  1. Congrats on getting the ball moving and having a responsive seller. The deal wife and I have been working on since New Years fell through today. The seller simply thought the house he inherited was worth more than we did and the appraisal. Oh well, it was bound to be a 55 year old money pit with ever increasing taxes. Going to put an offer on another home outside of town. Relatively new construction and in the county. This one is more promising anyhow.
  2. Put gas in it and go! I would change all of the fluids: Coolant, Power Steering, Brake, Transmission, Clutch (if manual), Transfercase, Axles and Engine. While changing all of the fluids I would inspect all rubber and plastic lines and replace any that are cracking, leaking or dry rotted. I would then grease anything with a grease fitting: TRE's (at pitman arm, drag link and at knuckles), ball joints and anything else with a fitting (sometimes aftermarket driveshaft, shackles, trackbar, etc) I would also do a basic tune up: Plugs, wires, dizzy, fuel filter, and air filter Lastly, I would remove the throttle body and clean it. Re-install with new gasket. Prepare to do the Ujoints. More than likely they are over 20 years old.
  3. Limestone will also become missiles in the right fire.... Spent a month clearing pasture and stacking the brush on a limestone outcrop/pile to burn. After about an hour of intense fire I could hear what sounded like M80s going off and could hear the whistle of rock fragments buzzing through the air. That fire was then observed from a far distance ;) You might want to consider filling the gaps between the bricks with sand. Small screws and bolts could quickly go missing should they fall between the bricks.
  4. You will have absolutely no problems with Jim.
  5. I won't be going. I do hope to wheel Kansas Rocks sometime soon.
  6. Had another snap of warm winter weather so I primed the new floor and sprayed with under coating: I also mounted the Fey bumper I had bought for the '92 a few years back. Sprayed the rockers as well: I will be installing the buckets and center console from my donor. The stock bench this truck came with is just too worn out, plus it has no head rests :shake:
  7. Not me, but I passed an beat up (dented and rusted) red long bed on the highway today :clapping: Always glad to see another MJ trucking down the road.
  8. I think that guy used to be a crop duster here in KS :ack: Awesome video! Thanks for sharing.

    S14 KOUKI

X2. What makes it significant? Looks like a typical Nissan to me.
  10. Good luck with the contract! I have found that it really doesn't mean much besides that the seller might talk with you. My wife and I are becoming very frustrated with our realtor, the seller and the sellers realtor on the house we have a 'contract' on. We were supposed to close on the 10th since our apartment lease ends on the 29th...and the seller has had none of the repairs done required by the state (septic system) or the lender (termite treatment). We ask for an update every few days and always receive the same 'just hold on and be patient' reply from our realtor and the sellers realtor..... Not to discourage you, just be prepared for major delays and shady people. Congrats and good luck. :)
  11. You have to do A LOT of prep work to make POR15 work. DO NOT apply it over any other painted surface. It will ONLY adhere to treated rust or to cleaned and etched metal. Nothing else. POR15 will work on the frame rails, but they must be 100% clean. Read through my '92 build to see what I mean. My old school body shop guy discouraged me from using any sort of rubberized under coating on the outside of the truck, even OVER a properly applied POR15 treatment. POR15 must be top coated since it is not UV resistant and will fade/turn chalky. Any spray paint would work as a top coat. It is not the under side of the bed that needs treated, it is that shelf formed by the top of the inner wheel well. Not much room to work in there, but if you can clean it and treat it you will be in good shape.
  12. I have found that a well adjusted and functioning drum brake will work better than a Disk Brake. Simple really, the drum brake has a whole lot more pad surface area contact. However, I have always had much more difficulty maintaining a drum set up vs disk. The advantage with disk brakes is much better cooling and (in my opinion) they are much more reliable and don't require near as much maintenance. They stay 'adjusted' and don't fill up with mud/water. I think they are a worth while upgrade.
  13. I run a EPi 9000lb Superwinch on my TJ. It has been a very, very reliable winch and has great line speed. The remote is also very easy to operate with big gloves on. When I went to Joplin to help a fellow Jeeper clean up his property we had to pull his minivan out from under house rubble to the street side. We parked side by side and both latched onto the van. Needless to say, his XRC9000 could not keep up with my Epi9.0. I was out pulling him while latched on to the van and he has no load on the line.... You should browse Pirate4x4.com and read some reviews on the Harbor Freight Badlands winch series. They have been getting some very positive reviews. I was shocked with that coming from Pirate.
  14. Your mom rocks! Those stained glass frames look amazing. I would love to have a stained glass that simply says 'Jeep'.
  15. Not too insane considering a high mileage 4.0 will sell for $200-500 around here. I was able to squeak out $900 on a 4.0 with 18K miles on it a few years back.
  16. Rob, be sure to add some full size stick on wheel weights (what is used for balancing a rim) around the inside of the RC wheels. Virtually eliminates the 'bounce' and really gives it a ton of traction  To anybody else wanting this MJ Body... you will have to find one used or second hand. ProLine has once again discontinued the MJ body.
  17. Truck was dropped off today with the floor and rockers installed. The patch work of repair. I had initially only cut a few pieces out of the donor. Since nothing is ever easy, there was very little solid floor to weld to. I had him leave a small opening into the frame rail so I can treat it with POR15. I am also picking up two 97+ doors this week for the truck.
  18. I like purpose of this build, the reason behind it and the direction you will take it. This will be a fun build to watch. Subscribed! Yes, no adapter needed. The Moab wheels from Rubicons and Unlimited models up to 2005 still used the 5x4.5 bolt pattern. After that, they went to 5x5. Actually, the 2003-2006 Rubicon TJ's have 5x4.5 ;)
  19. Glad to hear you are wanting to stay Jeep! But, if that does not happen I have one word of advice. Stay away from the Ranger. I drive a 2010 model 2wd 4cyl for work everyday, 25k miles a year. It is smaller than the MJ and the cab is very uncomfortable. Nothing is easy to reach and it burns through light bulbs every month. It is beyond slow, runs rough and the auto tranny sucks big time. The heater does work.... I have always liked the Tacoma for a new compact truck but have never taken one for a spin.
  20. You know, I am somewhat inclined to agree with you. Having ridden shotgun in a car with OE HID lights, I will say the cut off took a bit of getting used to. The hardest part for me was getting past the fact I couldn't see UP in the trees along the dark road we were on. I thought about it for awhile and was comfortable with it because I have never had anything or anybody approach my lane from above (not saying it can't happen). The light in front of the car was just about perfect, I could not see the cut off line and few critter eyes I saw had a much brighter glow than I had seen before. It was really the high beams that sold me on the lights. Wow, brighter than day light.

    COTM

Jim, it is still at the top of the stickies.... But don't worry, I won't tell anybody.
  22. I hear you about being frustrated about being left in the dark. We have our closing meeting with the title company set for this Friday, but the seller has a lot of work to do. He must treat for termites and scab one damaged joist (required by the lender), replace the roof (it is uninsurable so required by lender and insurance) and replace the septic system (fail the test performed by the state). The seller inherited the house so he is still making out quite well with the sale. He has know of the issues for 3 weeks but hasnt done a dang thing. His realtor says all is OK and going to be completed..... We will see... Good luck on your hunt.
  23. I was up until last week when I had to pack up my PC in preparation for moving. My laptop from 2004 will not run the game. I should be back in a couple of weeks.
  24. Great view! :brows:
  25. What service are you using to host the pictures? Most online services have a crude editing tool. You should be able to resize them where ever you have them hosted. I use Photobucket. You can set a size for the pictures to upload as. I use something around 400x600, or their medium option. If the pictures have already been uploaded you can simply click 'resize' and pick the size you want.
