  1. One day I'll do a diesel swap into an MJ, just not now. If I had all of my tools from my original shop I probably would have went through with the swap into my 92, but without my plasma cutter and welder I'm kind of up the creek as far as fabricating is concerned. I needed a more direct swap and I should have that with the Mazda truck.
  2. You don't do a diesel swap for horsepower. You do it for torque, reliability, fuel mileage and the ability to run it on french fries.
  3. Yup. It was the perfect time to clean the engine bay and take care of all of the knick-knacks under the hood that I always wanted to replace and clean up i.e. gaskets, vacuum hoses, air breather lines, wiring, A/C line routing, etc. I just couldn't bring myself to tear apart an MJ (and a 1992 at that) with an engine that has no problems other than some piston-slap and has never once left me stranded. Now, a Mazda pickup with a blown head gasket...got no problems ripping that up.
  4. Plans changed and the MJ is no longer getting this little powerplant. I couldn't bring myself to do it. A Mazda engine deserves a Mazda truck, so I picked up this little fella: Actually, not so little at all. GVWR is 4,640 lbs! The big upside: the engine will bolt to the existing mounts and with a little swapping of the trans, that will bolt right in too. I'll basically be left with wiring and plumbing of all the various systems (cooling, fuel, power steering, A/C).

    Zj Review

That forum is awful. Put it on thespeedfreaks.net Other than the misinfo on the 5.2 and 5.9 HP and the availabilty of the 5.9 in the year being reviewed they'll love it.

    Zj Review

I loved my ZJ when I had it.... ...but I loved this video more.
  7. Also, think about where the load is applied to the hitch. Mounting the hitch to those other holes on the frame that are further away from where the load is applied is not going to be of much help.
  8. I can answer that question very precisely as I have our annual contract renewal sitting in front of me. It is $1995/year for Premium and $1495/year for Pro. That is just for the subscription service. The $3,500-$5,500 is just for the base software, which you cannot use until you pay for the license.
  9. No free trials with Solidworks. Cheapest non student copy is around $3500. To get the good simulation package you need to pony up $5500. Not worth the money for the hobbyist.

I agree, it's a problem and a very complex one at that. You're never going to be able to change the minds of those who hang on every word of every anti-gun related article and newscast. The general public is lazy and they want someone else to do their thinking for them. Auto accidents have absolutely caused the same kind of stir that we're seeing with anti-gun blowhards - just not on the same level since we're talking local/federal laws versus the Constitution of the United States. Just look at the legislation that has been put into place for vehicle safety. Auto manufacturers have to bend over backwards to meet the safety criteria set in place by NHTSA. Any time there is a fatal accident on a road, the Helen Lovejoy's come out of the woodwork and down come speed limits and up go traffic lights. As long as the media continue to pursue every avenue to find gun-related news stories and blow them out of proportion, the responsible gun-toting Americans are fooked.
  11. Even when separated from the vehicle, I bet it still displays "Coolant Sensor Bad."

But more importantly - the media.

Doesn't matter - that's not how the general public will look at it.

Western Shore MD = Anti-gun Eastern Shore MD = I have two gun stores within walking distance But the fact that a kid from the Eastern Shore drove down to his ex-girlfriend's college, shot and killed her new boyfriend, shot the ex-GF and then shot and killed himself isn't helping the cause. http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2013-09-04/news/bs-md-salisbury-shooting-20130904_1_salisbury-university-campus-vigil-critical-condition
  15. Husky, Hidden Hitch....knew it started with an H.
  16. They both bolt to the rear bumper mounting location on the SIDE of the MJ frame. Apparently there was a hitch company out there (Husky?) that made an MJ-compatible hitch that bolted to the BOTTOM of the frame. If that is true, it would only work on a LWB. Regardless, the side-mount hitches (more common) are universal between LWB and SWB.
  17. I may be willing to part with my 1992 Comanche. 4.0L, AX-15 5-speed, 2WD. I'm in 21658. Let me know if you're interested.
  18. Everyone is going to drop out of this when the manufacturer comes back with a $400/hitch price tag to even make it worthwhile for them do to a small run.
  19. I imagine it has to only fit a longbed. On a shortbed, the leaf springs shackle mount on the rear is basically at the end of the frame - there is not much room to mount anything underneath (see my previous picture).

  21. Interesting. I'm guessing this is for longbeds only?
  22. Not everyone has the tools and resources to do that.
  23. but it's held my 6 bolts, 3 on each side right? Redwolf Yes. You can BARELY see them in the picture here: I candy-caned one of the stock bolts that has to come out to mount the hitch and gave up at that point until the weather was better and I had more time...the weather improved but I never made more time. That looks like an XJ-specific hitch, not an MJ. MJ hitch sideplates mount up to the framerail like so:

  25. Go to Searchtempest.com, make sure you select "any" for the keywords and then use this: comanche commanche commanchee comanchee camanche camanchee cammanche cammanchee Been doing that for years - found a lot of otherwise hidden trucks that way.
