89 Renix 4.0/AX15 -> 91 4.0 HO/ AW4

There's a small (7mmish) bolt in the middle that you unbolt from the engine bay. Rob L. -
Its got a loop, and its hooked on to the indicator needle. Just grab it, and pull it towards the needle to pull it off. Rob L.

I work on a spread of beat-up, beat down Crown Vic Police primary cars that are a year old, secondary cars that are 2 years old, city pool cars that are up to 15 years old, and have never had to replace one of those grease-less joints yet. As for all those grease-able inner tie rod ends and ball joints on the 2500 HD's... Forget about it. Good thing they're cheap. But, its all what you deal with... Maybe its because I have such extreme hatred for Chevy that I hate working on them. I'd take a blend door actuator on a Vic any day over a set of rear brakes with that stupid parking brake shoe. brand new "comanche" emblem's
Automan2164 replied to btm24's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Nope... I don't want to inflate it, so I am going to try to jump in in the last few moments with my max. Rob L. -
I would if I were closer Jim. It's probably rust free, and in decent shape. Which is better than anything I could find around here. Rob L.

I'll take it Jim. Rob L. :D

I'm a fleet mechanic, and though partial to Mopar, I would buy a Ford for the right price. I believe them to be well built, thought out vehicles... Chevy on the other hand... You couldn't give me one of those piles of junk. So many things that "should" be easy, aren't. Like that stupid uni-shoe brake shoe for the parking brake that perma locks the rotor on everytime. Or the fact that you can't pull the rear caliper slide bolt out of a pickup without removing the whole caliper/bracket assy, since the stupid engineers put the thing level with the leaf pack. I maintain Crown Vic's, and Impala's everyday for the police department, and will take any repair on the Ford over the Chevy any day. And for some unknown reason, every hillbilly with a Chevy seems to put a body lift on it. Looks like dog mess. Again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder... One man's trash is another man's Chevy. Anyone use front bumper for rear?
Automan2164 replied to kyleag89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Friend of mine in high school had an MJ, and used a front bumper as a roll pan of sorts. Looked decent. He cut it down to fit between the bedsides and tuck in under the tailgate. Even left the little bumper-ettes on... I'd do it if I needed to. Rob L. -
Multiple different things, two opposing cones, chain, variable pulley system.... Tons of variants. The Patriot CVT uses a steel band rather than a rubber belt. http://www.allpar.com/mopar/transmissions/CVT.html Rob L.

CVT's have bee around for years, and are a proven technology at this point. Rob L. yeah...in snowmobiles and atvs. and I replace my belts once per season due to wear...with under 2200 miles a season, on a good snow year. sorry, I don't think they're a good idea in a road driven vehicle. Too bad it's not ran on belts. Rob L.

I have often thought about getting a Patriot. I like the style, and the thought of a Jeep with AWD, and good mileage is appealing... And, like stated, the aftermarket is starting to accept them... I would sooooo drive that. (Sorry for HUGE pic.) Rob L.

There has been quite a few inquiries on the reason for the registry, and I would like to take this time to answer some. The biggest has been why do we register... I believe there are many reasons to register. One of the best is vehicle tracking. It lets us keep track of how many MJ's are somewhat still out there. Ideally, every member here would register every MJ we find. Junkyards, parking lots, our own. Then we can try to track trends. As we can already tell, the most registered MJ in there is the '88. Which is cool, because it follows with the '88 being the year with the biggest production number. I would also say its a good tool to see an average on longbeds/shorts, Eliminators... Etc... Just as the '88's proved the same, with a big enough sample group, we could estimate the percentages of what/which packages were made for each year. We will have holes, obviously, as MJ's have been getting junked and parted out since they started being sold in dealers, but we can make some good calculations. If you've noticed, if you match up some of the closer VIN's in the same year with leaving out the serial number (last 6 digits), you will end up finding similar trucks. The VIN will tell you the length of the bed, the engine and trans combo, 4x4/2WD, and column shift or floor shift auto. They will also identify the package in the VIN. With enough time and looking at them, like myself, you'll be able to walk up, and tell the year and the package just by the sequence. The most important reason would be to nail down the last/first few MJ's. This is the No. 1 reason for me. In an ideal world, Chrysler would let me have a Dealer Connect password, and I would decode everyone's VIN's for you and be able to tell you when your truck was made, where the original dealer was, and all the fun junk. So far, I think the last 3 I know of are 4/23/92 (STERLING STINGER's '92) 4/24/92 (My Green Eliminator), and 5/3/92 (Members name escapes me). I strongly urge anyone with a '92 to register it, and all to register any '92's we find. It would be awesome to find the member with the oldest '86 too. If you want to know your exact build date, just call your local Jeep dealer, and ask for the parts department. Give them your VIN, and they should be able to look it up. I know we have a few members that work for Chrysler, and have the access to Dealer Connect, but I don't want everyone to start hassling them for the info. Anywho, I think that covers the biggest reasons... Rob L.

Do you think the newest update would cure some of this Pete? We're still behind. Rob L. :dunno:

headlights turning off while driving
Automan2164 replied to XXLMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There is a circuit breaker in the headlight switch. Sounds like yours is going out. All you have to do is replace the switch. Happened on a '91 XJ I had. Rob L. -
Just buy yourself a tube or RTV, and put a thin bead on the flange before you bolt it on. Rob L.

brand new "comanche" emblem's
Automan2164 replied to btm24's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
One of the coolest thing I have, is a coin, that came out with the Comanche on July 1st, 1985. I think Pete has one too. Pete also has a Stetson Cowboy hat that came out with the truck. Looks almost like a Crocodile Dundee hat, it has Comanche in the liner, and a little baby Comanche ('86 style) badge on the hat. Rob L. -

Automan2164 replied to btm24's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Pete and I have a massive collection of posters, hats, coins, brochures, window stickers, build sheets... I think Pete even has/had someone supply him with a factory LWB bedside that was never replaced. Something like these emblems should never go on a truck in my opinion... Too cool. And once they go on a truck, they aren't NOS anymore. Rob L. -

Thanks, I'm currently the high bidder. These will get placed in the Comanche Club archive I have and never on a truck if I win them. Rob L. -
