  1. 1989 Jeep Comanche "Pioneer" 4.0L / BA 10/5 / D35 114K Miles as of 11/26/10 Build 2-89 Located in Northern IL In LKQ self service auto parts, Rockford, IL Standard 2WD Pioneer, pretty rusty, and has been picked over by MJ guys who know what they are after... Poor little fella, only had 114K on the ticker. Rob L.
  2. Turned out to be a half off weekend. Wade, Will, and Kitch showed up for picking. We managed to find a poor MJ, that had already been picked over by someone who knew what they were after. The dome lights, tailgate innards, tail lights, and badges were gonzo already. No cargo light for Brent (sorry). I managed to pick up the painted flares for $5 each, the tailgate for $25, a back window slider clip, the the gas door for Brent (looked OK). Even though it seemed hopeless finding a clean 3.73 axle for the ZJ, we found one that was higher miles, but looked to have some recent work done. The pinion yoke was new, as well as looking pretty clean inside. The u-joints are shot, as is one unit bearing, but I can transfer those off the old axle if need be. Picked up the axle end to end for $67.50. Pics: Finished off the day at the Tilted Kilt, and even put in to win a free lunch... :D Thanks again for the help guys. Always a good time hanging out with y'all. Rob L.
  3. Depending on the gearing, I would just replace the whole axle. They ain't that hard to come by in certain gears. Rob L.
  4. Carb? Why? The 4.0 fuel injection system is just new enough to be trouble free and reliable, and old enough that the average do it yourselfer can diagnose it with the simplest of meters and tools. On that note, I have heard that the best blocks to build are the early HO's. So...'91-'95. They have a good block, and the head is already pretty decent. The Renix has a bit heavier cam, but if you are changing it out anyway, go with an HO. Rob L.
  5. No need for photo bucket. I link all my pics from Facebook too. In order to use them here, just right click on them, click copy image location... Come to cc, click the IMG tag, and drop the link right in there... I'll do yours here... Rob L.
  6. Was thinking the same... But maybe I am missing something. Rob L.
  7. The '99 WJ rims will not fit a Comanche. The bolt pattern is 5X5.00 while the Comanche bolt pattern is 5X4.50. I hope this info helps. Yep. ZJ rims will fit, but with the debut of the WJ in '99, the bolt pattern changed... No dice mang. Rob L.
  8. Yeah, because you are the one that went with him. Rob L.
  9. You talking about the hump for the filler neck? Rob L.
  10. A bunch of us are going to be there at 9 AM Friday. Don't forget some lunch money too. Rob L.
  11. Don't accept their first offer... The best place to go for some inflated prices to show the adjuster is the "Classic" or "Collector" value off KBB or NADA. Rob L.
  12. Nope. MJ's are a little inboard. You'll have to burn in some new perches. Rob L.
  13. Wade doesn't go mudding. Rob L.
  14. Rear axle makes a difference too. D44 or D35? Rob L.
  15. Someone does re-make something crazy close, and looks a bunch better, IMHO. Anyone have a pic of the Eurmatec ones? Rob L.
  16. Call me crazy, but I am betting that its only a black and white picture. Rob L.
  17. You got me excited that was going to be a link to an app that turns your phone into a keyfob. I guess a rewards card app is cool too. Rob L. :D
  18. OMG I'm jealous of your tool box!! Considering I don't even have one, I just steal my BFs tools. But really, I wanted to get a Matco. BF's tools? What a drag dude. But seriously, a nice set of tools is a great thing to have. Can't tell you how irritating it is to go to a friends house, and his stuff is mismatched and Chinese. Great investment if you want to get into the hobby/career. If you have his though, I assume you don't need to grab your own. But I am sure he won't mind getting tools that you want on his side of the tree for Christmas. Rob L.
  19. Edited at the request for 87comanchelaredo. Rob L.
  20. Yep. Autozone's are crap. Try a real parts store. Rob L.
  21. Check out the local parts store. I bet they have them in stock. They aren't as uncommon as you'd think. Rob L.
  22. If you don't mind me asking, how much in total did the soda blasting guy do, and what did it set you back? I am intrigued. Rob L.
  23. The ensuing conversation about gun control reminds me of something a friend told me in tech school. He was in his 40's, from Jersey, with the biggest Jersey accent imaginable. How he got to a tech school in the midwest is beyond me, but I knew he was going there so he could learn mechanics to work on an oil rig. (Which he actually ended up doing) Anyway, being from Jersey, he was never accustomed with guns. He couldn't have one on him, and didn't own one. So when he moved to a southern state (GA?), he called the local police department about the gun laws. He got the dispatcher, and asked if guns were allowed on your person or in your vehicle, and she said yes. He responded with, "So your telling me, I can have a loaded gun, just sitting on the passenger seat of my truck?" He said there was a pause on the other end, and then the reply: "Well what the hell good is it unloaded? Still laugh about it every time I think of him. Rob L. :D
  24. Go talk to a local installer shop. I bought everything for my girlfriends 07 Corolla from my local guy. I good him what I had, what I wanted to do, and he set me up. I told him about putting it in myself, and asked him how hard it was. He was really nice, told me how they would go about it, and even printed me out a page from their installers software. Its cool, because it identifies all the wire colors and locations of wires you need by the make and model needed for install. In my case, she only wanted the start function, and was ok using the stock fob to lock the doors. I just got a one button fob system, start only, with the bypass for the theft deterrent key. If her car has a chipped key, you need one. It's a box with a coil that you put a key into to trick the PCM. I got a key programmed, but not cut to use inside... that way if a smart their were to find they key, they still couldn't use it to start it. Whole shebang cost me $150 ish. Needless to say, I still haven't gotten around to putting the darn thing in... Rob L.
  25. Under normal driving, your engine creates vacuum. The Comanche uses vacuum to control many things, like the HVAC blend door, as well as the central axle disconnect. Under wide open throttle, the butterfly on the throttle body is open, reducing available vacuum. So think of it like a reservoir for vacuum pressure in times of high demand/low supply. Rob L.
