Have a laserdisc player lined up. The guy on eBay had it started for $20, said he would end it for $40. Seeing as the good Pioneer units like this one seem to go for $60, I told him I would bring a disc along and if it works he's got a deal. So pumped! Rob

I found this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sima-SFG1-Sima-GO-Digital-Analog-to-Digital-Converter/17616966 Little cheaper, and the video editor it comes with lets you overlay text. I plan on putting comancheclub.com on the top/bottom or something to associate the videos with us. Rob

Plenty more to come once I get my hands on a laserdisc player. Anyone know of an easy way to transfer on digital? Like a component cable to usb kind of deal? I am going to search, but don't know if anyone has a suggestion. I definitely don't want to do the "Camera taping a tv" deal the whole time. Rob

Couldn't help myself, so I had to get something onto youtube. Rob

Thanks, but I am going to try to find one local. Already found someone with one for sale 10 miles from me on eBay. Already sent the message asking if they would end it early and I save them the shipping. He is generally such a super nice guy when it comes to his collection and sharing it. I almost feel as if I am donating to a charity for AMC. With the super car show he puts on, the "open door" with all his collectables and such, when he told me his price, I knew he was being nice. When I doubled it, he did perk up, and said "That works too!"... I almost think it really got the ball rolling on the huge stack of unexplored dealer stuff, so I am glad I did. His wife said they would be going through everything to organize, and would set aside any MJ stuff for me. Bonus :D Rob

Well... Swap meet time again. Madison Classics has their "Fall Jefferson" meet, and it's usually good for some oddball MJ parts. I've picked up a clean gate, tails, and some odds and ends before. It's more for the mainstream, but the weird stuff trickles in every once and awhile. I walked around for about 5 hours, but came up with nothing but a late style MJ badge for $1. Just on the outside of the swap meet, there is an AMC guru, who rents out his land for a campground, and has oodles of cool stuff. Ever since we found out about him in the spring, we've made it a point to go to his house. In the spring, we found his AMC Laserdisc collection: Complete with this: When we saw this, we asked about watching it, but he had said that it wasn't working, but would have it going for his summer car show. He hosts a cool AMC show that's more like a family picnic with free food and beer... Really awesome. I made plans to bring the diesel, and set up for the day. We got all settled in and started wandering around. We found him, but was so consumed with hosting and helping, didn't have a chance to fire up the video for us. Today, with my head hung low from a dry day at the swap meet, we went there in hopes of possibly catching him and having him fire up the laserdisc player. We found him outside, asked, and he fired it up for us. We got to watch the 1986 MJ video... So full of 1980's music, powershots, comparisons, offroading, and MJ goodness. I asked if he might sell the disc, and surprisingly, he said to look, and if he had any doubles, that he would sell them. After finding a 2.1L Turbodiesel service training video, I got excited. Then we found the double. I asked what he wanted, doubled his price, and then he pointed to a stack of unopened dealer materials and told me to have at it. All that was missing was the Christmas tree and my pajamas. I got down on the floor with the stack, in the shadow of a Javelin, and started cutting boxes open. I didn't find any doubles of the 1986 MJ video, but this is what I ended up with.: Soooo.... Now I just need to find myself a laserdisc player so I can play with all my new purchases. And yes, once I get the setup, I will be making some video uploads to youtube. Rob

I would put Delco plugs back in it and see what happens... I'm always surprised about how picky some engines are about brand of plugs. Rob

What kind of plugs did you 'upgrade' to? Rob

He's been doing this to me all night. First a text, then a message... Then this. Typical. Rob

With the head looking like that, I would pull the pan and clean that out while you are at it. Rob -
Not impressed. Rob

I bought the reupholstering kit from him. Very nice, ended up sending me another roll of fabric for the visors at no cost after finding out the shade was a bit off on the red interior. Turned out way better than I thought it would. I was going to do a write up, but never got around to it. The kit from him on eBay was $27.99... Great price, and good material. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1986-1992-Jeep-Comanche-MJ-Headliner-Kit-w-extra-material-for-Sunvisors-/170890638685?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27c9e0355d&vxp=mtr Rob

If it was a work truck, they have a huge problem with getting crap stuck in the evap. Where I work, we are a Chevy 2500 fleet. We probably have close to 30 of them, from '02-'12. On the trucks that end up sitting by any dust, and especially the chipper, the evap turns into a mud brick. Check the intake under the cowl for trash and mouse nests, but if that's clean, the evap needs to be cleaned out. Rob

Looks like the new format allows you to copy the whole ad! Good to know in case the seller takes the ad down. Rob -
I'll trade you some rusty junkers that run with a good title for an equal amount of non rusty junkers with bad titles. Like one hand washing the other. When should we load up the trucks? Rob ;)

I usually prefer the places that cater to the independent shops and dealers rather than the ones that cater to the public. There is a general hierarchy of parts places: Independent shop / Dealer aftermarket: Napa Lee/Bumper to bumper Carquest Inbetweeners: Murray's O'reily's Public: Autozone Advance auto parts The prices also follow those most of the time too. The ones that cater to the shops, give the account holders and employees of such the best deals, while being usually the most expensive for the guy off the street. The exact opposite comes into play with the Public ones. I forgot the exact numbers, but the Carquest guy was rambling once, and said that Napa/CQ does about 98% of total volume to shops, while the Autozone's did about 90% retail walk in. As such, for myself, I generally rely on the Napa/CQ's. CQ was actually the one that found my timing belt for the diesel. He actually got in contact with Gates, and they found a belt. Since then, I buy pretty much everything from CQ because I feel they did me right by going the extra mile. When it comes to some of the weirder stuff at work (public works fleet mechanic) I can run into some really horridly obscure parts and manufacturers, and Napa is the place to go for that. Like Ben said, I can walk in there, lay the part on the counter, and say "What do you think?". CQ comes close, but there is one guy at Napa that has been around since Christ was a Corporal, and knows the lay of the parts world. Rob

Tesing The Poll Feature, And Asking About The Site.
Automan2164 replied to Automan2164's topic in The Pub
Took me a second to realize that it bumps the topic with each vote also... Neat. Rob -
Just wanted to get a feel for the polls, and how everyone was taking to the new site. Rob

Well, as you all may know by now... There was a hitch in our giddy up this month. What the heck are we to do when left with no truck to post and half a month left? How about highlight half a truck. Let's tip the ol' Comanche stetson to our very own Neohic this month... For being weird enough to fill our void. Haha. NEOHIC'S COMANSION MODEL AND YEAR: 1988 MJ Pickup Bed ENGINE & PERFORMANCE: Depends on what's pulling it DRIVETRAIN: See above COOLING: Zip-open tent windows ELECTRICAL & IGNITION: Four pole trailer wiring back to the factory taillight harness STEERING: 2" hitch SUSPENSION: SOA Mystery leaf springs found at a garage sale in 2008. Maybe from a Chevy something? INTERIOR: Custom cabinets running down both sides wrapped in soft automotive carpet Ribbed carpet runner on the floor Air mattress Dessert camo curtains BRAKES: N/A LIGHTING: Factory taillights Sylvania bulbs WHEELS/TIRES: Scuzzy looking 10 spoke turbines Free 235/75s that leak... even the spare MISCELLANEOUS: All stainless frame Kitchen "tool box" mounted on the tongue Stainless water tank with fuel door spout Best MJ story: My best story about the camper has to be how I came across the WilderNest topper itself. I'm sure it wasn't even a couple months after one phone call that I found it... Rob knows what's coming too. For whatever reason, I was talking with Rob on the phone and we ended up bouncing ideas back and forth about potential projects that had been stirring in our heads. The topic of camping came up and he mentioned how cool it would be to have a matching camper for your Comanche. It almost sounded like he already had the whole thing built in his head too... WilderNest topper mounted on an MJ bed ready to hitch up to at a moments notice for a nice weekend of camping adventure. We talked for a while about it and the plans just started spinning in my head too. I think I remember trying to change the subject several times in hopes that I'd stop thinking about something else that I just couldn't live without! Fast forward to the already said couple months and a coworker of mine was on the hunt for a cheap camper to turn into a hunting shack. I had the pleasure of opening his eyes to the magical world of CraigsList! We sat down. I typed in "camper trailer". There it was... top of the list even not even listed for two hours! I clicked on the add and found that it wasn't even a half an hour drive from me... clearly this was meant to be. That minute I called the guy and we talked it over. By that evening I was the proud owner of a WilderNest with the dimensions for a Ford Ranger... but that was okay for the plans I had for it! What I still find awesome was how well the whole project just fell into place. The topper was just about in my back yard, the bed had been sitting on a shelf for 14 years before I came along to find it, and the frame was constructed from free stainless steel. For the enjoyment I've gotten while building it, the one time the wife and I had it out, and the future outings that I get to call it home... I love my camper! What owner loves best about CC: I love how something can grow from something so simple into something so crisp, clean, and professional looking all to better help others find their way both here and around our site. Let's be honest, there has been some who absolutely love it and there are other who have some... should we say growing pains? Let's be even more honest... I've done plenty of nitpicking and have probably made my share of comments over the updated look of the site. I haven't said it yet, but I am thankful for all those involved. Yes... I am a creature of habit but, for the greater good, my belly aching is nothing more than just growing pains. I've compared the changes to Comanche Club as a '97+ swap in messages that it was a matter of taste and that it was taking something that had its issues and turning it into something unrecognizable from what it always was. Then I started looking around the site. At the time I was looking for more things to nitpick about and comment on. That all stopped in my head when I came across the What if You Could Build a Brand New Jeep Comanche? thread. That thread is all about taking the soul of the trucks that we love and producing an updated MJ as something fancy and new. Everyone who posts in that thread has a vision in their head as to what they think would make for a perfect Comanche. Whether it be a diesel engine, bigger axles, a more plush interior, or just a reintroduction to the world, it seems as though everyone on here would bring back the Comanche if they could in some shape or form. In a sense, that's what has happened here! There's nothing to say that there's anything wrong with old technology, remembering our roots, and appreciating our past. At the same time we can't stay in the past and let the world move forward without us. What better way to enjoy our trucks together than reintroducing ourselves as something fancy and new! I'd say that the new site still has to grow on me but I'm trying. With everything that has changed, the one thing that remains is everyone who makes Comanche Club what is and always has been. Thanks everyone! Thanks for always keeping the soul of this place alive and moving forward into whatever's next. Thanks for letting me do this again. -Ben --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ah, Ben. How I am sooooo utterly jealous of you sir. Of your work, your luck, and your skills. It would be one thing to have the materials, but with your welding skills and mad fabrication work, you have outshined anything that I could have dreamed up. I think it's the outside the box ideas like this that make the club so unique and interesting. As for your comments on the new site, I think it sounds like you are finally starting to come around. While the old site feels like the old tried and true MJ interior, the new site has a new feel, a smoothness, as well as a more functional core similar to that slightly familiar, yet new XJ interior. Maybe this month is a late start and a transition for all of us. Anyway, back to the task at hand... Ben, attaboy for a job well done, and for being one of the only ones able to fill a half-month gap. Rob  Click here to view the article

Direct Me Towards A Good Cover For The Comanche...
Automan2164 replied to ComancheKid45's topic in The Pub
I had one that fit pretty tight on a shortbed, and I traded it off to $500MJ for one that was a little big when I needed to cover a longbed. Brent might still have the cover and be able to find the brand. I think he had it on his truck, which has the rollbar, but no lights. Rob -
Who needs a mouse? That's what the little pad on the laptop is for. Half the time I'm surfing from the couch anyway. Rob

On the boat or off the boat! I was going the RC route to prevent such a time warp. I don't want this to split off into an alternate 2012. Rob

What say you club? RC or Comansion? Rob
