That time of the month again, time for some fresh MJ meat. This month is a special project, and one that we have come to know well. ------------OCTOBER 2010 - GREENF350's 1991 PIONEER---------- MODEL AND YEAR 1991 Comanche Pioneer Short Bed w/ 94k ENGINE & PERFORMANCE: 4.0 high output, K&N filter, mostly stock, but I have 5.0 injectors sitting on the bench. New tailpipe/muffler DRIVETRAIN: 231 t-case , AW4 trans, stock driveshaft, HP Dana 30 w/ 3.55's (open) and Dana 35 w/3.55's (open) Remember, this is still a work in progress  Should be corrected shortly COOLING: Stock, but the truck seemed to run hot when I 1st bought it so I did a new water pump and replaced the head gasket. Looking back, I think the head gasket was fine. ELECTRICAL & IGNITION: stock STEERING: 97 XJ steering box, Just got a V8 ZJ tie rod ( Not yet installed ) SUSPENSION: Rusty's 4.5" coils, added ACOS to level the front, Rusty's lower controll arms, Rough Country adjustable track bar. Spring under 4.5" rear springs. For now... INTERIOR: Pretty much the way I got it. Tan bench that Ive tried to re-stuff so that it isnt so uncomfortable. Bench seats will come after the body is done. Has a slider though! BRAKES: 97 XJ booster and master cylinder, load sensing valve gone LIGHTING: stock WHEELS/TIRES: Soft 8's w/ 33 x 12.5 Pro Comp Xtreme Mud terrains. ( Old tires were X-terrains, had some sidewall issues ) MISCELLANEOUS: Although I have no pics of it originally, this truck was ugly when I got it. It had been hit on the drivers side fender, so half of the nose was replaced with black panels. Add to that a faded green cap, mismatched rims, bald tires and a window that wouldnt roll up. Naturally, I had to have it. Since then, Ive replaced the hood, one door, the bed, patched the floor, the frame, and had it painted (cheaply) since it was supposed to be a winter driver/beater. Two years later and it was getting pretty beat up, so now I'm in the process of body and paint work all over again, only this time I'm painting it in a friends garage. Oh, and Ive got some sweet Eliminator stickers for once its painted. Basically, this truck has served as a winter driver, woods truck, eyesore, waste of cash, gas pig, project, tent for camping, firewood hauler, parts runner, rot collector, driveway ornament, and now restoration candidate. It started out as a Pioneer, tried being a SporTruck for awhile, and now its gonna pretend to be an Eliminator. Its also the reason that I buy every MJ tailgate that I come across even though I don't need anymore damn tailgates. Its probably cost me more $$ in body supplies and paint then if I paid to have it done professionally, continues to cost me in insurance and taxes even though I havent driven it in a year now, and its parts are in the garage, basement, yard, and inside the house. In other words, I love this truck. Its a keeper, no matter how many times I have to practice my rust repair skills. And I have the only MJ out of everyone I know. Ill be sure to post pics once its finished....hopefully this month! Best MJ story There's probably a few I could think of, but finding mine made for a good story. When I told my friends that I was looking for a Comanche to build, they agreed it was a good idea, but they also agreed that I'd never find a decent one. They are pretty hard to come by around here and tend to rot out as everyone knows. Anyways, the very next day, I'm driving down the highway in the work truck when I hear the sound of mud tires coming up on the side of me. I looked over and saw a lifted dark blue MJ longbed with what looked like 33's on turbines passing me. I knew then that I had to get one. Turns out, it was CW's truck going by me, but I didnt know at the time. Fast forward a few weeks and I was at work. I had to pick up a load of cars being sent to auction from some tiny used car lot in the middle of nowhere. The last car that I had to load was a beat up green Comanche. I asked the guy how much he was trying to get for it at the auction, and when he told me $600, I knew I found the truck I was looking for. I probably would have settled for any MJ, but got lucky that this one was a 91. What owner loves best about CC For some reason, this is the 1st site I check out once I get home from work. Its also the one I spend the most time on. This site is also the reason I bought a 2nd Comanche (should have kept it) and its the reason I'm currently trying to purchase another one. I also know the location of most of the the MJ's around here, and to anyone who's not on CC, thats considered useless knowledge. I guess its just nice to see others who have the same problem as me. ( I can quit whenever I want ) here's a few body work shots. Ive been working on this truck since November and I'm almost done..... These parts are all waiting to be put back together ( its gonna be a shame to start wheeling this truck again ) Backyard Chip pile.... Found a ditch.... Overheating on I-91 in MA...... Flat tire.... All loaded up ........ Congrats man  Your truck is one of the cleanest examples of a working MJ that we have here on the board. I can only imagine what that green Metallic will look under some HO Eliminator decals. Seeing a truck like yours inspires all of us to see within the rusty, beat up work horses and see the potential that lays underneath. I can't wait to see the finished project. Couldn't belong to a better member. Congrats again, and welcome to the MJOTM club. Rob L. :D

Anything is possible. The original owner could have ordered it special, or put it in later. You didn't have to check the Metric Ton package, but sometimes a towing package would include the HD springs and Flavor or D44/A20 Rob L.

Wha? I said they are, or looks to be. Rob L. :hmm:

Looks to be. 4 leaves with 1 overload. Rob L.

Measuring a cylinder wall score
Automan2164 replied to Geonovast's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
http://www.amazon.com/Precision-Dial-Bo ... 216&sr=1-9 Sorry man, I don't think there is an easy way around one of these, or handing it over to a pro. You are talking about thousands of an inch, not many backyard tricks that get that precise. You could use the bore gauge to measure the thickness not in the score, and then drop the gauge into the deepest part of the score and getting a measurement. That's the best I can tell ya. Might be also one of those things where the machinist might just have to punch it out in steps until it goes away. Rob L. -
He's really good at photochopping them up. Rob L.

front axle booboo~~~ doh
Automan2164 replied to case5412's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The only great part about having the disconnect in the front is you can weld the spiders or put in a spool, without major consequences on road. Essentially, you can lock the differential together, since you can disconnect the one axle, allowing free movement. One pull of the posi lock, and you have a locked front axle again. Rob L. -
That really sucks Darren. Sorry to see that. Must be tough to see all your work being piled up on the forks. Rob L.

8) You never know. Currently, I am looking for a black interior, and am always willing to trade MJ stuff. Rob L.

Both if you can... Maybe a short description for stock, and full for how it sits as is. Rob L.

Last one I was on was 2 drunk guys with a hit and run. They crossed the centerline on a country road and plowed head on into the driverside of a mini-van with a guy just coming home from work. They ran, and their truck became a fireball. The guy in the van had a bi-lateral femur fracture (Broke both thigh bones), a broken arm and was pinned in. (they hit him so hard the dash rolled down onto his legs and pinched him to the floor) We ended up cutting the roof off of his van, and unrolling the dash to get him out. His family showed up halfway through and got to listen to his screams as we pulled the mangled van away from him. But the two drunken idiots were good enough to run away. How fair was that? Darren, I get ya. I know the sense of humor, and feel that the joking manner you posted this with is your way of dealing with a hard situation. But please. You don't need to do that to yourself. How would you feel if you were the one in the truck who head on'ed the minivan? Or if Brenda and your little girl were in that minivan? Could you get that phone call? Would you be willing to sit in a cop car and listen to someones screams because they are in pain that you caused? Would you want to be the reason for a phone call like that? If you are worried about Ben messing you up talk to him and tell him how you feel. If he doesn't understand your need to cut back or drop it completely, he's not a friend worth having. You know the answer to your question. Act on it. Rob L.

Getting closer Jim. Thats the email for the listing. You want to grab the address at the top of your page on your internet browser. I searched Pueblo for MJ's, and found the listing you were trying to post. This is the link that will bring you straight there. http://pueblo.craigslist.org/cto/1970956312.html Rob L.

Man you guys have a hard on for that slider. Not to be a Comanche snob, but the slider was aftermarket, and stuck out from the back of the cab an inch. Looked like $#!&. Not only that, I have factory sliders in both MJ's now, don't need another laying around. As for buying that to ship to a member? Its an over sized fragile item, that wouldn't work well. And the tail lights? They were no longer good in my eyes. Who even knows how they looked when they were lit. Not only that, but do you really want the only item that tells the people behind you that your braking to have a tint? The interior was maroon :ack: , and a bench, but nothing was in good shape. I saved what I needed, without cluttering my garage for the moment. Gate, axle, wheels/tires, dome lights, side mirrors, rear bumper, hitch, skid plate... All things I could for see needing one day. Trust me. If its a hard to come by item I would get it. Currently in inventory I have: Factory Long bed roll bar Factory Short bed roll bar Mopar add-a-light bar to put 4 lights on the stock roll bar Factory Longbed bed mat Factory Shortbed bed mat Longbed MJ topper Rust free rocker and cab corner sections to weld in 5 sets of Dome lights Factory Meyer/Jeep plow off an MJ with paperwork 2 Original MJ window stickers 2 MJ specific sunvisors (over the cab ones) 2 complete grey MJ interiors 2WD AX15 out of an MJ Complete wiring harness for a '92 HO MJ, 4.0L, AX15, 231. Drivetrain from the above, with 80K original 1 set MJ bucket seat brackets 1 set MJ bucket seats with brackets 2 MJ t-case skidplates 5 sets of tails 5 tailgates 3 Cargo light sets, and they are all the FOG/CARGO combo switch 10 sets of vents 5 sets of badges 10 Owners manuals That is just the stand-out stuff I can remember. There are numerous boxes of small items, shackles, bolts, little things, and I am sure there is a bunch of big stuff I am forgetting. No none of this is for sale. Don't ask. A few things I might be interested in trading away or selling as I collect more, but most of it I plan to keep. I plan on having 2 MJ's for a looooonnng time. This is more or less to keep the look fresh, and be able to change it however I want to. But I will grab a rare/hard to find part when I see one. There wasn't a whole lot on that truck that was rare in my eyes, besides the clean tailgate, the D44, the unbroken domes, and the skid plate package. So thats what I wanted. Rob L.

Not really. Pretty immature. Especially the needless take down of a tree. I'd have told my buddy to go fly a kite if he tried getting me to do that stuff. Rob L.

Can anybody tell me what this tube is for?
Automan2164 replied to TheMagician's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Eagle, he's talking about the hose that runs parallel with the main loom, that has a hose barb sticking out of it I believe. Rob L. -
Recently I got back into the groove of some old school music, and started re-listening to Cake. After taking in the Cake classics, I can't believe I forgot one of their old songs from their first CD, Comanche. Its a really simple, weird song, but Comanche is repeated throughout. Enjoy. :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLa8-ToD ... re=related And the more well-known Cake Jams: Rob L.

How soon do you need it? I have an '87 MJ that's getting a 4x4 conversion... Haven't gotten around to it yet, but I will have a beam axle laying around when I do. I am over in Harvard, closer to Rockford. Rob L.
