  1. smuth, I do have a cheap HID kit with good IPF housings. I never installed them because I did not want to blind oncoming traffic. With HIDs there is no reason to upgrade the harness. The ballast and HID harness do essentially the same thing as the upgraded H4 harness by taking the load out of the headlights switch and drawing power straight from the battery. In doing some more research, I found this XJ retrofit: http://jeep-xj.info/HowtoBiXenonProjectors.htm It's almost identical to the direction I am going.
  2. Did you happen to notice that they forgot to install the radio antenna on the silver JK. Showed a passenger side shot and you could see the antenna base/mount, but no antenna! Me = Nerd 8)
  3. couldn't you just get another HID kit? or are the housings different in some way? Ahh. I see what you are saying. Yes, that would work since I believe most projectors are the same size. However, buying those housing then replacing the projectors would add a lot of expense since you would be buying two sets of projectors. The projectors that in that link are also not HID projectors, but H7 Halogen projectors. I think some lower end Mercedes' use them.
  4. I have not, but that is probably because they are not quite what I am after. Those projectors do not allow you to have high beam headlamps. Thanks for the link!
  5. Wow. I can't wait to watch this come to fruition.
  6. Ain't that the truth. :ack: I hear the Kevlar version is much improved.
  7. It seems option #2 would do you no good with the radiator selection. I would lean to option #1 as well since you like the vents and the hood pins are pretty much required. I would not want to remove the grill every time I wanted under the hood. Would converting to the 87+ hood latches be an option for you?

    Oil Change

Jim, here is another informative oil change how-to. This video may not be safe for work ;) Enjoy and report back. :rotf:
  9. When I was shopping around for insurance, I wanted to find a company that would cover my Jeeps and their accessories. I also asked about getting my MJ covered after I completely rebuilt/upgraded it. Ended up with a company through my bank. I have full coverage and all of my modifications are covered. The MJ will be considered a classic rebuilt. Cost per a Jeep is just a touch more than my wife's Camry.
  10. A few years back I found a good deal on an IPF H4 housing and HID H4 bulb/ballast kit. It seemed like a great deal so I purchased it and it has been sitting in my toolbox ever since. I have not installed it because I do not want to be "that guy" with piss poor HID lighting. Help me build/review a projector retrofit parts list for my Comanche. My goal is simply better lighting than sealed beams/H4 housings without being "that guy". These are the H4 housings I plan to retrofit: The guy I bought the header panel from left them since they were junk (well duh, they are blacked out). I have been doing a lot of reading and understand these are the basic components for an HID projector retrofit: Projector Shroud Bulb Ballast Having done some shopping around I think this is the best kit for me: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/produc ... cts_id=178 Projector: BI-XENON: MORIMOTO MINI D2S 2.0 Shroud: E55-R Bulbs: D2S MORIMOTO 3FIVE (35W) but try and upgrade to the MORIMOTO 5FIVE (50W); 4300K color Ballast: Use the Ballast from the H4 HID upgrade kit I bought a few years back, triggered by factory headlight harness Adapter: To D2S A foreseen issue I am aware of is the Ballasts I have are 50W and the 'kit' comes with 35W bulbs. Thoughts, comments, suggestions? I am all ears. :thwak:
  11. You should make her shine. Attack it with some rubbing compound, polish and then wax it! :brows:
  12. All the music I like has been around for 20 years or more. I have always liked classic rock. Although, I do enjoy country too.
  13. Well done. You have a very nice wheeling rig. Congrats on the CC of the month.... Since it is February, does that make this the truck of 'love'? :rotfl2:
  14. I haven't paid much attention to the weather across the country this winter, but here in Kansas it is much like spring. I can't get over how nice it is! I had to snap a picture of my DD yesterday when I got home. With the highs hovering around 55-60 it been a while since I have had my windows in. This time last year was a totally different story: Image Not Found So is anybody else experiencing a crazy winter?
  15. I feel your pain. :fs2: My 92 has been under the knife for 2 years. So I bought an 86 that needed a little work to get it on the road. I am hopeful I will get to drive it within a month!
  16. The 2x4 was free, scrap metal from an old International Harvester cultivator. YellaHeep's experience and recommendation with ice/snow accumulation on the 2x6 also guided my choice. Now that I have seen the 2x4 in place, I am glad I did not go with 2x6 since the 2x4 is more inconspicuous tucked near the body.
  17. Not at all. 5 more minutes with your preferred metal cutting tool and the front chunk would be gone. All of the XJ guys I have seen do this have taken the box to the wheel well for complete coverage, which makes sense if you are going to be playing in the rocks.
  18. Made a little progress on the rocker replacement: You will notice I opted to maintain a portion of the stock rocker up front hidden behind the front fender). I did this because the truck isn't a hardcore wheeler and it will provide strength to keep the 2x4 box from twisting should it come in contact with something.
  19. Rob, it is a very neat idea. I actually have a kit on my TJ that puts the filter in the cowl and has another filter designed to filter the air coming into the cowl. The only downside is the added intake noise. I will be doing a CWAI (cowl air intake) on the 86. It is all fun and games until you hydrolock your motor in the driveway. Sometime after my install my cowl drain got plugged up. Had a series of heavy down pours one day. I went out the next day to drive away. Turn the key, hear it spin then lock up. Needless to say my intake manifold was full of water as were my cylinders. Cleaned it all out and changed the oil. This is never a good sign: Haven't had any problems since and enjoy the 1-2 mpg increase. Just make sure the cowl drain is free and clear or all debris.
  20. The chocolate mud was a nice touch.
  21. I've got my intake routed into the cowl on my TJ. Even in that location it is very noisy! I don't even want to imagine what it would be like inside the cabin.
  22. Signed as well.
  23. Bo, thank you for taking the time to try and coordinate this. Picking up a new in box hitch would truly be a sweet deal. Do you have some sort of time line you are looking at? I ask because I am currently not in the position to buy more Jeep parts (wife and I are closing on a house within a few weeks). However, if you are looking at approximately a month out, I may be up to it.
  24. Awesome project. I have enjoyed your detailed posts. :D
  25. My buddy needed shop space back to diagnose an airbag air leak on his Dodge, so out comes the MJ: He had to test out the hitch he built for his new 90 Toyota. Battle of the Mini-trucks! When welding the floor patches in we discovered another very weak spot around the 4wd linkage bracket that attaches to the tunnel. Pulled the bracket and 2 of the mounting holes crumbled to nothing. I guess the bracket was holding it all together. :fs2:
