24V Conversion. Rob -
For some reason... I have a soft spot for this thing: Just something about an American car, that can actually handle and looks drop dead gorgeous, just gets me. I am the biggest Mopar guy, but that GT... Drool. I really wish I had paid more attention to the one the Ford dealer I used to work at had. Back then it wasn't on my radar though. Damn shame. How my taste has changed. Anyway, /hijack. OP, welcome to the club. Lots of good info here, hope you stick around. Rob

That guy with all the AMC stuff we picked over had a dual reservior cap like the early XJ/MJ's with a t and a valve stem brazed inbetween the two domes of the cover... It's sitting in my shed. Haven't used it yet, but I should try it out... The Diesel could use some bleeding. Any pics of your setup? Rob

Steel Replacement Cowl Bonnet / Hood
Automan2164 replied to COFFMAN's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They stopped making them. The only way to pick one up now is used/NOS. The company that made them is reflexxion. Hornbrod has one, and may be able to fill in more details. Rob -
Not many members can say they have an MJ with under 50K... And such a fine example of one at that. Enjoy. ---KNEVER3's 1987 JEEP COMANCHE SPORTRUCK--- MODEL AND YEAR 1987 Jeep Comanche Sport Truck ENGINE & PERFORMANCE: Currently none, but OE was a stock 4.0L. In a short time 4.7L stroker. ELECTRICAL & IGNITION: Stock for the most part. I added a keyless entry and power locks plus a new stereo system since it was a radio delete option. Hella e-code H4 conversion. MISCELLANEOUS: LineX bed liner Best MJ story My girlfriend at the time (now wife :D ) decided to go on a road trip to go see a Comanche to be used as a (Beater) until I could find a black 2001 60th anniversary XJ Classic. I contacted the seller who I could NOT understand or communicate with and after a few phone pictures we were off. I borrowed my friend's Duramax Chevy with his 28' car hauler and we drove to Milwaukee's hood to see the truck. Driving around Chicago during construction season was a white knuckle experience and I LOVE driving!! We parked and the truck was no where to be found. I called the seller and he was at work so we waited in the truck and I took a nap while my wife heard the ruckus transpiring throughout the neighborhood. I’ll get to that in a minute. The guy came back and it was the first time I saw the truck. Is it kind of weird to say it looked “cute”? It was a small truck, 2wd with tiny street tires on it. We tried to communicate and I tried to talk him down on his price since I figured by the condition it was worth a little less. We settled on a price we could live with. He then asked me if my wife was in the truck, I said “yeah” he said I wouldn’t park on that corner. There’s a lot of “deals” done on that corner and the houses are half way homes. I felt a little frantic because I had a nice truck and trailer that wasn’t mine and a load of cash in the truck. The cars rounding the corner were burning the tires, not to mention the suspicious panel vans. I loaded the truck as fast as I could and we hit the road. The GPS decided it was too rough of a neighborhood and took a vacation of its own so we just headed anyway we could to get out of town. After calling my sister for directions we were more than an hour in the wrong direction. All was calm from there on, we decided to go straight thru Downtown Chicago and the view was breathtaking and the traffic was fast and light. We finished our trip in 23 hours total and the rest is history! What owner loves best about CC This is where it all started, I give CC a lot of credit, the people are more than willing to give professional advice to help anyone out. The forum has been essential in upgrading my truck and has given me the opportunity to spend quality wrench time with my wife! PICS! Pictures from the owner’s cell phone: When I got it home, first upgrade ’98 XJ wheels. Under Construction: First shake down: On the horizon: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- If they had a smiley on here of someone hooting, hollering and whistling as these images pass my screen, insert it here. You truly have one of the cleanest examples of a nice truck that has the right touches of modification and restoration. A simple lift, some clean late model Jeep wheels, and the classic front end with a crisp black finish. Touches here and there to make it drive better, ride better, and be more comfortable... Only way it could get better is if you would have made it an extended cab. Your build thread is stellar, with steps and pictures of each step you take, and a steady progression of what the truck has become. I know you have a lot of onlookers drooling, myself being one of them. An asset to the Comanche Club, and an all around good guy. An easy pick for this month's highlight. Keep up the good work, and enjoy your MJOTM spotlight. Rob

"Unicorn" Update.....The current state of the 4-92 built MJ.
Automan2164 replied to ComancheKid45's topic in The Pub
Wade and I had exchanged a couple texts about this just now. I had saw it and figured that I would sit on it for a day or two to see if my mind changed. First off, I have to give credit where credit is due. This truck wasn't the cleanest, or the least rusty, and I am glad to see it shine. Someone took the time and money that Wade and I lacked and put back into it to make it new again. So thank you for that. On the other hand: I really think that repainting the only known factory Hunter Green Metallic Eliminator is some sort of blasphemy. Effectively removing the horn from what was the Comanche Club "Unicorn". No longer can it be recognized and upheld as a possible one-off or one of few factory original colors to don the Eliminator stripes. You could have lowered it, raised it to the heavens, chop topped it, or any of the like, but the one thing that made that truck what it is - The paint - Is but a memory. Credit where credit is due, but I really wish I would have kept the truck after seeing it's uniqueness has been stripped away. Sorry. Rob  -

why hasn't this happened yet?? (RC MJ related)
Automan2164 replied to johnny quest's topic in The Pub
We've been looking into it, but it's tough to find something with the right wheelbase for the MJ. It's sort of an odd size. My roommate has all sorts of drift cars and carpet racer RC's, but we just can't find the right one. Even in other truck chassis's, the only thing with a comparable WB is an HPI "Mini-trophy" truck. Quite the turn out. We all had a good time. I wasn't there for much, but walked away with some window seals for the doors and a rearview mirror. Didn't end up stopping at LKQ. Did I mention I was the only one there? Talk about a let down. Rob :(

Diesel Fuel Only - Factory Diesel Comanche
Automan2164 replied to Automan2164's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I can see them... :dunno: Got myself another smathering of parts to toss at this thing in the ever long quest of wrapping up loose ends. Engine mounts Trans mount U-joints for the rear shaft Output shaft seal Rear pinion seal Rear shocks Out with the old. I was surprised that these went so easily. I had them in and out like butter. Didn't fight me like most u-joints have lately. It was a welcome change. No finished pics, will come tomorrow. New output shaft seal. Pic of the diff cover off and a shot of the new shocks. Gears look good, although I was disappointed to find that I have an open differential, not a traclok like I thought. Oh well. Sexy shock. I'll have to take some more pics tomorrow, it was getting dark as I was wrapping up. I still have to put the pinion seal in yet, as well as button up the rear diff. I might try the trans mount tomorrow, but the engine mounts can wait until after the LKQ run on Saturday. I am still unsure if they will even work. I know the part numbers between the gasser and the diesel are different, but according to the parts stores, they are one in the same. Doesn't matter anyway, as the dealer doesn't have them anymore. Worth a shot. Rob -

I've gotten dicked by eBay. Buyer beware. I had a seller not communicate, or ship... Had to wait x number of days, then x number of days for them to respond, then another email... Long story short, it took me near a couple months, and when eBay finally got their $#!& together, the seller had closed their account that the paypal was attached to, and they couldn't get my money back. Even bigger joke was trying to call them. 2-3 hours on hold, never talking to a person. Rob
