR15 The Farmer at the moment, but this little tinkering keeps me going... Now I have a place for all my Beer! Rob

Brent, that motor out of the two door is still sitting in the barn over at the AMC place IIRC, Jodi didn't want much for it. if you got it, I would be more than happy to lend you a stand and picker to go through it. We might even na able to get it running out of the Jeep. The whole harness was just wrapped around it. Rob

There is a ton more stuff you have to do to your truck to make it water tight before you do deep water... You need a lot more than just slapping some random snorkel on it. Rob
