  1. I know there are always exceptions,,,but I though all Metric Tons came with a D44?
  2. Here's my bolt on SOA kit: I got it from Motion Offroad, it fit my D44 perfectly. No complaints. I may add some degree shims later for a better pinion angle. But I've got a NP241J with a factory SYE and a double cardan style drive shaft. Its shorter than a 231 which required a longer driveshaft. Its very smooth on the highway. I've got no vibrations so I may not need more pinion angle. I had an MJ trailer that I planned to use offroad and I put an D35 SOA kit from Rocky Road on it (long ago). It worked just fine, but I did have to re-drill the bolt holes to get them to line up. If you peruse the numerous SOA threads here, you'll find a common issue with shock length. Depending on how you mount your shock brackets, if you decide to keep them, you'll need either much shorter or much longer shocks. I just called Adam at Motion and he hooked me up with the right length shocks to go with the SOA kit. Be careful with the SOA though. It means at least 5"-6" of lift in the rear of the truck. Which means more components will be required for the front. That is, if you want a capable rig you can still drive safely on the road. 6" is sort of the "next level" for the MJ/XJ. Start with this: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=11693 and determine your actual lift height. Then you could get some regular 3-4" SUA lift springs, they are available from Motion or Hell Creek (both are members here). I'm sure Hell Creek could recommend the right pack for you or make a custom set depending on your planned usage. Then you could save a little bit of money by forgoing the SOA conversion and use what you already have up front. If you go with the SOA, it is best to get new U-bolts.
  3. Its possible to "miss the hole" on some speedo cable connectors. Also make sure its screwed all the way in.
  4. Check out the build pages, there's several guys who have done the Renix to HO injection swap. It's a fairly involved undertaking and makes me appreciate that my Renix 4.0 has over 205K and still runs perfect. However, the HO is the better of the two considering power, mileage, and availability of components. Renix stuff is a little tougher to come by, especially at the parts stores. JYs are probably your best bet, just nab as much Renix stuff as you can, when you can if you plan to keep it.

  6. Here's a couple of references for the speedo gear: http://motionoffroad.com/catalog/index. ... x&cPath=14 http://www.quadratec.com/jeep_knowledge ... cle-46.htm http://www.rocky-road.com/calculator.html http://www.jbconversions.com/index2.php?pc=1 As far as the fuel level sender. It sounds like the float is simply stuck in the "Full" position. Have you banged on the tank - (not hard enough to cause a spark though)?
  7. This is already on my 'to do' list: http://www.4x4wire.com/jeep/tech/brakes ... 3/booster/ http://www.jpmagazine.com/techarticles/ ... index.html
  8. Mobil 1 full synthetic only for my baby.... Much better engine protection, but the downside is synthetic is better at finding leaking seals. If your valve cover, oil pan or rear main leaks, fix it, or it will leak worse with full synthetic.
  9. Umm, its on the CNN "Justice" page, go figure. 1984 here we come!
  10. Cool, send me pictures!
  11. I haven't made one yet. But there's no rules. People make instruments out of anything - gas cans, bed pans, cardboard, washtubs, but the wooden cigar boxes seem to be the norm. That Punch box in the picture is actually thin Spanish cedar covered in paper. I've got about 10 boxes so I'll have to pass unless you have some with a nice artistic picture on them, I might be interested.
  12. Sorry, thought the strings and tuners would be too obvious.
  13. Ding, ding, ding! Cigar box guitar, but close enough. I think these things are cooler than a cat! I spent 5 months in a hospital strumming an acoustic six string but didn't make a lot of progress. I stumbled on these and now I'm hooked. I picked up two of them for 45 bucks on CL, and I've been playing them (more like playing with them, I don't actually play well) I've got a bunch cigar boxes, a walnut 2"x2", a 2"x2" of red oak, a bunch of tuners, a couple of piezo transducers, and the magnetic pick up and volume and tone knobs from an old junk electric Japanese guitar and I hope to build several. http://reddogguitars.com/ http://www.youtube.com/user/johnmcnair# ... z5wMGovkuQ http://www.youtube.com/user/johnmcnair# ... qQHoGOMfYg
  14. Yup, its a cigar box. (and they were good) We're getting close.
  15. I'll add more clues if no one guesses correctly...
  16. I like it!
  17. Yep, lots of original Manche's out there still pulling their weight for the working man!
  18. I was going to mention that...there is a water pump that fits but the impeller blades are reversed. Pushes water in the wrong direction. Not sure what engines they came on,,,,old 4.2s I think???? I really don't know though.
  19. I figure, on my trip to GA coming soon, and return to TX, then back to GA, it would pay for itself in hotel rooms. Although I might be a bit stinky. I was an Infantryman for 12 years so I can deal with stinky since there's no shower....unless I got one of those hang up bag showers. Maybe I'll camp at a KOA, they have showers....anyway, I emailed them....still waiting for a reply.
  20. Ouch, I hope to see it again.
  21. Lookin good brother, I love the black interior. I definitely need to do that herculiner on my bed. Keep up the good work!
  22. No matter what it looks like now, soon it will be personalized to be all yours. I like it.
  23. PM me the sell price. In the meantime, may I send a dozen roses to your MJ? :brows:
  24. Nice work,,,,Every Jeeper should memorize the steps to an axle swap and be able to do it blindfolded!
  25. Dangit, I'm broke and look at what you made me go off and start lookin for!!!! 1966 Nimrod Tent Trailer :fs1: http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/rvs/1899947120.html
