Perhaps it's the fact that I own a Dodge diesel with a Chryco transmission in it (read: it's a total POS and needs constant maintenance), this seems pretty trivial to me. Your TC lockup solenoid is likely bad - or the wiring going to it went bad. The PCM (well, actually, the TCM) is sensing an ohm reading that is out of spec and it's throwing the code. The fact that you have TC lockup issues only further confirms the fact that the solenoid is likely bad. The good news for the AW4 is that replacing that solenoid is very easy (well, easy when compared to what I had to go through to replace mine on my Dodge). It will require dropping the pan and getting messy, but a write-up can be found here: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/aw4-solenoid-replacement-write-up-no-56k-717206/

Mind clarifying? Other than a bench seat and no leather wrapped steering wheel, my current rigs interior is the same as my Eliminators had. Supposedly what I have now is an X, but I can't get a clear answer to that and the badges are long gone on the side as you can see in my avatar. It does have all the chrome/silver trim though, but back then everything could be option box ticked to the buyers liking if you ordered your vehicles rather than picked one on the lot. That is correct, but the majority of Comanche buyers were looking for a cheap, compact pickup truck. The thing was advertised as a sub-10K truck, but that was pretty bare bones - 2.5L, 4-speed, vinyl flooring, no A/C, 2WD. I'm sure someone on here can cite some of the option pricing, but most of the available add-ons were pretty pricey - especially for the budget-minded Comanche buyer. As such, many Comanches did not get "optioned out" much past their standard trim packages. The '86 Comanche's generally have more options than any other year. Many of the '86 XLS (which was only available in '86) that I have seen came with factory buckets, chrome trim, sliding rear window, fog lights, rear cargo light, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The '86 X package was basically their base model - maybe a small step above it. If your '86 has factory buckets and chrome trim I'd venture a guess that it may be an XLS.

I absolutely don't like it...but I get it...and I don't blame them for it. One of the hardest things for a business to do is to adapt to the changing landscape. Chryco kept pumping out the same Jeep vehicles (with some minor facelifts through the years) since they bought the brand in 1987. It was all sunshine and rainbows during that time, but the market shifted and Jeep didn't adapt. Now they're trying to play catch-up and pumping out tacky toy SUVs for suburban mommies to take their kids to dance lessons. They sell. They'll make money. Until they can get their head above water where they're profitable again, we can wave bye-bye to the capable off-roading Jeeps of old. The concepts they take to the shows are nothing more than eye candy and a reminder of what they used to be.

The 4.0L was an outdated engine that couldn't meet federal emission limits. They didn't exactly have a whole lot of options. The engine had a great run, but it couldn't stick around forever. Chryco is just playing to the market demand. People that use their vehicles to wheel are in the minority and make up an insignificant portion of the buyers market. We're talking about a company that has needed the federal government to bail them out a few times - they need to cater to the majority market share...and make money. Yuppie SUVs and hybrids (or a combination of the two) are what sells.

When Jeep kept hinting that they were going to enter back into the small pickup market, everyone assumed that this concept was going to be it. It's basically just different sheet metal on a JK frame (it may be slightly stretched, I'm not too sure). However, when they introduced their JK8 Independence sheet metal package, that pretty much squashed all hope of the above concept ever coming to fruition. Oh well. I got to see this thing at multiple car shows and eventually convinced one of the Chryco reps to let me sit in it. Definitely a neat rig and something I'd consider buying.

I really wish they would have went with a shortbed on the red one. Don't get me wrong - it's very nicely put together, but there is just something very off about the length. I think if it were lifted with larger tires it would look a lot better.

Any modern 4 cylinder turbodiesel will not have any issue with weight or vibration. The diesel engine/trans that I imported from Japan weighs less than my 4.0L/AX-15 setup.
-
EPA and DOT will never let a full vehicle come through unless you know someone. They can't do anything about a half cut - it's viewed as parts and there are no import laws against parts. I can give you the information of the importer I used to get my Mazda turbodiesel. I'm not sure if they'd be able to get anything you wanted, but might be worth a shot.
-
Half cuts are very common in Japan because of the tax laws they have in place for older vehicles, which is why the JDM market even exists. Countries that have diesel XJs don't have those laws so people will keep the vehicles until they die.

About an hour and a half from me. I'd like to own it, but not at that price. Thinking about going to check it out to get a better idea of the craftsmanship and condition of the dually parts. -

Big win on Saturday night. She had two catches in the game and played much better than the first game in Jacksonville. Got to go to the game with a few of my friends and had a blast. http://www.lfl360.com/articles/baltimore-edges-philly-1-point-lfl360-com-marcus-de-la-fuente/ -

It kind of looks like the roll bar my favorite forum member in the whole wide world used to have: http://comancheclub.com/topic/24952-on-or-offcustom-roll-barspics/ But not quite. -

He put a picture of it up....not Comanche-specific. I'm out. -
That truck has been sitting on Craigslist for a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time. I didn't realize it was so clean underneath or I may have given it a second look. What'd you get it for? It originally listed about 7-8 months ago for $2500. It left CL for about a month and came back listed at $1,800.

Roll Bar In Maryland

I'm interested in this as well, but only if it's a Comanche-specific bar. Doesn't quite sound like it is, though. -
I've snapped those bolts on every XJ I've owned. I'm pretty sure those bolts are made of pudding.
-
lol I rarely see XJs of any model year around me so when I do I'll give a wave if I'm in my XJ or MJ. I've only ever had one XJ guy wave back and I figured out he's over on NAXJA so he understands.

My wife wants to know where those pictures are. Sorry for the delay, but it was a very long preseason for the team. You don't get a uniform unless you're on the starting 14 roster and you don't find that out until a few days before game time. Her first game was this past Saturday in Jacksonville, FL and they got beat 27-12. She said she didn't play very well in the later portion of the game, but it sounds like she did pretty well for being moved from wide receiver to center only a few days before the game - she really didn't have much practice snapping the ball or blocking. Anyway, I'm sure you guys could care less about the details of the game so here is a picture she sent me right before running out onto the field: The Baltimore Charm website should be updated soon to show the current roster with all new pictures of the ladies. Enjoy. -
