I think after a good polish and good clear coat, the primeresque appearance will be diminished. Give it that gloss effect.

Hey, that looks pretty good for a spray bomb job!
-
Sure thing. I will try to snap a few pictures this weekend when I head out to work on her.

Newbie, did you put thead sealer on the t-stat bolt threads? Also, sounds like you need to invest in a torque wrench. IIRC the t-stat housing bolts are rated at 156 in.lbs (NOT FT LBS!). Eliminates all guess work when assembling delicate parts. I love the spring clamps. If you ditch them, I will pay for postage to send them my way. I have the spring clamp pliers and will never go back to the inefficient screw style hose clamps.

Never been a huge fan of the 10 or 21 slot grills. I do like chrome grills on the XJ/MJ. But they need the matching bezels :D

Need help pulling engine
87Warrior replied to frostypaws12's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I posted a similar question about a month ago or so. Pull it as one piece. Unbolt the motor mounts from the frame and be sure to get ALL of the t-case linkage disconnected (if a 4wd) truck. Use an engine leveler (load leveler) on the hoist and it should be a quick job. I left all bracketry and manifolds on the block. Bolted the chains to the two left side head studs, using additional nuts/washers and used an AC compressor bolt hole. -
...XJ's water pump :fool: Made the 2 hour drive home and 9 miles from the house I hear a thud, then noticed I lost power steering followed by a temp gauge on the rise. Pulled over to steam pouring out of the grill. Pop the hood and notice a shredded fan belt with antifreeze spraying from behind the water pump pulley. For what ever reason, the water pump bearing gave way, twisting the pulley into the pump causing it to lock up and shred the belt. Replaced the pump today with a NEW unit and flushed the radiator. The job was surprisingly simple and easy.

Hey, your truck sounds like mine. So I am tearing it down to the shell and rebuilding (see my build thread). Most of the issues you posted are an easy fix that are fairly cheap to correct. These things can nickel and dime you if the PO(s) did not maintain it. I won't try to steer you either way, but I love my Jeep(s).

Last year my TJ decided to roll down a CO mountain trail by its self. My pasenger and I jumped out, facing down hill to take a picture/spot the jeep coming from behind. It was in neutral with the parking brake applied. I open the back tailgate and shut. Upon shutting it starts to roll down the trail, drop off to the right and a steep uphill grade to the left. I sprinted beside the Jeep and realized I left my driver window down, so I grabbed the wheel and pulled, turning the front wheels uphill stopping the forward roll. Somehow the parking brake dropped a few clicks allowing enough pressure release to set her in motion. I don't think I have ever moved so fast.

Did you chip into the bed of the MJ? I can't really tell from the pics.

My guess is that was a salvage auction rig. Looking good.

Thanks for the link. I generally ignore all celebrity news so I was real confused when the radio DJ played a few one liners from Mel in the morning. I live under a rock apparently.

Ahhh! A turd gen! I've never really liked 'em. God luck with the build. Is it true that the 3rd gen floor pans rot away just like the MJs?

Holy nice score. I thought the rolled 99 donor I bought was a deal @ $900. Raced 2 others to get to the location in rural MO. Luckily one guy from NE had a trailer brake lock up and the other showed up as I was strapping it on the dolly. Is that the dark Forrest green or the, what is it, beryl green? Stuff like that only sits on CL for a week at most around here. High priced or not.

Good luck to you man. A friend of the family bought one of those. It looked like new at 65K but did not run and had a mess of aftermarket parts under it. I helped him replace a few seals and the turbo. Got it to run, poorly, then the transmission went along with the front end chassis parts. He sold it and bought a Neon... Hey, at least the neon still runs. I would sell ASAP and get an ecconomy car.

Very. Very, Wrong. :rotf:

I bought my rubi blind. It was at an insurance salvage auction in MI, I was in KS. All I knew about it wa that it had 12K miles, had flood damage and was silver... Best investment I ever made. It has been modified quite abit but still pulls DD duties. As long as you don't pay too much, it is hard to go wrong buying a Jeep blind.

Bought another Comanche... Fix or Recover Parts and Scrap?
87Warrior replied to comanche09's topic in The Pub
Seems like it could be out on the road with XJ parts. I say rebuild... Granted you get a title or have the ability to file for one. -
I have followed his build from start to finish. Absolutely beautiful in every detail.

I was looking for a new daily driver, again... During the fall semester of my last year of graduate school, I decided to retire the Rubicon from DD duties and buy something that got good mpg's and was fun. I bought a 97 Miata. After a few months I realized the car was not practical by any means and started searching for another DD. I choose MJ because: its a jeep, unique and stylish (some may say my sense of style is out of date), a truck would be nice, and XJs get decent mpg. Plus I always thought the 'Jeep Truck' was cool. I joined CC and was in love. Found a 92 some 6 hours away. Drove there, bought, rented uhaul trailer, and drove home. I bought it for a DD. Yet, 2 years later I am still DDing the Rubicon and the MJ is down to the shell. But, I am building it to be my DD so it should serve its intended purpose...eventually.

DONE.... Haha, they are NEVER done.

Specs : 93, 4.0, 120K, AW4, completely stock with exception of dealer installed AC (in 94) and a CD player. The Jeep has stalled out before, but it would usually take another 6 months to a year for it to happen again. Today it died 3 times in 5 minutes coming home from the grocery store. What happens: randomly, when at idle it feels like it starts missing slightly. This can usually be cleared up by tapping the throttle a few times. When it stalls out/dies, it starts out by the slight miss when the throttle is pressed then dies. All power accessories still work. Sometimes s few quick blips of the throttle and it will come back. Other times, put it in park and it will fire up. It is not holding any codes as I only get the "55" all done flash when pulling. My gut is telling me TPS because the issues seem to start and end with throttle positions. I don't have much experience diagnosing these types of issues so I am calling for your help. Thanks

July 3, 2010 First I used a spot weld driller to remove the 3 brackets from the firewall. Then I started testing out how the XJ dash will fit. Need to get the top of it mounted securely. I was surprised how little effort this took. Just needed a couple new holes drilled and she was up and in place. Dash to windsheild clearance. Slowly but surely!

I thought the area looked familiar. I know tuttle better than the back of my own hand since I spent every weekend up there when at k-state.
